One would think the Robin Williams’ Popeye movie would have given H’wood plenty of reason to not do another Popeye movie. Depending on your point of view, it could either be the greatest Popeye movie ever made, or the worst. Former Marvel Studios head Avi Arad thinks the world is ready for another Popeye film, as he’s acquired the screen rights to the E.C. Segar creation. Arad’s version won’t feature humans with deformed bodies, but rather will be a CGI animated film featuring the sailor, his girl Olive, Bluto (or Brutus), and the rest of the Popeye cast. Hopefully it will be better than the image above.

Oh, well let’s see what this leads to then…
Popeye wasn’t a bad movie at all… It was very true to the Thimble Theatre shorts, and very well-directed.
I don’t agree with making it CGI animated — I want it done as a non-musical, but with live actors. The way visual effects can be done nowadays, Popeye’s physics-warping feats of spinach-fueled strength would be very entertaining!
