The warmth coming from the sunlit windows, combined with the very comfortable bed and full stomachs, helps you nod off. You rest, drifting lightly through a half-dream of sound and color.

All of you awake feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world. Looking out the window, you take it to be just at later afternoon, still more than enough time to indulge any intentions you may have for the day.

I'm sitting on my bead braiding my hear. I ask my fellow guests, "Would you two like to walk to the new library and check it out now then maybe head over to the festival?"

{It appears that the three of you are heading downstairs then. Please let me know in-game here if you have left any items in the room.}

Securing any items you wish to leave in the lock box under your beds, you take your leave of the room. You check the door behind you to make sure it is locked then make your way down the spiral staircase.

Though Bedlor has much experience in navigating steep inclines and narrow steps, Faerun and Liv watch themselves carefully. The day is young and a 30 foot plummet to the oaken floor below does not at all sound like a way to finish it.

As you disembark from the staircase you see the room is no less full but has quieted considerably. Apparently, the long lunches and full tankards have resulted in many relaxed patrons, content to linger and discuss their thoughts at leisure.

Abby is still at the bar, as she always seem to be. She smiles at you with professional acknowledgement as Heather comes from behind the curtain to the kitchen. She sees you immediately, Bedlor, and her semi-wholesome smile falls upon you.

"Well, hello again, honey. I guess you got squared away upstairs. All comfy up there?"

"Matthew said you were the kindest people he'd ever met. It's sure been hard on his since Pa passed on. Haven't seen him smile this much since. Won't stop talking about how he's gonna buy so much taffy he's gonna get sick."

"Where ya headin' to, sugar?"

"Honestly, ma'am, I could go for a few more rounds o' ale at a bar with such a purty view, *wink*, but these two bookworms aim to once over the tomehouse across the way. But I'm sure'n to be back after 'while. What's a girly like ye doin' for the festival? Sure'n ye not to tend bar during the whole time?"

She smiles appreciatively at you and tosses her hair.

"Sometimes it seems like all I do is work. Lots of folks always comin' and a goin'. But Abby needs the help and I'm setting aside my coins to make a better life for me and Matthew."

"But...since you asked...I wouldn't mind seeing a few sights at the Festival myself. I was going to go later if I got a chance but, if you're offering your company, it would sure make me smile if you dropped back by when you were free."

"Seeya later, good sir." She leans forward and gives you a little hug. You enjoy the brush of her hair on your face and the height differential.

Liv clears her throat and starts for the door. The three of you part ways with the cozy inn and its staff and step out into the welcoming sunlight outside.

The colorful sights and festive sounds greet you like a friend. You look about to see where one should go first.

The juggling entertainer in the bright orange and yellow clothes has found new objects after being "relieved" of his former apples by the street urchins. Now he juggles a red ball, a cabbage, and a squash. His skill seems good, being able to maintain control of such disparate objects.

The sounds of music can be heard from lutes and fifers as traveling bards and aspiring performers attempt to gain both recognition and coin from the delight of their audiences. There is no end of vendors with booths with every craft and produce imaginable.

All seem attractive and entertaining. You have not forgotten about the contest of skills listed for tomorrow either. Thinking it may be held at the arena below your bedroom window, you find Liv's offer to walk to the library an acceptable one.

As the three of you step from the shade of the door of the Oak Haven Inn, Faerun and Bedlor notice something that catches their keen senses:

Across the bustling main street, you see the three men who'd exited Drade's armory as you were entering the establishment. They are leaning against the wall of the tanner's shop, arms folded across their chest, loitering.

Scarcely giving it a thought, you presume they had gone across the way to perhaps see about acquiring leather armor from a merchant a bit less intimidating than the minotaur.

In truth, it may have occurred to you to seek your items elsewhere as well had it not been for your need of solid steel and for your innate courage. You are about to pass your glance over them without a second thought when you notice something amiss.

You notice that all three of them are standing against the wall, their eyes firmly fixed past you on the area near Berl's General Mercantile. More intriguing than their unanimous interest, however, is that all three of them are now wearing shiny new splint mail and are armed with longswords and crossbows.

As Liv looks to the library to the east, all heads are briefly turned.

It is then that you hear the screams.

{...I may be new to playing DnD, but those screams in a city could be coming from any sort of direction.}
Listen check to hear where it is coming from. (Move Action) (1d20+3=17)
{Which direction are the screams coming from? This question is important. For all we know we could be moving into an alley behind the inn, or the somewhere across the street.}
