The articles and stories coming out of the San Diego Comic Con regarding the upcoming DC Universe Online MMO (Massive Multiplayer Online) Game, haven’t been very detailed, but here’s what we know so far…
Electronic Arts has announced its upcoming Mirror’s Edge video game is getting turned into a comic book from DC’s Wildstorm. This is quite the change from what seems to be the norm of having comic books turned into games and movies.
Mirror’s Edge the comic combines the talents of writer and story designer Rhianna Pratchett with artist Matthew Dow Smith. Pratchett is also wrote the script for the game, so everything is canon. The six-part comic series will introduce readers to Faith and her fellow ‘Runners’ – a “network of couriers who use acrobatic moves to avoid being detected as they traffic packages across a network of rooftops and aerial skyways.”
If you are at the show, EA and DC are distributing the first issue at the DC booth.
Looks like Warner Bros. is going all out in the cranking up the hype machine and tie-ins for next year’s Watchmen movie. The company’s interactive division has announced at least two Watchmen inspired games that tie to the movie.
The videogames based on WATCHMEN will go beyond the film and delve into the characters, rivalries and challenges in a mature action-brawler. The game provides gamers with visceral superhero combat as urban vigilantes Rorschach and Nite Owl.
The game will be available for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Windows PCs in 2009. What’s interesting about this game announcement is the game will be downloadable, and will also be an episodic game. Does that mean you complete levels to move on to the next download or what?
WBIE execs said that by producing shorter downloadable games, rather than a full-priced disc version, they’ll have more flexibility to produce high-quality titles on a tight production schedule of just more than a year.
The game has been slowing, but finally gamers got a look at Jim Lee’s DC Universe Online game. While it is a MMO (Massive Multiplayer Online) game, the trailer below only shows NPC heroes and villains duking it out. If this game has the scope and grandeur of World of Warcraft, then I’m sold.

I haven’t been a big fan of the Mortal Kombat series since the mid-90s, and I’m pretty sure I’m going to give this game a pass as well. Anyone eagerly anticipating this?
I love seeing Batman taking down Sub-Zero as only MidWay can do.

LEGO+Batman+videogame=LOVE
Variety is reporting the Street Fighter videogame is set to make another appearance on the silver screen. One would think the horrible failure that was the Jean-Claude Van Damme Street Fighter (1994) would be a hint to proceed cautiously with any other film in the franchise.
Instead of following te Jean Claude character, this script, penned by Justin Marks focuses on female fighter Chun Li on a campaign for justice. Justin Marks is also penning the Voltron movie for New Regency, Super Max and He-Man for Warner Bros.
Street Fighter is set to go into production in 2008 with 20th Century Fox set up as the distributor.
Oh man, first it was Lego Star Wars, then Lego Batman, now Lego and LucasArts are teaming up for Lego Indiana Jones: The Videogame.
The game will be a tounge-in-cheek as players take on the role of Indiana Jones as he whips his way through the three movies.
Way back in 1995 or so, when Lego released it’s Adventure series, I posted how cool it would be to have actual Indiana Jones playsets. Well it looks like 12 years of waiting is finally paying off as Lego and Lucasfilm have announced we’ll get Indiana Jones playsets in January 2008.
Gamemaker Ubisoft has announced it has acquired the rights to turn the NBC series Heroes into a video game.
The long-in-the-works deal gives Ubisoft the rights to build a third-person superhero action game that brings the series characters, locations and story lines to next-generation game consoles and the PC. The untitled game could be in stores as soon as late 2008.
This will be an ensemble game instead of following the adventures of one character. More information is sure to come out during the Heroes Panel at the San Diego Comic-Con.
“From Day 1 we’ve all been thinking about the game,” said “Heroes” co-executive producer Jesse Alexander, who first hinted about the game during an online podcast in May. “All along we’ve been writing some of our stories in ways they can tie into the eventual video game.”
While this sounds cool, Heroes and NBC are really pushing the boundary of Heroes overload. Already we have a spin-off series coming during the 2008 off-season, web sites, mobile gaming, and more. If Kring and company are not careful with their storytelling and franchise, audiences and fans could quickly tire of the in-your-face marketing.
Dynamite Entertainment has done it again by obtaining another hot property. Teaming up with Pandemic Studios, Dynamite Entertainment will be creating comic books based on the Mercenaries video games. The series will be written by Brian Reed, with interior art by Edgar Salazar, and covers by Michael Turner.
In a prepared statement Dynamite’s Nick Barrucci said, “Writer Brian Reed is blowing comics fans away with his work on New Avengers: Illuminati, Ms. Marvel and Red Sonja, so you can expect more of the same incredible action-packed storylines and intrigue from him on Mercenaries.”
There will be some cross promotion between the two industries as Pandemic will be hyping the 800 Comic Shop Locater Service, while Dynamite will pimp the upcoming Mercenaries 2: World in Flames video game.
Fans of Lego Batman and video games have a reason to rejoice as Warner Bros and TT Games will bring LEGO Batman: The Videogame to consoles and the PC in 2008. Judging from the press release sent out by the company, this game will be similar to the LEGO Star Wars games that have shot up the charts.
“Batman spans several generations as one of the most popular DC Super Heroes, and LEGO BATMAN will appeal to several generations of gamers who grew up idolizing the Dark Knight and playing with LEGO toys,” said Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President, Development and Production, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “Working with TT Games, we are confident they will continue their LEGO games’ success with this title, and we will expand our publishing endeavors with the introduction of the LEGO BATMAN franchise.”
The LEGO BATMAN: THE VIDEOGAME story unfolds with Batman’s greatest foes escaping from Arkham Asylum and creating mayhem throughout Gotham City. Tracking criminals, including The Joker and The Penguin, players will utilize Batman’s gadgets as well as build and operate fantastic vehicles in one or two player cooperative gameplay.
While it may not be the high graphic, high intensity game players might expect, I have a feeling this game will sell like hotcakes.

The Spider-Man III video game takes you below the streets of New York as you battle Venom, Sandman, and more. Looks pretty awesome to me, although I really wonder if subway tunnels and sewers are that big.

Captain America may be dead (for now) but you can relive his adventures over and over again through that popular medium video games. Since 1987 Captain America has been duking it out with villians across the Marvel Universe. While some of the games may seem REALLY bad by today’s standards, I remember some of these when they first came out and “marvel”ed at how cool they were.
Marvel has created a retrospective of Captain America related games through the ages, and here are a peek at a few.

I’m a big fan of The Darkness comic, it’s freaky, spooky, and thrilling all at the same time. Imagine how cool it would be to play a Darkness video game. Well wait no longer; 2K Games has released gameplay footage that should have you wet for release day.

Warner Bros. has announced the Justice League Heroes game now has a MySpace page to capitalize on the whole social networking/viral marketing fad. In addition to screen shots and images for the game, Warner has posted the game trailer as well.
