By crossover, I don't mean Deadpool/Spiderman or Avengers/X-men.  No I mean crossovers like JLA/Avengers or Judge Dredd/Batman.  Some people like these kind of crossovers where universes cross over or merge.  Overs DON'T.
Here are some of my favorites:

Judge Dredd/Batman.
There has been a few of these printed.  Thenones I have read are good stories, but like many crossover stories a couple of them start out like they have never met each other.  The fights between Dredd and Batman are great.  When Batman is arrested by the street judges and is interviewed by Dredd where Judge Death was.  Batman breaks the bonds and punches Dredd square in the face.  You also have the fight where Dredd is keeping Batman busy so he doesn't try to save some kids in a play, getting killed in the blast (Batman, Die, NEVER)

Batman/Captain America
Set in the past Captain America was sent to protect Bruce Wayne (I think?) but basically after a small fight between Bruce and Steve they work out who their are really fighting.  This comic also has Bucky and Robin, who get switched.  Joker joins forces with the Red Skull, well until he finds out Herr Skull is a Nazi.  It ends with the death of the Red Skull and the Joker, unless they are immune to nuclear blasts.

Superman Vs Terminator

Sarah and John Conner are on the run from the time travelling machines and are saved by the big S man.  However this time the Terminators have help from the Cyborg (part Superman, part Robot. Don't know his name Huh).  This is one of those crossovers where the universes are merged together as Superman is sent into the future where all the heroes died in the first week of Skynets attack.

Spiderman/Batman
These two comics are great.  The first issue is Carnage breaking Joker out of Arkham, but he is too late as the joker has been cured.  That is until Carnage snaps him out of it, then it's Carnage who is the sane one in the team.  Spiderman and Batman eventually join forces and defeat the pair.  It has been a while since I read it so I will have to dig it out again.  The second one has the Kingpin teaming up with Raul AL Gaul (May have spelt it wrong.)  When I say team up, the Kingpin was blackmailed into joining R.A.G.  Batman and Spiderman are trying to stop them and Bruce gets some info from Tallia.  While Spiderman is secretly getting info from the Kingpin (the enemy of my enemy is my friend.) That plus Fisk knows you can't be a Kingpin if everyone dies.

Batman/Predator

A great comic where even though Batman is completely out classed he still goes in ready for a fight.  He also uses the Bat-Armour.  Darker than most of the crossovers I have read.  Predators also pop up it a Superman crossover.  But then you have a Batman/Superman Vs Aliens/Predators.

DC Vs Marvel

I only have part of this Saga but the best part for me was where everyone was merged together.  Batman/Wolverine (should have been Moon Knight) Captain America/Superman, Dark Seid/Thanos.  The crossover I prefer is JLA/Avengers as I feel it had more of a story behind it.  The final battle is also more dramatic with the Vision giving up all his stored solar energy to save Superman.

Well thats a few crossovers, just to get the topic up and running.
So what do you think about crossovers and which ones have you read?

I love a good crossover, and despite the inherent flaw in the "vote for which hero you like" premise of DC vs. Marvel I really enjoyed it. I own not just the entire run, but all of the Access series that it spawned.

JLA/Avengers had a wonderful section where the heroes pointedly fought over the differences in their universes as a function of the role the home town heroes performed. Cap was aghast at the seemingly tyrannical way that the JLA enforced order and seemed to negate the free will of the people. Clark berated Cap for the fact that the Avengers didn't do more to force order on the Marvel U, allowing it to be the (as he saw it) dark world that it was. This is especially poignant in light of the complaints from Earth-2 Superman during Infinite Crisis about how 'dark' the DCU had become.

If you can get past the formula that seems to run rampant through the cross-company crossover (Heroes meet, they fight, they realize that they are both good guys and go after the real villains), you can enjoy the idea of worlds colliding in a cool way.

I'm not generally a big fan of these types of cross-license crossovers but I did enjoy the Reid Fleming: World's Toughest Milkman/Flaming Carrot crossover from several years ago, just for the sheer weirdness of the thing.

I wont say I do or don't love a good cross over, but the only one I have read personally is Spiderman / Superman.  I own it in the gigantic edition that was printed in the .......... 70's (or 80's, I'm not sure, it was my dad's).  I enjoyed it, but the stand out thing was that Superman almost killing Spiderman with the air in front of his punch.

If they're done properly they can be lots of fun, but sometimes they really strain the suspension of disbelief, kind of like DC V. Mortal Kombat

You know, I always thought that DC matched better with Street Fighter or King of Fighters and MK matches better with Marvel.

Unfortunately, the MK franchise is property of the Warner Interactive and I think that a sequel was expected.

Here my 10 cents:
Most cross overs fall into the category of two sets of heroes from different universes meet, there's a misunderstanding, they fight, then they team up to overcome the villains of the piece normally trading each others villains. This kind of thing can get boring pretty quickly and so I have no real interest in them. If they are done well, they're worth a read - normally it's down to if I like to two properties

Aliens Vs Predator setting the ball rolling for me. No miss understanding here. The Predators harvest aliens to hunt, a human settlement gets caught up in the cross fire - 'nuff said!

The First Dredd Vs Batman which is awesome, it follows the typical team up template but the art and attitude make it for me.

Planetary cross over was good.

I bought into the whole DC Vs Marvel but was disappointed when Wolverine beat Lobo, A result that Peter David (the co-writer of the series) disagrees with but hey that's the popularity vote for you.

Batman vs Predator I, II and III are worth a read.

Superman Vs Aliens
is really good. I find Superman stories are the best when he's actually in peril, in this Lexcorp intercepts an alien spaceship that has crash landed in the ocean broadcasting a Kryptonese signal , this leads Kal-EL to outer space and away from our yellow sun to a floating city, a possible remnant of Krypton. You can guess by the title of the book who Superman encounters.

I liked the game DC Vs Mortal Kombat and when I finally own a PS3, I'll get this - I haven't paid attention to the story though.
I'm interesting in reading Trek Vs X-men as it sounds like a car wreck.

My nominees for worst cross overs are as follows:

 Aliens Vs Predator Vs Terminator
Aliens Vs Predator Vs Batman and Superman
Batman and Superman Vs Werewolves and vampires

I like reading anything that is good, but it sucks that many of these sorts of crossovers were not.

I love the idea though. Taking two totally different things that are cool in their own awesome ways and putting them together is just freakin cool. But that almost never equates to actually being a good read.

Well, I enjoyed JLA vs Avengers.  And while it wasn't that good. I also enjoyed Marvel vs DC... except for the Amalgam stuff and the whole voting crud.
