Atari has announced that Champions Online is now available in stores in North America today, and will hit Europe on September 4, 2009.  While the Windows PC version is available today, there looks to be a bit of hiccup with the Xbox 360 version according to VG247.  It appears Microsoft and Cryptic are trying to figure out how to implement the subscriber fee on Xbox LIVE, which already has a monthly fee tacked onto it.

For those who are looking forward to the experience on the PC, today is the day.

Champions Online brings epic heroism back to the MMORPG genre with depth that will certainly challenge the most experienced online gamers, while its fast paced action promises to engage new entrants to the online superhero universe.  Enter a world where the diabolical genius Dr. Destroyer has returned to wreak havoc.  After he single-handedly destroyed the city of Detroit, many thought he had perished in the colossal explosion, but he is back to inflict his evil plans on the unsuspecting world. Join with Defender and the legendary Champions to stop Dr. Destroyer and his minions in an ultimate showdown of good versus evil.

“Champions Online is a great addition to Atari’s line-up,” said John Needham, CEO of Cryptic Studios in a prepared statement.  “After considerable anticipation and excitement, we are thrilled to present Champions to fans and gamers worldwide, and look forward to seeing what players create with the game’s limitless customization options. We are already hard at work developing new content and updates that will expand the Champions Online world even further.”

Yeah, I know what you’re thinking… stop it.

Universal Pictures may have found a new director for the Bioshock videogame movie adaptation in the form of Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.  Gore Verbinski stepped down from the Take-Two Interactive flick as the director, but is still on board as the producer.

Verbinski opted out of directing because the studio’s budget plan for the film has been revamped to lense abroad in order to take advantage of tax credits and favorable exchange rates.

Verbinski couldn’t do an overseas shoot due to other film projects he is currently involved in.  On the plus side, fans of 28 Weeks Later, know Fresnadillo can deliver an action packed and creepy story, so the pairing of new director and Bioshock should be perfect.

Still no word on a potential release date, as Universal is still mucking about with the budget, which had climbed to $160 million before Verbinski stepped aside as director.

Quite a different look of Quinn, don’t you think?

Lots of violence in this clip, so beware.

The articles and stories coming out of the San Diego Comic Con regarding the upcoming DC Universe Online MMO (Massive Multiplayer Online) Game, haven’t been very detailed, but here’s what we know so far…

Electronic Arts has announced its upcoming Mirror’s Edge video game is getting turned into a comic book from DC’s Wildstorm.  This is quite the change from what seems to be the norm of having comic books turned into games and movies.

Mirror’s Edge the comic combines the talents of writer and story designer Rhianna Pratchett with artist Matthew Dow Smith. Pratchett is also wrote the script for the game, so everything is canon. The six-part comic series will introduce readers to Faith and her fellow ‘Runners’ – a “network of couriers who use acrobatic moves to avoid being detected as they traffic packages across a network of rooftops and aerial skyways.”

If you are at the show, EA and DC are distributing the first issue at the DC booth.

Looks like Warner Bros. is going all out in the cranking up the hype machine and tie-ins for next year’s Watchmen movie.  The company’s interactive division has announced at least two Watchmen inspired games that tie to the movie.

The videogames based on WATCHMEN will go beyond the film and delve into the characters, rivalries and challenges in a mature action-brawler. The game provides gamers with visceral superhero combat as urban vigilantes Rorschach and Nite Owl.

The game will be available for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Windows PCs in 2009.  What’s interesting about this game announcement is the game will be downloadable, and will also be an episodic game.  Does that mean you complete levels to move on to the next download or what?

WBIE execs said that by producing shorter downloadable games, rather than a full-priced disc version, they’ll have more flexibility to produce high-quality titles on a tight production schedule of just more than a year.

The game has been slowing, but finally gamers got a look at Jim Lee’s DC Universe Online game.  While it is a MMO (Massive Multiplayer Online) game, the trailer below only shows NPC heroes and villains duking it out.  If this game has the scope and grandeur of World of Warcraft, then I’m sold.

Another behind the scenes trailer after the jump.

The trailer for the upcoming game has hit the Interwebnets.

I haven’t been a big fan of the Mortal Kombat series since the mid-90s, and I’m pretty sure I’m going to give this game a pass as well.  Anyone eagerly anticipating this?

I love seeing Batman taking down Sub-Zero as only MidWay can do.

I really, really hope this is a kick-ass game and not a toned down kid friendly game that sucks the life out of both Mortal Kombat and the DCU

Here’s the latest trailer/commercial for the upcoming Lego Batman video game.
