The topic title speaks for itself.

I haven't seen any episodes of Glee. I don't want to see any episodes of Glee. I don't plan on watching any episodes of Glee.

But Joss Whedon directed one of the greatest musical episodes ever on television: "Once More With Feeling" from Buffy. So I expect the episode will be good for anyone who has a tolerance for musicals.

I heard the show was not too bad. I really wanted to give it a try last year but all I kept seeing was the Pilot...over and over.

This is Fox still apologizing for ruining one of my favorite and one of the biggest underrated sci-fi shows of all time.

Are we referring to Firefly, one of the best shows in history?

Glee's not that bad. I'm not really sure why people are so down on it.

And what's wrong with musicals? Dr. Horrible, Batman B&B: Music Meister... Musicals aren't just West Side Story and High School Musical y'know.

I don't have a problem with musicals.  There are lots of good musicals out there, but the thing that turns me off to Glee is that it seems so similar to High School Musical and that is a sad excuse for a musical.

I have to stop you right there, Glee is NOT High School Musical, if it is it's certainly better than all of them combined. Watch an episode before you go making these assumptions.

I didn't say that Glee was High School Musical, but you have to admit that there are some strong similarities.  Both take place in High School, both deal with High School relationships, and both are musicals.

After seeing all that in common I need some really good reasons to turn on Glee.  And I just haven't seen one yet.

Maybe you guys could help me by telling me which other shows that take place around high school/high school age people Glee is more similar to.

One Tree Hill ~ A prime time soap that my wife likes that has high school students getting married; having full time jobs; and having kids as if they were grown adults.

Boston Public ~ An older prime time drama that dealt more with the faculty of a high school in an impovershed community.

Glee's sole plot device isn't high school relationships. That's just one of the things floating around vs. something like High School Musical where it's at the fore front. The characters do have those similar archetypes, but they actually develop. The idea is that all of these kids from different factions of high school join the fallen-from-grace glee club and are going to work to elevate it back to that once great level.  It's not the deepest show, but it is good, clean fun.  And when the music does kick in, it's not just someone spontaneously bursting into song; it's a staged performance, which goes a long way to making the series more relatable than High School Musical.

Were I to equate it to anything, it's more Breakfast Bunch with songs than anything else, I guess.

The sentence was meant to be read as "What's wrong with musicals? (examples of great musicals that have been released recently)... (Concluding argument meant to contrast those earlier stated with musicals I didn't care for).

So I hope you aren't addressing me as a communist alien transvestite with no liver. That can be for the people who didn't like it.
