It may be too early for this but I wanted a place where we could highlight the good and the bad of the past year for...well, everything. Not awards so much (unless we want to go that direction) but just some place to discuss what was up in 2009. A breakout moment or creator or a series or even a single issue. And of course the bad stuff too.

I'll throw the G.I. Joe re-boot up for 'biggest surprise'. I knew this was going to be G.I. Joe, but I didn't think I would love it this much.

How about X-Men for 'most U-Haul mileage' for their move out of NYC after decades, to San Francisco, for about a month, to X-Nation to wherever they're gonna be in about 7 months Smiley

The "Your Friend Is Only Mostly Dead" award goes to Barry Allen in the DCU and Steve Rogers in the MU, for showing up after their own funerals.

The X-men are still going to be in San Fransisco it just that there base of operations has changed. Speaking of Marvel some great new series came out this year from them, Rick Remender's Punisher is the coolest the character has ever been in the MU. Hickman is doing marvelous things in Secret Warriors, and Agents of Atlas shows how awesome the 1950s were. Plus, Steve Rogers returned, Iron Man slowly lost his mind, Thor was exiled, and Daredevil took control of the Hand. Oh, yeah and Norman Osborn controls th government. As for DC, the dead came back to life and Batman and Robin were "reborn."

The "Click-Click-BOOM!" award goes to Boom! Studios. I'd never heard of them before this year but with titles like Irredeemable they made themselves known on the comic scene.

Wow! Good points. I don't know if you read Thunderbolts, but between Hickman, Remender and Diggle the new writing blood this year at Marvel IS amazingly good.

We are getting some great writing all the way around.

Matt Fraction on Uncanny X-Men. Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning on Guardians of the Galaxy. Ed Brubaker on Captain America.

A lot of good stories are coming out of the House of Ideas this year.

Biggest Disappointment award goes to War Machine, I don't know who told Greg Pak it was an awesome idea to turn Rhodie into a killing machine but I stopped reading that pile of garbage after issue 2.

Biggest disappointment hands down goes to Frank Miller and Jim Lee with the lack of putting our Batman and Robin: The Boy Wonder. This run is cheesy, not the best written and WAY over the top BUT…it’s the GOD DAMN BATMAN!!! SO I read it. Alas, I have taken this off of the saver account list and will never look to it again. Not only is the lack of releasing issues on anywhere near a regular basis but the lack of content left my Batman libido wanting more (or should I say lusting for more?). The art is pretty & the high gloss wonder paper they print on it great but the price point and the aforementioned hangs up for my libido are a deal breaker. Good bye Frank Miller’s GOD DAMN BATMAN!!

Le sigh.

Now to my best of!!

Blackest Night. Now I’m not normally really big into the big “OMFG THIS EVENT WILL CHANGE EVERYTHING AS WE KNOW IT IN THE UNIVERSE SQUEE” events in Marvel OR DC but this one had me peeing my pants excited. I’m a HUGE Green Lantern fan and to FINALLY see the war of light is making me giddier than I dry humping high school cheerleader. I think Geoff Johns is a BMF and has done a great job with setting up this complex story but incorporating some much Lantern cannon. The writing is top notch, the art is VERY slick and the over all entertainment value for me is worth reading the tie inns and spending the money. It’s more than solid and I can’t wait to see what’s next!! Continuing with my libido theme…`In darkest day and blackest night beware now of my libidos MIGHT; for I LOVE this Green Lantern fight!!!!”

I love the Hulk. Greenskin. Jade Jaws. You know..The Incredible Hulk. I waited a year + through all of this Red Hulk shinola and what do I get? Two Hulk comics being published but neither starring the Incredible Hulk. I'm holding back with the exclamation marks; you have no idea.

Secret Warriors surprised the heck out of me. I started buying it on a wait-and-see basis and ended up loving it every month. For the first time I feel Nick Fury may actually make a significant impact in the Marvel universe.

It didn't start this year, but I discovered it this year; Locke & Key continues to be the best read out there. The new mini is starting soon.

A small shot out to my man Nova. He passed the original series count of 25 issues this year and is now his longest running ongoing. That, at least, makes this old bucket-head fan happy.

I too am a fan of Nova. It is one of the first comics I started buying when I was a kid.

I enjoy Guardians of the Galaxy too. The cosmic titles have proven to be well-written and a lot of fun to read.

Me too.  I picked up the first Locke & Key hardcover and was hooked.  I can't wait for the next one.

Considering One More Day was a year and a half ago no. Also, you should try reading some of the newer issues of ASM, their actually good.
