"Thank you, my friends. Even this small bit of coin will help me."

"I would like to give you whatever you wish to thank you for your help. But I may yet decide to leave this place if I find I am no longer wanted."

"Though I believe I have the right to live where I wish, I am not certain it is worth the daily burden of fear and hatred to merely stand on a principle no one will fight for."

"But you have given me hope and options to ponder. I am grateful for that."

"But the day grows long and you have an exciting afternoon ahead of you. I will make the use of that time to work on my gifts for you."

"I wish you well in the arena and look forward to hearing of your victories. Thank you all and I hope you have the brightest of days."

"Oh, of course, Liv. Would you prefer a shortbow, as they are the most affordable?"

"I would sell you a shortbow and 20 arrows for 30 Courtly."

"Drade, I am curious. I love the bayonet attachment on my crossbow. Is there any way to affix a small blade to the grip or riser of a shortbow for my friends?"

"Hmm, sure, that could be done easily enough. But I do not have such a thing made. I could work on one for later if you like?"

"That sounds lovely Drave, thank you. You don't have any in pink, do you?"

Drade laughs out loud. The sheer pressure of air being forced out of his lungs shakes the glass on the ammunition rack.

*HAHAHA-HAAA!!*  "No, my dear. I am afraid I ran out of pink just this morning."

"Next time I have prestidigitation I'll pinken it for you, Liv. I think it'd change back at the end of the hour, though. Right, Faer?"

{who said Liv wasn't Kaylee?}

While looking at Drade I smile and say, "It's good to actually see you again, Drade."

"In most cases, yes, the color will change back an hour after application."

You have enjoyed Drade's company. Your fears for him have been alleviated only slightly, as you know his troubles are far from over. But you have assured yourselves that he is at least safe for the time being.

He is in much better spirits after seeing you. It makes you realize that the true qualities of a hero come from improving people's lives by your own efforts. Though this is often done with steel or spell or smashing fist, looking at Drade you understand such things can just as easily come from a show of kindness.

Drade begins meticulously removing his shirt, preparing himself to return to the forge, his first love. He says it is time to get to work.

He bids you all the best of luck in the events and asks that you return tomorrow morning. He hopes to have something ready for you but, more so, would be happy to have your company once again.

Gathering your newly acquired items, you step out into the market square. You are shaken by how barren it is now as compared to this time yesterday. The entire city, it seems, has made their way to the arena.

As you pass by the Oak Haven Inn, you see even Abigail has closed for the time being. Only the City Guard are seen about, vigilantly on patrol lest any evil-doer should try to take advantage of the emptied streets and buildings to make good on some scheme.

The sound of the crowd at the amphitheater is all you can hear as you get closer. Every seat is packed, with throngs milling about outside, hoping to see the competition.

You try to get a glimpse of the ring divisions or the challengers within, but the crowd is so thick it is all you can do to make your way inside. You keep a hand close on your coin purse and stay aware of the weight of your gear, making sure deft hands do not relieve you of your hard-earned possessions.

You see the three young-teen street urchins from the market square. The chubby boy and his shaggy-haired friend are attempting to sneak past the Guard at the gate, plying their daily skills at such things.

You see their female accomplice with the curly red hair run by the Guard and bump an obese older woman just hard enough to get the Guard's attention. By the time he turns to her then back to the boys, all three have disappeared into the crowd.

Approaching the Guard, he holds up a hand to you. He points to a direction sign that separates contestants from spectators.

After making your intentions known, and with a quick comparison of your Traveling Papers to the Lists, we waves you through toward the competition staging area.

Your hearts take a jump and your breathing quickens. The anticipation of competition, fame, and reward swim in your minds as you pass the iron barricades and walk into the arena.

This is the most exciting event West Wellington has ever witnessed. And you are about to be a part of it.
