Marvel’s Digital Comics Unlimited service just got a tad more interesting with the release of  the  exclusive three-issue mini-series Wolverine vs. Thor.

From veteran Wolverine scribe Frank Tieri and fan favorite artist Paco Diaz, begins a three part epic in which Logan confronts by an army of his greatest foes—all at the same time! How can Wolvie possibly survive? And will Thor join the fray as friend or foe?

Those who are already subscribed to the service, can check the issue out right here.

Even though Wolverine has less than blockbuster success at the box office, H’Wood is sending the adamantium clawed hero back to theaters for a second outing.

The movie’s story line will take its cue from the early 1980s Chris Claremont/Frank Miller miniseries, which is set in Japan and features Wolverine dealing with ninjas as he struggles whether to follow his animal killer instincts or the life under a samurai’s code of honor and respect.

Hugh Jackman will return as the title character and will also serve as producer.   $180 million isn’t anything to sneeze at, and I bet Fox is hoping good word, and with the “Usual Suspects” scribe Christopher McQuarrie on board to write, the followup might be better than the original.  I know there are some of the Major Spoilerites who liked the Wolverine movie, and I wonder how many will head back to the theater for the sequel?

Here’s another cryptic The End promo piece from Marvel.  The last one featured Wolverine, but I don’t know if these bones are charred adamantium or not.

Mike Deodata had a really great quote the other day that I wanted to share with everyone.

I got an email from a young comic artist wanabee who wanted to know how old I was when I started working at Marvel, so that he could have an idea how long it would take for him to break in, as well. He was feeling already too old. He’s nineteen.

I told him that age doesn’t matter.

One of the worst artists I know of started at Marvel when he was 20.

One of the best artists I know of — Hal Foster — started his immortal creation, Prince Valiant, when he was 40.

You can start at Marvel at 20 and be a zero. You can start at 40, never work for Marvel and yet be a genius.

Age doesn’t matter. Talent does.

Now watch as Mike cranks out a Wolverine sketch.

Marvel has announced that Dark Wolverine #75 has sold out and is going back to press with a variant cover by Giuseppe Camuncoli.

The Old Man Logan story line continues to cause Wolverine to sell out at the distributor level, and Marvel has announced #72 has repeated the pattern for a 10th time.  Because of this, Marvel is sending the issue back to print that features a variant cover using the interior art by Steve McNiven.

It’s been coming for ages — and we all knew it.

This unnatural and unnerving, pacifist side of this alternate future world Wolverine was something that was crying out to be changed. Even though every faithful reader who has been following this very entertaining story over the past several issues understood the very valid reason that Logan had for being the way he is, we felt totally unsatisfied with the status quo.

Large amounts of mayhem were surely going to erupt at some time in the immediate future — and we all knew it.

Apparently, you can never have enough Wolverine, and I found Collen Coover’s Wolverine sketch cover freakin’ great.

Parker and Lieber are both doing awesome Wolverine sketch covers for the Hero Initiative charity, and not wanting to be left out, I snagged one of the extra special blank varient covers to do one of my own! The sketch cover comics will be put up for auction (along with others done by about 100 other comics artists!) sometime in the near future to benefit the Hero Initiative, a charity to help support veteran comics creators in need of emergency financial assistance.

When in doubt, always go for mutant healing.

Why Having Wolverine’s Claws Would Suck — powered by Cracked.com

Wolverine is 100 years old, right?  Plus, as I’ve previously pointed out, you can do something right without a Wolverine appearance to draw people in.  Regardless, i dig the lines and the color of this simple pose.

Marvel has announced Wolverine #73 has done so well at the distributor level, that the issue is completely sold out, and will be heading back to press.

In the second story, the fan favorite creative team of Daniel Way and Tommy Lee Edwards prepare for a shocking change by presenting the prelude to the all new ongoing Dark Wolverine!  Logan makes his way back to San Francisco, but it isn’t his style to quietly sit around!  Don’t miss the powerful interior art of Adam Kubert on the cover of this second printing variant!

The second printing with the variant cover, will arrive in stores on June 17, 2009, with a cover price of $2.99.
