Is anyone reading Irredeemable by Mark Waid?

I read the first 3 issues. I liked it well enough although something about it just wasn't quite hooking me. It got a lot of attention though.

If anyone is still reading it (or has read some of it, like me), what is your impression of it?

I bought issue one but then couldnt find issue 2 or 3 and by the time issue 4 came out I lost interest.

The first ish was pretty ok, but not enough for me to buy the really cheap trade collecting 1-5.

That was it. It just seemed kind of "okay".

It sure got a lot of hype and I know Mark Waid can write. So I'm not sure why I felt it was lacking. The premise seemed very interesting.

But it isn't on my list of comics to care about any more. I was wondering if others were reading it and enjoying it.

so far, doesn't see so

Yes, I am reading it and enjoying it.  I like the idea of a super villian that can't be beaten.  I won't say that each issue has been an amazing can't put it down read, but as a whole they have really started to tell the back story of the main character.

I keep reading not b/c each issue is the greatest thing ever written, but b/c I don't have a good feeling about how it is going to end.  This is what keeps me buying the next issue.

Is it being written to be an ongoing series or a limited series? 'Cause it seems the Plutonian is going to run out of adversaries pretty soon the way he was knocking them off.

My understanding is that this is an ongoing series.

Well, if it is an ongoing series I hope it does well. There needs to be more attention brought to some quality comics produced by companies other then Marvel, DC, and Image. It seems like BOOM! is on its way up.

I also thought I heard something about getting more into the character and history of some of the other heroes and villains that have come out of Irredeemable so far. That would be nice.

I have expressed my distaste for Marvel and DC constantly giving us new characters instead of focusing on established ones. But, since BOOM! has a whole universe of its own, in this case learning about these characters will be great.

I can only hear about Spider-Man and Superman's origin so many times...or have Wolverine's modified for me.

I like Matthew, can’t stand the on panel murder of children & the first issue (if I remember correctly) has this. It’s a HUGE turn off for me. But the story is interesting but didn’t grab me after two issues. I will buy the trade & read the whole thing.

It has this in the first few pages.

I almost did not read it for that, but I went ahead based on Mark Waid's writing and really enjoyed it. Matter of fact, I reviewed the trade a few days back.

It is a good look at something that has pretty much just been a "what if..." type scenerio for the other companies.

That was the most brutal act I have seen in a comic. But it no less brutal than the brutality committed in our world every day.

Seemingly normal people, of any social or economic status, snap and do something so heinous that it cannot be believed. This is all the worse when that person represents something high moral character in the way the Plutonian does.

The examination of what forces would bring a good person to such a state is fascinating. The depiction of the act certainly drives home how damaged this person has become, without anyone seeing the signs.

btw, What has happened with this title? Is it still going on?

Do we know all the details yet on what led to The Plutonian going over the edge? And, if we do, did it shape up to be a realistic and believable tale?

From what I read it seemed the point was that being a superhero has as many challenges as rewards and that not everyone is mentally equipped to handle those challenges. I remember Tony having an issue with a woman he loved and her telling people about his identity...or something like that.

I guess that changed, eh, Gaumer?  Smiley

I read the first graphic novel you sent me. I am enjoying it immensely and very much want to find out what happens next.

I wish they had been collected in around six trades of six issues each instead of nine trades of around four issues. But the read itself is excellent.

Yes Smiley

I bought the trade for 3 bucks at a used bookstore I frequent.
