Dear Spoilerites,
Please do not follow, kidnap, and force the crew to create a show in your basement in front of an audience of cardboard cut-outs to fulfill your own psychotic dream of greatness.
Thank You,
Slappy

I... you... How did you know?

Now I have to scrap all my plans. Jeez.

Let's just get a bunch of us together before we do it, call it a "Fan event".. Yeah, that'll work
2  Comics! / Marvel / Re: Why read Marvel? on: May 24, 2012, 02:57:27 PM
Thanks for the advice, I think I will try just randomly picking up some that catch my eye

To be honest, after the X-Men books, I was kind of turned off by Marvel, so it is good to hear that its more an X-Men problem then a company problem. I was kind of thinking Ironman or Spiderman, though I know basically nothing about Ironman, and Spiderman intimidates me because there are what seems like a hundred different Spiderman books on the shelf at any given time.

I got into comics because of the MSP, and from Rodrigo's comments about the Hulk and the crazy number of Hulk multiples, it kind of made me think Hulk wasn't a good book to try get into, but I will take a look next time I am at the store and see what I see with him.
3  Comics! / DC / Re: Kid Flash Question on: May 24, 2012, 02:44:21 PM
Yeah, its not something that ruins the story or anything, it was more like watching an action movie and wondering "Do you think someone could really flip a car like that?" or something, a curiousity. In that issue they even set up a telepathic mind connection network, or whatever it was actually called, which I think would have explained it better, but it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things.

Its good to know I'm not the only one who wonders things like that though.
4  Comics! / Marvel / Why read Marvel? on: May 24, 2012, 04:44:28 AM
Hello Spoilerites of the Marvel board!

I got into comics recently with the New 52, and am reading a number of titles regularly. I am somewhat interested in checking out Marvel, but I really do not know where/what to get into. I read the Point One comic, and to be honest I had no idea what characters I was reading about or what books I could find more of them in. I also tried a few issues of Uncanny X-men and Wolverine and the X-men, having seen a few episodes of the X-men tv show when I was younger, but didn't really get into it.

So with that in mind, any suggestions? What is a good ongoing to try get into? Or maybe you think there is a trade I should try first? What are you reading from Marvel that you absolutely love?
5  Comics! / DC / Kid Flash Question on: May 24, 2012, 04:39:33 AM
So I was reading the newest Teen Titans book and it brought a question to mind. Basically, there is a scene where Kid Flash, I assume, is running at fast speed, and he says something to Timber Wolf, who replies (Approx pg 5). Now, its no conversation by any means, and it doesn't bother me it just makes me curious, if he is moving at super speed, how is he able to talk, listen to a response, and reply to someone who is normal speed? Wouldn't he be gone by then? I would by that he can move fast but talk slow enough to understand, its more the fact they have a back and forth that I wonder about. And maybe it was implied that he did slow down during the scene, but does that mean he could have a conversation at super speed?

Like I said its just a curiosity I had, one of those things that I can ignore easily but is interesting to wonder about. So with that in mind, any interesting theories/DC factual explanations?

I only started reading Comics with the New 52, so I am still perfecting my system, but I find I read each issue as it comes out, though sometimes I don't get a chance to pick them up every week so I have a decent number to read.
I have always read a lot of the wordy type books though, so I am a pretty fast reader, and my comics don't last too long, so I usually pick up a trade or two (or a manga as my comic store has a basement full of them) every month to read when I have finished the single issues and want something lighter than a novel to read through.

I do completely agree with what you guys have said, but to be fair the Major Spoilers crew are pretty intelligent when it comes to the internet, privacy, and being smart about what you say and do. Some people aren't, and end up saying and doing things online that they shouldn't without even being aware of what they are really doing. Maybe, in those cases, the issue is one of education, that people, usually younger individuals I think, need to be taught about being aware and careful about what they put out there. Saying things to a friend is different than tweeting something, and although that is pretty clear when you think about it, I don't think everyone realizes it unless it is brought up.

I just think a lot about things, this was one of those things, and even though I get nervous about posting on message boards I figured I would give it a try as it was Major Spoilers that got me thinking about it. And I don't feel too silly about posting, so thanks Smiley
8  General Category / General Discussion / Socially Acceptable Stalker? on: May 18, 2012, 02:38:30 PM
So I was reading a tweet from Matthew and it made me think about how social media has allowed people to become 'socially acceptable stalkers. For example:

Following Matthew home from Gatekeeper Hobbies, Huntoon and Gage, Topeka! - Unacceptable!
Following Matthew on Twitter - Acceptable!

Finding the names of Stephen's kids by going through his trash - Unacceptable!
Finding the names of Stephen's kids by going through the MSP - Acceptable!

Finding out Rodrigo has a girlfriend from the pictures the private detective took - Unacceptable!
Finding out Rodrigo has a girlfriend from his Facebook status - Acceptable!

Learning Rob graduated because you enrolled in all the same classes as he did to make it easier to watch him - Unacceptable! (But legal!)
Learning Rob graduated from Stephen's twitter account - Acceptable!

Learning more about D&D Brian's hobbies by spending the day following him around from store to store - Unacceptable!
Learning more about D&D Brian's hobbies by spending the day trying to track him on Twitter, Facebook, and other forms of Social networking - Impossible!

Obviously I used the examples to give a bit of humour, but what does everyone think? Is the 'socially acceptable' stalker any better than the creepy version? Is it 'healthier' if you only stalk celebrities and not your high school crush? Sure, most people put their information out there for people to find, but does that make it alright to stalk them?

(Also, sorry if any of my examples creeped anyone out, they were only meant light-heartedly)
9  General Category / General Discussion / Help a Noob get into Comic Books! on: November 16, 2011, 08:30:52 PM
Greetings everyone!

As you may have deduced, I am very new to comics, and although I have at least a few questions, there is one I wanted to get some opinion on from long time readers.

I started reading comics one month ago, and began exclusively with DC's New 52, because they are all issue one. My issue with trying out a different series is where to start? To be honest, I am a bit hesitant to pick up a comic that is issue number 125, 33, or even 7, because I am not sure if I will be able to understand what is going on, if I will be able to get into it, or if I will just feel lost.

Same kind of deal with some of the trades. For example, if my local comic book store has Grimm Fairy Tales numbers 3, 5, 7, 8, 9 or whatever, and I want to give the series a try, is it easy to get number 3 and go from there, or is it better to try track down the first trade?

I realize I may just be completely over-thinking everything here, but being new to comics I just don't know. Are comics written in a way that it is easy to jump in at any point? Or should you wait?

So please, feel free to share your opinions and thoughts with me!
