Zenescope Entertainment sent us a collection of photos they snapped at the show, and wanted to share with the world.
During the Wiz World Philly DC Nation Panel, DC EIC Dan Didio gave a bit more news on the upcoming Doc Savage series coming out of the company.
Didio then revealed that DC would bring back the classic pulp hero Doc Savage via a monthly series to be written by Brian Azarello (”100 Bullets”) and drawn by Rags Morales. Morales said that the series will bring Savage into the DCU, though it will take place in an alternate universe where he will work and interact alongside such classic characters as Blackhawk and Will Eisner’s The Spirit. The world Savage lives in will also be a blend of our modern era and the classic ‘30s pulp era he comes from (”cell phones and tommy guns” as DiDio put it). No news was given about a release date yet.
Glad it is a monthly, glad it is being set on a different Multiverse Earth, glad they aren’t trying to bring back the last DC Comics Doc Savage series.

Dynamite certainly surprised many with the announcement that Bill Willingham will be writing a new series for the company. For this and other announcements made at Saturday’s Wizard World Philly panel, just take the jump.

Wizard World Philly is going on this weekend, and here’s a rundown of the announcements Dynamite Entertainment made at the show today.
Archie Comics dropped Major Spoilers a quick note to let us know that artist and writer Dan Parent will be attending this weekend’s Wizard World Philadelphia and will be signing in Artist Alley (table 99B). Stop by his booth and check everything out.

Shocker Toys has announced that it is bringing The Maxx to Wizard World Philly June 19th through the 21st.
Sam Keith’s MTV The Maxx Exclusive will be ready to throw down at the Wizard show, and he ain’t no push over. Shocker Toys will have on hand MTV’s the Maxx fully poseable action figure with all painted highlights and his suit cast in translucent purple plastic. The Maxx will be featured with translucent purple suit parts and come with 2 heads and 3 Isz. These are limited edition figures with only 250 each produced and once gone will only become a highly sought after Indie Spotlight collectible.
Also on the line up of exclusives and premiers are 6-inch figures of ShadowHawk, SCUD, Kabuki, Katchoo and The Max from the company’s Indie Spotlight.

Arriving for the first time will be Mallows, a 5-inch designer collection toy for collectors.

Here’s something that makes a whole lot of sense; your company is letting people go left and right, you cancel and/or postpone Wizard World Texas and Wizard World Los Angeles, so you go out and purchase the Big Apple Convention. To make matters even more confusing, Gareb Shamus is moving the show to October 16 – 18, 2009, which just so happens to be the same month that the New York Comic Con had announced it is moving to. If Shamus and Wizard wanted to stir up a hornet’s nest of publicity on a slow news day, it certainly succeeded in that.
The complete press release after the jump, and don’t forget the comment section for you to do all that talk backin’ that y’all do so well.

Newsarama has broken the story that both Wizard World LA and Wizard World Texas have cancelled their upcoming shows.
WizardWorld LA was scheduled for March 13-15 at the Los Angeles Convention Center; and Dallas for November 6-8. Newsarama confirmed the information about the L.A. show early Friday afernoon when a spokesperson for the L.A. Convention Center said that they that had been notified via voicemail on Friday morning that Wizard was canceling its show. Other sources have confirmed for Newsarama that the Texas show has been cancelled as well.
This is both something expected and a bit of a shock. Wizard World LA is just a couple months away, and already had a line up of guests scheduled to appear. Both shows were already preselling tickets, and presumably vendors have already placed and paid for booth space. Considering the Wizard World shows haven’t had big showings outside of Chicago and possibly Philadelphia, and the recent “restructuring” the company has undergone in the last year, shutting down some its less attended shows in a time of economic crisis makes sense.
Some may remember the outcry that occured when Wizard World Atlanta tried to take over the weekend usually reserved for Heroes Con in Charlotte, NC. Wizard quickly resolved the issue after a massive write in campaign, but I have to wonder if that blunder wasn’t the beginning of the end for Wizard World.
The Wizard World website still has the shows listed on its site, and is still claiming Stan Lee is the guest of honor at the LA event, so let’s see how this story develops.
UPDATE: HERE’S THE OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM WIZARD ENTERTAINMENT
Congers, NY (January 9, 2009) – Wizard Entertainment announced today that it has postponed its 2009 Wizard World Los Angeles show slated for March 13-15 and cancelled the Wizard World Texas show November 6-8 due to the current economic climate.
The successful Philadelphia and Chicago shows will go on as planned. Wizard World Philadelphia, featuring Guest of Honor Garth Ennis, is June 19-21 at the Philadelphia Convention Center and Wizard World Chicago, featuring comic legend George Perez, is August 6-9 at the Rosemont Convention Center.
