The case of Amazing spider-man being great after OMD is more of an "inspite of," than a "because of," but that's no reason to keep avoiding the book.

Agreed, but I still want an endgame that pivots from BND and OMD.

2009 has been a brilliant and expensive year for me as it was the year I re-found my love of comics.  As I said in earlier posts I went to America and so had no money left over for comics.  So I gave them up.  But that all changed in 2009.  I blame a couple of things, one of which is this website and Marvel's website, for restarting my comic collecting days.  That and all the meds I've had to take this year, thanks to my transplant.  Nothing picks me up more than the post man with a fresh delivery of comics. Sometimes I had 20-30 come in one day. (In the words of Hommer WOO-HOO Grin)

Since February 2009 I have read most of the comics that came out between August 2007 – Now.  I say this because I may say something that started last year.  For example only in the last month have I read all 28 Avenger Initiative Comics and all 16 issues of Thor.

I too enjoyed reading the Secret Warriors, but I always  like reading comics with Nick Furry in them.  I also enjoyed reading the Dark Avengers/X-Men cross over, as it showed why Cyclops is the leader of the X-Men and how low Norman is willing to go.
I also think Dark Reign in general is a great story arc and I am looking forward to see how 2010 will play out.  It's not the first time a villain has reached for the top look at Dell Rusk AKA The Red Skull.  The difference being everybody knows who Norman used to be and he doesn't try hide it.  Where as The Red Skull tried to hide his true identity and was rubbish at covering his tracks.  Good thing he improved this when killing (or kidnapping in a very elaborate way) Captain America.

I know OMD doesn't count but I only read it 4 months ago.  I bought ASM #540-#592 in a week.  Damn did that bruise my bank account, but it was mostly worth it.

Captain America: Reborn has definitely got me interested in Marvel and how it will affect the Dark Avengers storyline.

But if it's about Steve Rogers I guess my interest is a given.

How about 4 dimension traveling Atomic Robos in one scene.
And The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is the first old book remake that actually seems to have really taken off at Marvel, maybe we'll see some other classics do well in this coming year.

Bad things: The decline of the Ultimate universe
Bad thing: Batman stories until they killed him
Bad things: I Wolverine origins (the movie)
Bad Things: Terminator Salvation
Bad Things: The cancellation of Sarah Connor chronicles

Good things: Batman and Robin -loving Dick as Batman and Batman not being such a dick, (we've got Damien for that!)
Good things: The panel layout and art by JH Williams III in Detective Comics
Good things: Kick Ass
Good things: Major spoilers reaching 100 issues. It was great to point voices to names faithful spoilerites sound like plus interact in real time with the folk at Major Spoilers stately manor.
Good things: Steve Rogers being dead (he IS still dead isn't he?)
Good things: DC - after the Infinite Crisis and the various spin offs - I felt that DC had jumped the shark, but after hearing the buzz I caught up on trades of Green Lantern, the Corps War, plus the ongoing Blackest Night arc - I've added a few titles to my tiny but perfectly formed pull list.

The abosulte worst of 2009 (for me) is TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN.  Do I even need to go into why?

Best Star Trek preboot, didn't make me want to bitch.

I just recently saw the T2: RotF and I thought it was pretty good. It was a kids movie and if you look at it through those glasses you don't see a bad movie, you see a pretty fun kids movie with a little too much skin showing.

I am avoiding Tf2:ROTF due to the bad press it got - I fit the 30+ age bracket and for me you can't beat the original animated movie + soundtrack :-D (death of Prime gets me everytime)

Bad things: The decline of the Ultimate universe   Moon faced Spidey. Nuff said.
Bad thing: Batman stories until they killed him      Batman RIP still haunts my nightmares.
Bad things: I Wolverine origins (the movie)           CGI PAtrick Stuart and memory erasing bullets. What the hell were they thinking?
Bad Things: Terminator Salvation                         Meh. It was whatever.
Bad Things: The cancellation of Sarah Connor chronicles   So much potential, so little of it capitalized upon.

Good things: Batman and Robin -loving Dick as Batman and Batman not being such a dick, (we've got Damien for that!)  Awesome series. Proves that Grant Morrison can write after RIP
Good things: The panel layout and art by JH Williams III in Detective Comics  The other good Batman thing
Good things: Kick Ass   The most relatable character, almost in a tragic sense, I've ever. Too much fun to mention
Good things: Major spoilers reaching 100 issues. It was great to point voices to names faithful spoilerites sound like plus interact in real time with the folk at Major Spoilers stately manor.  I actually hated hearing myself talk. But the rest of you sound cool.
Good things: Steve Rogers being dead (he IS still dead isn't he?)  They better not undo Bucky's characterization with Steve's return.
Green Lantern, and Green Lantern Corp in particular, can always be a source of greatness. That and Secret Six is AMAZING. I highly recommend it to ANYONE.

I agree with all of those points.

I'd add:

That 4 issue Invincible Ark with conquest: Ottley's best art yet.
Umbrella Academy volume 2: Great, great series. Proves that celebrity spin offs aren't all bad.
Scott Pilgrim vol. 5: Great tragedy that leads up to the big boss battle next volume.

With so much love floating around I NEED to catch up on Invincible - only just read the first trade
Same with Umbrella Academy - haven't reads any of it
Scott Pilgrim - think I'm up to volume 4, waiting for it to come back to the local library. Will be really interested in seeing what Edgar Wright does with it - based on past track record - it's in good hands
Secret Six? Bloody hell - yet another series to add to my must read list. Thanks for the heads up :-)

Oh and a non-comic why 2009 is SO great. Faith No More reforming -'nough said \m/

You'd be hard pressed to find someone who is as big a TF fan such as myself.  Considering I saw the TF '07 7-times in theaters, I barely made it through TF2 twice in theaters.  While they are some stunning visuals (which IMHO hold up better on the small screen), the plot is tenuous and held together with dental floss at some parts.  You cut 35-40 min. out of TF2 and you have a solid movie. Or you can just do what I do ... watch it on 1.5x speed on my PS3.

But yes the TF  '86 is THE greatest movie of all time (although it's a close tie with Big Trouble in Little China).  Can't wait until that comes out on Blu-ray.

And if I see it, I'll be encouraging them to continue make such drivel.
Probably a discussion for another thread. Have you read the UK transformer comics? If so what did you think?

I've read some of the Furman UK comics, but have been unable to get through all of them.   They're good fun, however the Marvel TF comics always seemed to be lacking to me.  Now if we start talking Marvel GI Joe ... they were frakking awesome.

One thing that I forgot:

Jeff Smith announcing that he's upping RASL to six issues a year.  While I am a bit of a trade waiter (Jeff's 12x9 trades do a great job of enhancing his art) and I didn't mind Jeff working at such a slow pace since he considered it his most comfortable work pace, I do think it's great that he's realizing his fans ravenous want to get his stuff sooner.
