Major Spoilers, I bring forward to you a question.  I recently caught the last 20 minutes of (at least I think it’s still called) WWE Raw.  I remember watching WWE / WWF back when I was in Junior High, and enjoyed it immensely.  I don’t even know the names of the wrestlers in the main event, but the “fight” was interesting.  So what I pose to Major Spoilers is, is WWE worth watching?
The reason I stopped was because it was shortly after the merge with WCW and they split up Smack Down and Raw.  I didn’t care for that, but was wondering if it was worth getting back into.  I mean I always liked faux wrestling (i.e. pro wrestling) and have even read Mr. Foley’s book before.

Well...there is this thread, started by yours-truly:

http://www.majorspoilers.com/smf/index.php/topic,1076.0.html

I haven't watched the WWE in the last few weeks but it's sometimes enjoyable. I think it has lost its glory of yesteryear.

It doesn't waste our intelligence with farce like Papa Shango or Doinks the Clown. But instead it wastes our intelligence with farce like lame guest hosts and the same tired feuds.

Generally speaking, Smackdown will be a much better viewing experience for you than Raw. While Raw is 80% antics and 20% wrestling, Smackdown tends to be the reverse.

Wrestlers worth your time are Chris Jericho (who has all the necessary skills to be the  superstar that he is) and John Morrison (who needs to work on his mic skills but is one of the most athletically gifted wrestlers I've ever seen).

it's not worth getting back into, but it might be worth having on while you're doing other things.

I agree that it takes a lot of mental fortitude to sit and stare at the show like it's worth two-hours of undivided focus. You could watch highlights of any given show and keep up with most everything.

But if you enjoy the matches and the physicality there are sometimes wrestlers worth watching. This brings me back to my Chris Jericho/John Morrison statement.

Kelly Kelly and Melina are worth watching on screen, though not usually because of wrestling talent. But I suggest turning down the volume any time Melina wrestles.

I may wish to add that my favorite wrestlers of ye old'n time were Kane and HBK.

But Kane seems like a lumbering lug, not the ominous presence he once invoked when he was against his "brother", The Undertaker.

HBK is one of my favorite wrestlers ever. But the poor guy is way past his prime and jobs far too often to other wrestlers when he's not acting juvenile or hocking DX merchandise.

But, hey, check it out for yourself. That's the only way you'll ever know what you really think.

Shawn Michaels had an absolutely phenomenal match with Undertaker last wrestlemania. During the Jeff Hardy CM Punk feud a few months ago Smackdown had a pretty long string of great matches too.

I think WWE is at its best when it actually features great matches of gimmicks. Like having a PPV for EVERY FREAKING TYPE OF MATCH EVER. And no blood...

Yes, the HBK/Undertaker match was indeed phenomenal. But they usually waste HBK on Raw. I still think he has that inherent something that makes HBK great and they should use it.

Smackdown has had some great matches. That Rey Mysterio vs John Morrison match where Morrison won the IC Title was one of the best matches in years. It was a phenomenal match of unparalleled athleticism without any interference or gimmicks.

Great stuff.
