I was sad to see Torpedo die too. It was so undignified. No grand scenario, just that sudden death to strike at ROM.

There was a lot of brutality and sorrow in ROM if you think about it. All those Spaceknights, ROM's humanity, Brock, Brandy...It bordered on a horror comic sometimes.

I also have the Defender For A Day issue though. Funny stuff, that.

heh heh Heroes sitting around on the roof. Poor Nighthawk.

I don't have to think about it at all, you're 100% right. ROM was downright dark sometimes. I loved the book to death, but I actually creeped me out sometimes. Even the X-Men crossover with Hybrid was a creepy story. People chuckle at it nowdays because it was based on a toy, but the writers really strove to make involving stories.

Poor Nighthawk? Heh. back in those days, one of the character traits that made me like Nighthawk so much was how easy he was to piss off. Boy, did all those wannabe defenders piss him off.

ha Yeah, Nighthawk wasn't long on patience, was he?

It would be interesting to catch back up with the remaining characters from ROM's title and see what is happening with them.

Is there anybody left from ROM?
ROM made an appearance at Rick Jone's wedding.
I'm not sure where the Spaceknights mini fits in continuity.
I know the Spaceknights were involved in the Annihilation War, but I have no idea what happened after the Phalanx took over.
Time to start writing letters to Abnett and Lanning.

You do know you can name living characters that were just "benched", right?

  • WindDancer (Marvel 616) : I really liked her in the New Mutants/New X-Men book. Then she was de-powered and shoved into the New Warriors book. I want her re-powered and back in the X-books.
  • Ricochet a.k.a. Jonny Gallo (Marvel ) : Another character I liked that was unceremoniously shoved into a b-title.  I would have preferred he went to the Initiative.
  • Holly Granger (DC) : As a fan of the old "Hawk & Dove" comic, I was really happy to see Holly become the new Hawk to Dawn's Dove. I was even happier to see her in Titans East. After I read the title I was disappointed. I was even more disappointed to see her become cannon fodder in Blackest Night. What a waste.
  • Cyclops (Marvel Ult.) : He survives everything only to get shot in the head by Quicksilver. Nice one, Loeb.
  • Swordsman (Marvel 616) : I really want to see a new Swordsman show up in Marvel. I've always liked the concept and design for the character.

I'd like to see more Ricochet. When Slingers started, I thought Dusk would be my favorite, but Ricochet really grew on me.

Dusk has a lot more story potential in her too. If I remember the Spider-Man: Identity Crisis storyline correctly, the original Dusk was a freedom fighter in the Negative Zone.

Slingers, I vaguely remember that. What ever happened to those guys?

Prodigy got some spotlight in Initiative, or so I heard. Hornet cameo'ed in Civil War (in a most illogical manner). Dunno if Ricochet has turned up.

I never liked Ricochet because he felt too much like Spider-Man lite. Hornet had the most potential, in my estimation, especially if Hank Pym took him under his wing. Dusk also has tons of story possibilities thanks to the Negative Zone connection; she's begging to be brought back in a big way.

Prodigy was put in charge of one initiative team by Norman Osborn, but is now in trouble as he let the New Warriors go and just stood there waiting for the response.  He said that he can not run.  He also played a part in the secret war.

Marrow: I have only heard bad things about her from other readers but I really liked her before she got control of her powers. That just made her annoying. I also liked her in weapon X series which I was the last I saw of her.

I'll second Marrow. But her downfall is symptomatic of the problem that the X-franchise has with new characters. For example, can anybody tell me what happened with Wolverine's new jail-bait sidekick, Armor? We've seen next to nothing of her after Astonishing ended.

I'll give Marrow another vote.

Last time I saw her she was in X-Factor as a member of X-Cell until she learned the truth about M-Day.

I would like to see the following bacl.

1) Maggot from the X-Men.  Interesting character with an unusual power that never had the chance to develop.

2) Vibe Paco Ramone from the Detroit Era Justice League.  He was killed right when he figured out what a hero was.

3) Chemical King with his short tenure in the Legion, I enjoyed his stories.

4) Lariss Mallor It isn't just anybody who can handle Vril Dox.  She was the only voice of reason the L.E.G.I.O.N. Series ever had.

5) Loomis from the 5  year gap Legion.  One of my favorite supporting characters of all time.  He is the shell schocked crazy uncle that is great at getting you out of a jam and driving you crazy all at the same time.

Honorable mention Batman Bruce Wayne & Captain America Steve Rogers.  Will they ever bring them back?
