Marvel Unveils Turner Hulk Covers

Thursday, August 14th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

Hulk_07_TurnerVariantPICON.jpg

Marvel has unveiled the variant covers to the Hulk #6 and #7 done by the late great Michael Turner.

“Living in a world without Mike is something I could never imagine,” said Hulk scribe Jeph Loeb. “He was the greatest guy. The. Greatest.  I wanted some way to share my love of his artwork and at the same time give something to the fans — who were more important to Mike than anyone can imagine — and spoke to Marvel about doing these covers.  They are pieces Mike did of the Green Hulk (one as a gift to Frank Mastromauro)and Peter Steigerwald of Aspen Comics did the recoloring and remastering.  It was terribly important to me that Peter and Aspen got to be part of this as well.  They are a celebration of Mike’s enormous talent and in turn, his life.  Enjoy.”

Hulk_05_SecondPrintingPicon.jpg

Thor and the Red Hulk got into it in Hulk #5, and to make sure everyone has a chance to get their hands on the sold out issue (at the distributor level), Marvel is going back to press with a new cover of the Jeph Loeb series.

“Five issues.  Five sold out.  And the second printings too!” said Loeb. “I’ll have to tell McGuinness’ kids to stop buying so many copies!  Seriously though, I gotta thank Warren Simons and the entire Thor crew who were so helpful at getting the God of Thunder to guest star in this issue.  And rest assured, Thor vs. Red Hulk — the Grudge Match isn’t far behind.  All of this builds to next issue when Ol’ Greenskin and the Rulk finally have it out — and I can promise you, only one of them walks away!”

More Wolverine Printings on the Way

Thursday, August 7th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

Wolverine_66_Picon.jpg

The Old Man Logan story continues int he pages of Wolverine, and has done well enough to sell out multiple times.  Marvel has announced Wolverine #66 is heading back for a third printing, while Wolverine #67 will get a second printing treatment.

Hawkeye may be blind but he’s still just as dangerous as he was 50 some odd years ago. Logan claims he’s broken and Clint is doing all he can to get him to pop the claws. What will it take to “un-break” his spirit? Curious to where the Spider-Buggy came from? Be sure to check out Wolverine #67 Second Printing Variant for the all the answers!

I’m digging the panel featuring people worshiping the fallen Thor hammer.

UncannyX_Men_500_SecondPrinting.jpg

The 500th issue of the Uncanny X-Men received a decent review on the Major Spoilers Podcast, and was mocked by StevieCool over in the Major Spoilers Forum, both of which undoubtedly had an impact in the issue selling out at the distributor level (or at least that is what we are going to proclaim here, even if only three of you were influenced by our ramblings).

Marvel is rewarding everyone else with a chance to nab issue #500 again with a second printing featuring interior art by Greg Land.  The second printing, all $3.99 worth, arrives September 3, 2008.
