i agree that arkham asylum is not the most representative of the Batman books.
go with Long Halloween, it's 13 issues of awesomeness and some little bits of The Dark Knight were taken from it.

Are we discounting Year One in this list? Honestly, I think it's the best TPB.
Thanks for the info about the "back issue" by the way. I'll have to find it.

Is Year One a Batman origin story? I thought a lot of Batman Begins was taken from Year One. Is that right?

i am not discounting Year One, it's just not MY favorite Batman book.
Year One is an origin story as told by Frank Miller.

I am so tired of origin stories I can't stand it. I know Batman's origin so I don't need to hear it again or see it re-imagined by someone.
But good writing is good writing. Maybe I'll start with The Long Halloween and then read Year One after that.
I presume they aren't connected in any way, meaning I can read either or both with no continuity problems?

Honestly, if you just want to go through Bat History 101, I'd say start with Year One, go to Long Halloween, then Arkham Asylum, follow that up with The Killing Joke, and finish with The Dark Knight Returns.
I think covers a good chunk of the essential Batman stories.

So, between Hush and The Long Halloween, which is better for the casual Batman reader who should worship the almighty Bruce Wayne?

I didn't know there was a Dresden Files comic... hell I didn't know it was a novel. There was a pilot season of it on Sci-Fi and I loved it, but it wasn't continued. So, now I am going to have to search for more.

Gibralter do you know if any of those comics have been collected into a trade? I didn't find anything on the Dabel Brothers website, but I didn't know if you had ran across something before.
