This is the official thread for the Shadow War campaign, out-of-character discussion.

Let's start with character creation. You will need the version 3.5 Player's Handbook. We will use the dice roller on invisiblecastle.

If you go to http://invisiblecastle.com/ you can use the Roll Dice option to generate your stats by the "Roll 4d6, reroll 1's, take highest 3" method I am using. Enter "6" in the "Number of Rolls" field and "4d6.minroll(2)" in the "Dice" field.

If you register and use your forum screen name (for now) for the roll then I can confirm it. The campaign name will be "Shadow War".

You are not required to use the online dice roller. As I'd mentioned in the previous thread, I am going to trust the players with their die rolls.

It's a game. Don't cheat. I'll give ppl the benefit of the doubt on that.

I don't have info for the air gnome race. E-mail me the info and I'll look at it.

Despite how you plan on being in character, the more you reveal about your character here the more people know about your character. Sure, players shouldn't metagame but it's hard to avoid. Your stats are between you and me.

I haven't heard back from Aubreii. Hopefully he's able to get the PHB info somewhere.

Yep, I have it. Thanks.

If anyone has their character sheet rolled up, please e-mail it to me.

If anyone, including new players, is having difficulty getting started, please let me know.

I have talked to sab39 but he hasn't had a chance to read over the PHB yet (or may not have it). Gaumer is deciding what to play. Webmetz is in-touch. No word on Aubreii?

I would like to play, Navarre. Can I use the character sheet that you previously emailed me?

Sure, you're welcome to play. You may use whatever character sheet you want.

I think 5 is enough for an online game though so I'll cap it here.  I need definite confirmation from sab39 and Aubreii that they are playing though.

Illumian (correct spelling) is a male deity in a monotheistic religion.

If you have ranks in Knowledge Religion I can provide you with some info. Otherwise, you may not know such things any more than the average person knows every tenant of being a priest.

You do know that Illumian is the God of Light. His clerics can be readily found throughout the northern human lands but not among the non-human races and (so-called) savages.Of course, like many religions, anyone who doesn't follow the god's precepts are thought of as savages.

You do know that Illumian's clerics have strong ties with the monarcy. This seems to be largely political as opposed to devout faith but, between the two, they have a strong hold on everything.

Lawful obedience seems to be the primary focus of the church. So it may be a good guess that Law would be a domain. But if you don't have the ranks then I guess you might ask a priest.  ;-)

No, you do not need to pay service to a deity. However, all characters are required to reveal their identity publicly and register, as per the Player Character Registration Act.  Cheesy

To answer questions about deities, items, etc:

The deity question has, I believe, been answered above. In the settled human lands there is one recognized religion: that of Illumian, God of Light.

There are other relgions but no one speaks openly of them. But there are some who do not follow the strict Lawful tenants of Illumian. These people no doubt have their own means of recognizing and communicating with each other. But they make every attempt to remain hidden when doing so.

It is not illegal to worship another god. It is just frowned upon. Perhaps you might draw more attention to yourself than you desire.

As far as pre-game items, just roll up the starting gold for your class (PHB, p. 111). You have a Traveler's Outfit and 3 days of rations left.

This does not come out of your starting gold. But it would be a good idea to find a town soon and get food, rest, and whatever steed/armor/weapons/supplies you desire.

I could start all of you equipped but I see no reason to rush the game. About half our players have never played before and this is the only venue. So we'll take it as it comes.

Aubreii tells me he's still in. Has a PHB now afaik.

Chrysalis is supposed to roll up her character tomorrow.

sab39 may not have a book until next week. But Aubreii would still need to get his character and some basics down and we can build as we go.

The time grows a little closer...

No, my mistake. I meant to say you have the traveler's outfit and the 3 days of rations in addition to the starting package items for your class (under class description). If there is more than one starting package, take the one most appropriate. The amount of rations you have (3 days) are in addition to the amount listed in the starting package.

Does that include the weapons, armor, and gold.

I assume you mean we start with everything in the gear section of one of the starting packages, with the exception of the leftover gold. then we would buy extra stuff like weapons, armor, and such in town.

Gah, I am torn between having high scores in a few class skills or having at least 1 pt in each skill that needs training to use, or I could wait til level 8 and take Jack of All Trades (which allows use of any skill as if you were trained in it).
...gah decisions...there are so many class skills which are so useful.

Here's an idea. You get your starting gold and then go buy what you want.

A person with a full kit, armor, weapons, and hundreds of gold pieces is already far wealthier than most anyone they're likely to meet in town. Most peasants couldn't afford a pony much less all that stuff.

You have your starting gold, traveler's outfit, and 3 days rations. I'm going to start you in a town so you'll have plenty of opportunity to buy things.

As for why you don't have more, well, who says you should? You have traveled a long way and any number of things could have happened. You've managed to survive because you're hardy people, just like any other traveler.
