We’ve hit the jackpot with Marvel, finally getting on their advanced previews/review list, which means we have a whole slew of sneak peeks to share of the Marvel titles arriving this week (July 18).

Take the jump for The Order, Super-Villain Team-Up/MODOK’s 11, Thunderbolts: Desperate Measures, ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #111, WOLVERINE: ORIGINS ANNUAL #1, WOLVERINE: ORIGINS ANNUAL #1, WORLD WAR HULK: X-MEN #2 , and World War Hulk: Front Line.

UPDATE: Oops - We made a mistake!  We accidentally posted the first couple of pages from World War Hulk #2.  Totally my fault in misunderstanding a communication from Marvel. Those pages have been taken down and are no longer available on this site.  World War Hulk #2 looks spectacular and arrives in stores on July 18. - stephen

Heroes For Hire #11

Or - “A Case Where Even I Recognize That A Crossover Can’t Hurt…”

H4H11.jpg

I’ve been reading Heroes For Hire on the appeal of the former Deadly Hands of Kung Fu castmembers Shang-Chi and the Daughters of the Dragon, and very much enjoying it’s retro feel. It’s a book that’s out-of-step with the rest of the Marvel Universe, adventuring in a more classic mode with actual supervillains and an old-school vibe. In spite of that (or, more likely, BECAUSE of that) the sales haven’t been as impressive as I would have hoped. This week, for the first time ever, H4H has sold out at the store (Gatekeeper Hobbies, Huntoon & Gage, Topeka! Ask us about the Harbinger Hardcover!) due entirely to a World War Hulk crossover and I couldn’t be happier… The question is, how many of the new buyers will stay?

Incredible Hulk #107

Or - “The Question Is Simple: Man or Monster?”

In11.jpg

Problem is, the answer is difficult and a lot more complicated than it seems. For all my Iron Man bashing, (Hi, Zeke!) even I understand the impetus behind the Illuminati decision to remove the problem of the Hulk from their midst. The Marvel party line for years has been that the Hulk never killed anybody, but that seems to have been left aside for a more “realistic” approach. For his part, The Hulk had found love and acceptance, and blames the Illuminati for the death of his family. With both sides having already passed the point of no return, conflict is inevitable, and with any conflict, there are those who would choose sides…

Or - “Hulk No Care About Political Infrastructure!”

WWH14.jpg

Though every comic company uses the hype machine, Marvel is often considered to be the pinnacle of pre-release hyperbole, dating back to the heady days of Stan Lee. The House of Ideas has been telling the Fearless Front Facers for months that World War Hulk is going to be huge, and that nothing will ever be the same again. Even granted their overuse of that particular turn of phrase, after reading this issue, I’m starting to believe it.
