Or – “The Return Of The Greatest X-Man Of Them All!”

XM2.jpg

It has been many years since the original five X-Men teamed up to battle various fat, bald, ugly pro-wrestler types.  In the ensuing years, seemingly hundreds of mutants have joined various incarnations of the X-Franchise, but everybody seems to forget the FIRST mutant recruit to join the then-handful of X-Kids…  The man called The Mimic.  In a world gone mad, where no one’s loyalties can be easily discerned, this legendary lost hero has returned, to once again spearhead the team he once led.

(Oh, there’s some other guys in this book, too…)

Word is spreading through the blogosphere that Phil Jimenez is stepping in to replace artist Simone Bianchi on the Astonishing X-Men series written by Warren Ellis.  It’s interesting if it is true, as Simone is a really dedicated artist who does some pretty “astonishing” art.

But what the hell do I know if this is true, the story first appeared on Superpouvoir.com, which is a French website, and I don’t speak French, plus the story has been removed from the site.  We’ll find out more on Tuesday at 12:00 EDT, right here on this site, but you’ll have to do some math and pay careful attention to “the post” to see if this is the real deal or not.

It’s been ages since I’ve purchased an X-Men poster, but this door sized Jim Lee remastered X-Men Forever poster just might find itself on my buy list.

Now I just need to convince the wife, my son needs a poster like this in his room.

The $15.99 poster arrives June 24, 2009.

Chris Claremont returns to the X-Men family next month with the release of X-Men Forever Alpha #1.  While the issue features his original X-Men #1-3 run, Marvel is including an all new eight-page story.  It then kicks into high gear in June with the X-Men Forever #1 and  #2.  Marvel has sent Major Spoilers a sneak peek that you can see after the jump.

You’ve already seen young Cyclops in the trailer to May’s Wolverine movie, and you may be seeing more of him in the near future (providing he doesn’t agree to appear in a DC Comics movie).  In an interview with Fox Movie Channel, franchise producer Lauren Shuler did say the X-Men: First Class movie was on the way and would be a flashback flick featuring the young versions of the mutants we’ve all come to love.

It is the first class of Xavier’s school, way back when, so it’s young Scott, young Jean, young Beast and that’ll be really fun… I think (the plan) is to follow some of the characters into their own stories, and weave them back into the X-Men world. And hopefully First Class will become its own franchise and we can follow them as they grow up.

While it may be cool to hear news about First Class, I’m wondering why everyone is steering away from the X-Men Origins: Magneto movie?  And will the First Class follow the comic book series, or will this be the relaunch of the X-Men brand as a darker and edgier tale ala Iron Man the the Hulk? Fox is already trying to tweak the next Fantastic Four movie along those lines, so maybe the company is trying to get in line with Marvel Studios to attract more viewers.

Wait a minute.  So if the team has Wolverine, Emma Frost, and Prof. X, is it really all new?  Or just an all new team line up? Here’s hoping the company gets the deadly and dark part right.

And as a weird side note: Usually Marvel sends out their images preformatted at 550 pixels wide.  This image came set at 666 pixels wide.  Mayhaps the devil is indeed in the details.    Am I reading too much into that, or has Newsarama told the Marvel PR people that they’ve changed their image resolution requirements again and want the House of Ideas to comply? I’m just saying is all….

NBC has announced it has ordered another 18-20 episodes Heroes.  While the show has stumbled a bit this season as far as ratings go, it is tied with The Office as the network’s top rated series for the 18-49 crowd.

What do you want to see in season 4?  The introduction of a character with magical powers that turns back time to a point where none of the mutants Heroes exist?  Giant robots programmed by the gov’ment that are released into society to hunt down those mutants Heroes who haven’t registered?  Or maybe the mutants Heroes will have some infighting amongst themselves forcing them to choose sides, which eventually leads to them shooting Sylar into space, who later returns to take down those who did him wrong, but instead a rival alien force invades the planet, thus setting up the bad guys to rule the world?  Eighteen to twenty episodes?  Yeah, I think they could get all that in.

I’ve picked up a few of the Mighty Mugg figures over the last year or so, and they are pretty neat.  Hasbro has unveiled the latest X-Men Mighty Muggs featuring Wolverine, Sabertooth, Pheonix, and Cyclops.  Of the four, I’ll probably pick up the Cyclops figure, as Jean Grey is just a little weird looking.

Seems like there are too many large story arcs for me to keep track of.  Following this week’s final Secret Invasion, the Marvel universe goes into Dark Noir, while X=Men head to Manifest Destinty.  Eternals #7 kicks off a three part X-Men: Manifest Destiny tie-in story when it arrives January 7, 2009.  The issue is written by Charles and Daniel Knauf with art by Erick Nguyen.

“The Knaufs have really gotten this book firing on all cylinders,” raves Paul Brian McCoy of Eternals. “Characterizations are consistent, the dialogue is believable, when there are jokes, they are funny, and there are some truly cosmic touches that bring the narrative to a higher thematic level.”
