Fables vol.11: i can honestly say that this series is by far my favorite comic series i've ever read. i love a lot of things, but Fables just have this special place in my heart. this volume is an awesome story finale to an awesome 6 years run. when i opened the first page, i couldn't close it until i read the entire book... twice. it's just that good. art is great as always, and the writing is near perfect, as always. i know some people who don't like the series, and i'm fine with it, but i have a friend who don't read comics, but read Fables and is actually waiting for me to lend him my copy of the book. he's asking me almost on a weekly basis when the next book will be published.
Fables Covers: The Art of James Jean: to go with the latest Fables book, we have a collection of all the covers by James Jean. he did the entire run (except 1 issue i think) and all the trades, which feature original art not seen on the regular issues. and every one of them are beautiful. i want to buy every one of them and hang them on my walls (yes, plural, there's more than 75 issues). each panel is accompanied buy some sketch, description of the technique used, a line or 2 from the book or a bit of script, which describe the panel. we finish with a wonderfull afterword by Bill Willingham (the writer of the series). any fan of the series shold get this, now.
Local hardcover: i waited way too long to read this thing. everything i read from Brian Wood was at least good, if not awesome. when i opened the book i just read it cover to cover in one sitting. i got the beautiful hardcover featuring the entire 12-issues run, with the usual bonus you find in a Brian Wood single issue (independant of course). by that i mean you get the music he (and the artist) listened to while writing it and their process to get the story done. one of the best buy you'll make this year, i promise
Indiana Jones Omnibus vol.1: this book is just fun. the writing is not particularly good, the art is fine, but it is indiana jones (not crystal skull, don't get me started). while reading this, you get the feel you got when you watched the movies (again, not crystal skull). i admit i was not sure at first, but once i started, i got lost in his adventures like when i first saw the movies. the omnibuis is cheap enough that even if you don't like, you won't regret it.
next... no idea, my reading pile is running dry, damn christmas.
