Finished the last book in the Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins about a week ago and just finished reading "Paper Towns" by John Green the other night. Quite good books all around, I must say.

I just came across a board game based on the hunger games and it really piqued my interest. Can you liken it to another series or give a quick description?

Sure thing:
The story takes place at a point in the distant future when our form of government has collapsed and a new dictatorship called the capitol has risen to power and has split North America into 12 fenced off districts. The titular Hunger Games can sort of be seen as the Gladiator games, but with kids all under the age of 18 entered. These games require the citizens of each district to bring forth one boy and one girl to participate and battle to the death in the arena.
The thing that makes the series stand out (for me at least) is the protagonist, Katniss Everdeen (spoiler alert: she participates in the Games). The survivalist heroine with a caring and sentimental core isn't anything terribly original, but the way that the author manages to paint such a convincing portrait of both the setting and Katniss is what makes the book so worth reading.
Everything that happens in the book feels so real and well paced that it's easy to forget your reading text and you just experience what goes on in the story for yourself (if that makes any sense). Highly recommended.

My dissertationis on constructions of the hero in the writings of the napoleonic era. Basically Sharpe if you've heard of the series. So i'm looking mainly at theory based on this premise. Unfortunately noone seems to have written it from the british point of view before and much of teh criticism is based on US writing and movie.s

I'm re-reading "Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi: Outcast" since I picked up the third book and I wanted to brush up on what happened before and last read the book in early/mid summer.
Once I finish those, I plan to re-read the "Lord of the Rings" novels, which is sort of a habit of mine to do around Christmas time every year.
