BURBANK, CA, (July 26, 2008) – Nathan Fillion (Desperate Housewives, Serenity) has joined Warner Home Video’s Saturday, July 26 panel at Comic-Con in support of Wonder Woman, the fourth entry in the DC Universe animated original movie series. Presented by DC Comics, Warner Premiere, Warner Home Video and Warner Bros. Animation, Wonder Women streets in February 2009 on DVD, Blu-Ray, OnDemand and for download. (more…)
Seems like we’ll never go a season without some form of Batman or Justice League cartoon available for fans. The next outing for Warner Bros. Animation is Batman: Brave and the Bold. There are lots of recurring characters including Booser Gold and Skeets, who will be voiced by the original voice actors from JLU.
Looks like Warner Bros. is going all out in the cranking up the hype machine and tie-ins for next year’s Watchmen movie. The company’s interactive division has announced at least two Watchmen inspired games that tie to the movie.
The videogames based on WATCHMEN will go beyond the film and delve into the characters, rivalries and challenges in a mature action-brawler. The game provides gamers with visceral superhero combat as urban vigilantes Rorschach and Nite Owl.
The game will be available for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Windows PCs in 2009. What’s interesting about this game announcement is the game will be downloadable, and will also be an episodic game. Does that mean you complete levels to move on to the next download or what?
WBIE execs said that by producing shorter downloadable games, rather than a full-priced disc version, they’ll have more flexibility to produce high-quality titles on a tight production schedule of just more than a year.
Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to the upcoming Capeshooters comic book by Rob Liefeld.
In “Capeshooters,” two slackers become paparazzi who specialize in shooting covert videos of superheroes find themselves on the run after they stumble onto evidence that a revered superhero is actually a villain.
Seems like an interesting take, although it does seem like that premise has been done before. Bryan Singer’s Bad Hat Harry Productions will produce the adaptation, however while this looks like a films rights deal, BHH produces a lot of television series, so it wouldn’t surprise me if this landed on the WB small screen in series form.
I know people who have watched the Watchmen trailer over 100 times since it was released last week. I’ve also seen people bicker back and forth over the shots seen, and how close of an adaptation Zack Snyder will bring to the big screen.
To help in your decision making, Major Spoilers has gone through the trailer and compared shots from the movie with shots from the graphic novel. Take the jump to see the comparison for yourself.
UPDATE: Looks like Empire Online beat me to the punch by a couple of hours on this story. I honestly didn’t realize it until just a few minutes ago when submitting the story to DIGG. That’s what I get for sleeping last night.
I think everyone saw this coming after the spectacular opening night the Dark Knight had in theaters. It’s official now, The Dark Knight has officially pwned Spider-Man in the box office, taking in an estimated $155.3 million over the weekend. Even at two hours and forty-one minutes, the Dark Knight was able to best the third installment of the wall crawler series by $4 million.
“This is a career-capper for anybody who works on a film like this in our business,” Warners distribution president Dan Fellman said. “It’s a great ride, and it’s just beginning, Most of the big summer films have already come out, so we have a great play time ahead of us.”
Is the Dark Knight perfect? No, there are plenty of flaws that can be pointed out. Is it fun and entertaining? Oh yes. If you haven’t given Warner Bros. your $10 yet, you really ought to catch this movie in the theater. It is big, it is loud, and it is a thrill ride you won’t get sitting at home watching it on your 65-inch plasma. As we have seen this summer, and in fact all year, movies tend to have a major drop off going into the second weekend. I would be surprised if Dark Knight had and more than a 20% drop at the box office, and wouldn’t be surprised if the numbers rose a little bit given the numerous showings, fan hype, and the awesome performance by Heath Ledger.
Yesterday the Emmy nominations were announced with the incredibly awesome HBO series John Adams receiving the most nominations (23). Further down the list, DC’s New Frontier made it on the Animated Program (One hour or more) list alongside Family Guy’s Blue Harvest and South Park’s Imaginationland episodes.
Hands down New Frontier should get the award, but everyone in H’wood seems to be in love with Seth MacFarlane, so don’t be surprised if the Star Wars parody walks away with the award.
First it was Invincible getting the animated treatment, now Warner Bros. is announcing something very similar.
UPDATE: I just finished watching the 22 minute Chapter 1, and I must say it looks really good. The images are taken from the graphic novel, and do include word balloons and the like, but what makes this one stand out is that the panels are animated, with the figures moving, and shifting through the scene. The only thing that would have made this first episode better would have been if they could have gotten the character’s mouths to move. Other than that, it is worth checking out over on iTunes.

People around the world have been wetting themselves in anticipation (or so I hear, I wouldn’t know from any first hand experience - I swear) for the release of Warner Bros.’ Dark Knight movie. Today’s the day, and with screenings beginning at 6:00 AM in some cities, Dark Knight is priming itself to be the biggest opening weekend box office of all time - it just has to beat Spider-Man 3.

More exploitation cuteness after the jump, for those of you that care to see more photos of my son wearing a Batman mask.
Apple’s QuickTime Trailer site has it in the full glory, and you are going to want to download the HD version, just so you can watch it again, and again, and again, and again.
For those of you who think this movie is going to suck - I gotta say I was blown away by the visuals in this trailer. From the visuals alone, this looks like a great interpretation of the film. Yes, there are going to be some differences, but oh boy I’m thinking I can look past that.

In this bonus episode, Rodrigo and Stephen review the Batman: Gotham Knight DVD from Warner Video.
Acclaimed screenwriters including David Goyer (Batman Begins) Josh Olson (A History of Violence) and Alan Burnett (Batman The Animated Series) join forces with revered animation filmmakers on six spellbinding chapters chronicling Batman s transition from novice crimefighter to Dark Knight. These globe-spanning adventures pit Batman against the fearsome Scarecrow the freakish Killer Croc and the unerring marksman Deadshot. Using an arsenal of high-tech gadgetry from Wayne Industries Batman s ethical boundaries exist only where he chooses to place them leaving some fearful of his power. The sharp storytelling complemented by stylish art from some of the world s most visionary animators masterfully depicts the blurred lines of Batman as man myth and legend.
It’s being reported that Warner Bros. is in close talks with DC Comics and some of its creators on the direction the movie adaptations of DC characters should take.
“While we are not going to go into the specifics of the meetings, we’re constantly looking at how best to exploit the DC Comics characters and properties. DC is an incredibly valuable asset to Warner Bros. and plays an important role across the entire studio by providing development and franchise opportunities for all media, including films, television, home entertainment, animation, consumer products, video games and digital platforms.”
Well, duh…
The success of Iron Man from Marvel and the less than stellar performance from Superman Returns appears to have finally gotten the company to stop mucking around with franchises that could net them billions of dollars if handled correctly. Batman and Robin anyone?
Even though DC Comics brings in a nice chunk of change to Warner Bros. bottom line, it is nothing more than a drop in the bucket. So I’m really hopeful Warner execs listen to DC instead of forcing DC to conform to some wild hair idea of a screenwriter looking to make a name for himself.
What could this mean in the long run? For one, it could mean a delay in the release of new DC based movies as the studios retool to combat the success of the House of Ideas, and perhaps - just perhaps, Warner will finally get that Justice League movie off the ground.
Of course the success of The Dark Knight in a few weeks could have the Warner execs thinking they know what is best, thus screwing up all talks.
Wendy and Richard Pini have teamed up with Warner Bros. to bring their long running indie comic Elfquest to the silver screen. The film will be written by Rawson Thurber, who will also direct and produce.
The original comic, which the Pinis initially self-published starting in 1978, followed a tribe of elves known as the Wolfriders in their attempts to survive and link with other dispersed elves on an Earth-like planet with two moons while on the lookout for tribes of humans and trolls, both of which acted as allies and enemies.
There have been multiple attampts to make the series a movie in the past and all have fallen through. Interestingly, no format has been determined yet, meaning this could be live action, 3D CG, or 2D animated.
