It's almost that time of year - time to tell everyone what was the best and worst of 2011.

Use the forums to nominate your best and worst of the year (books, creators, companies, events, whatever...).  Don't just write "Locke & Key by IDW Publishing," but give us reasons and examples for why it should be on the list!

GOOOOOOO!

Best of 2011: Mark Waid's Daredevil
Prior to this series, I never cared for Daredevil. At best, he made a good guest-star in a few issues of some other comic that I enjoyed.
Waid's treatment of Daredevil is different. I really enjoy his plots, his attempts at legal pseudo-realism and the art is top-notch too boot. The issues featuring a possible return of Klaw, the master of sound, were a real treat. I would recommend this to anyone.

Worst of 2011: Flashpoint
This series with all of its tie-ins and crossovers, is bad on almost every tier of consideration.
The main plot was unoriginal and was very poorly paced. It really could have been told in three issues.
The tie-ins were forgettable by and large. Any tie-ins (ex: the Frankenstein mini) that were not completely horrible bore very little relation or impact to the main plot arc.
The worst offence of all was that the lasting impact of this series will be negligible at best. This removes the need to re-read these books - which is the main way I judge the overall success of a comic.
Hopefully DC will learn from this in the New 52 era and never do this again.

This came up on Twitter today.... The Locke & Key short story "Open The Moon" included in the "Guide to the Known Keys" issue. Wow! I suspect my feelings have to do with the fact that I have kids, but this may be the one story this year that deeply touched me emotionally. And then it was also full of information and clues regarding the Locke & Key universe. Just a superb piece of writing in my opinion.

Best announcements:

- Mark Busiek and Astro City coming back as a monthly. Too bad it's not until next year.
- DC's relaunch: best thing to happen to comics in a long time. Let's face it, everyone was complaining about how stale comics had become. For better or worse, DC took a chance and attempted to fix the problem.

Best digital comic book app- Comixology: they really have figured out how to make this work, and the recent announcement that 50% of issues are now available same day as store copies shows how strongly they have attacked the market.

BEST

Doctor Who Season Six:  Despite a lengthy mid-season break, this season was filled with so many memorable episodes that have a lasting effect not only on future episodes, but on past episodes.  Will anyone look at the TARDIS the same after The Doctor's Wife?  Will anyone really ever trust the Doctor's word after The Girl Who Waited?  Now that we know who she is, will we ever see River Song again?  And that's not even mentioning The Silence or Canton Delaware III, two characters/creatures I sincerely hope we see again!

The Muppets: After far too long, the Muppets are back in theaters and it's as if they never left.  Long live the Muppets!

X-Men First Class:  Not only is it the best X-Men movie since X-Men 2 (and some argue it's the best ever), but this is the first movie that really makes the audience question their allegiance.  Magneto has been something of a sympathetic character before, but he's never been this bad@$$ and antiheroic before -- nor has Charles been so morally grey.  A great, great relaunch/reboot that will hopefully kickstart a new franchise.

Goes without saying that The New 52 deserves a mention. They may not be the best books ever written, but they got loads of people back in to buying monthly titles (myself included) I've been particularly impressed with DCU Presents, The Flash (the art in particular), Justice League, and the Green Lantern and Batman titles.
The trade for Locke & Key Vol 4: Keys To The Kingdom is one of the best books I've read all year. The opening Bill Watterson issue was brilliantly different. And they way the trade ended...WOW. And now the dreadful wait for the next trade.
The best comic-book movie of the year is Tintin. I know it's not out stateside yet, but it's truly great fun. I was never a huge fan of the books, or cartoon for that matter, but the movie is a joy. Captain America and X-Men First Class get worthy mentions.
The best movies of the year have been Super 8 and Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes. Both movies just blew me away, and I urge everyone to see these films. Immediately Smiley

Worst mini/maxi series-   despite the nice art "Fear Itself" was garbage.  Between the interesting parts of the story being in other books, the poor ending and the 3 .1s that undid everything I am done with event comics from Marvel.

Best of 2011

DCU New 52: reading Superman for the first time in years & I find both titles (Action & Superman). All Star Western is a great read. $2.99 for most titles!

Dark Horse Comics: Hellboy even tho he's dead has a lot of potential in 2012. Dark Horse Presents, anthology of the year.

Major Spoilers: great podcast, good website, fair forum (you have one of these?!?!)...also Top 5

Digital Comics: the end product has improved...only need to improve price point

Worst of 2011

Wizard Magazine subscription: need I say more

Major publishers comic events: I am burnt out on events, just want to read good stories about my characters, like DC is doing

The Best - Daredevil was well worth the price (unlike The Mighty Thor) as was Green Lantern and Batwoman, but Kieron Gillen's Journey Into Mystery was by far the best serial comic of the year.  Admittedly the art was never much to brag about, but the story was always intricate and well crafted, with characters that were distinct and consistent and a non-stop (logical) plot.

Best
skyrim: the game is amazing and I've played more of this game than any other 2 games this whole year
Atomic robo: great comic that needs more people reading it.
DC 52: Specificly the dark comics which have been fantastic with demon knights being my favorite.
Archer: the FX show didn't start this year but had a great second season and the start of a third. Everyone should be watching this show.
Batman Arkham City : A fantastic game that makes you feel like batman swooping in and taking out villians.
TMNT : The start of a new turtles series has started out fantastic anyone who liked the old turtles be it comics, movie,or cartoon should give this series a chance.
The major spoiler experience: gave me hours upon hours of great entertainment and news. Here's to another great year and to a good new year.

WORST
Atomic robo delays
Mouse guard delays
Last season of batman brave and the bold : the end of a great show
Green lantern movie : It was a very lackluster movie
Torchlight 2 being pushed back to 2012: torchlight was a good diablo dungeon crawler and the second looks like it will be even bigger and better.
