Sure, you could do a custom spell if I approve it. What do you have in mind?

A spell that lets me say just a couple of words, but convey a whole lot more meaning than is just present in those words - as if I'd spoken for several paragraphs.
Erika asks,
"Have you traveled far to be here today?"
My character thinks for a second and replies,
"Yes."
... and despite only speaking that single word, Erika (and the rest of the party if they're listening) is able to understand a whole lot about what happened in his journey to get there as if he had spent a couple of minutes telling the story.

Sounds sort of like a reverse "Detect Thoughts"...maybe a reverse "Legend Lore"...

Obviously since it would be only for RP I wouldn't want that to use up one of my high level spell slots. Another possibility would be that one of my magic items is something that lets me do that.

Oh hell no!
Legend Lore is lvl 4, I think, but it assumes you have relatively know idea what it is you are using the spell on. Since your character would know all of his own shit, it shouldn't be more than a 2nd lvl spell IMHO.

From the PbP standpoint, you would still have to type out everything you wished to have conveyed so the other character (and I) knew the entirety of the message. Right?
I am fine with the custom spell as a concept. Are you thinking of it as a distance-communication spell or entirely verbal, or both?

I'm thinking of it as purely being able to type:
Quote
"Yes."
As I speak the word, you become aware that I have traveled here from the land of (xyz) where I grew up. I left at the age of (x) and wandered through many lands, learning many things. My journey has been fraught with peril, but I eventually found a home in (y). However, today in particular, I have not traveled anywhere except going out hunting.
Rather than:
Quote

My journey has been fraught with peril, but I eventually found a home in (y). However, today in particular, I have not traveled anywhere except going out hunting."
The more I think about it the more I think it might work better as a magic item that simply allows me to communicate that way a certain number of times per day, rather than a spell that has to compete with other spells in my slots?

If you prefer it to be a magic item, that is fine. If you want it to be a spell, also fine. Your choice.

You're welcome. I am a fair and generous DM (who will still kill your new PC at the first opportunity).

Would Sab's new spell work both ways? It would do a great deal in making the explanations of everything make more sense as far as RP goes.

Nope. Gotta do it the hard way.

You mean,
Bed, sharing an ale with the newcomer, tells him everything about what has transpired since he came to West Wellington.
Does that work?
