Take what you know, and reboot it by turning it on its ear. Then when things get a little long in the tooth, send a wave of water in to cleanse the palette, and start anew again. But is the newer actually better? Six months later, and Spider-Man’s life is still all topsy-turvy.

Marvel’s Ultimate (Comics) Spider-Man #2 has sold out at the distributor level, which means the teenage web slinger is going back to print with the variant cover you see above. The Brian Michael Bendis penned reprint arrives October 14, 2009 for $3.99.
Even though Marvel changed it’s Ultimate line to Ultimate Comics, and still printed the title banner to read Ultimate Spider-Man, both Ultimate (Comics) Spider-Man #1 and Ultimate (Comics) Avengers #1 have sold out at the distributor level, and are headed back to press.

Magneto’s Ultimatum wave swept over New York City destroying much of the city and killing millions of citizens world wide. Fortunately, Peter Parker (a.k.a. Spider-Man) survived. As Ultimate (Comics) Spider-Man reboots with issue one, six months have passed in the Ultimate (Comics) universe, and things have changed…kinda.

Is this the end of Ultimate Spider-Man?
I don’t want to give the answer away too early in the review, because 1) I want you to click on the More link, and 2) it’s pretty tacky to talk about the end before all the other goodness is covered.
Somehow I totally missed out on Ultimatum: Spider-Man #1 when it was released last week, but the good news is I still have a chance to pick up the second printing, when it arrives on July 22, 2009. So says Marvel in an announcement that the title is going back to press following a sell out at the distributor level.
The end of the Ultimate Universe is upon us! Spider-Man has vanished, presumed dead amongst the wreckage of Dr. Strange’s home. How will his closest of kin deal with his disappearance? The Ultimate Spider-Man All Stars of award-winners Brian Michael Bendis, Mark Bagley and Stuart Immonen deliver a powerful story of a city mourning its friendly neighborhood protector. Ultimatum: Spider-Man Requiem #1 Second Printing Variant features the interior art of Immonen on a new wraparound cover!
Or – This Just In…Ultimate Spider-Man is Dead?

For 133 issue, Brian Michael Bendis has consistently cranked out Spider-Man stories that allowed many non-Marvel readers to get into one of the biggest and most recognized heroes in the world. Sadly, we’ve reached the end of the Ultimate Spider-Man series – at least in this incarnation, and it doesn’t look good for the wall crawler.
Purple explosions in the middle of a watery hell

Even though we haven’t heard much about it lately, all hell is still breaking loose in Marvel’s Ultimate line. For Spider-Man it’s a never ending trial to try and plug the leaking damn, and the Hulk’s inadvertent smashing of the Sanctum Sanctorum’s great seal doesn’t help matters.
Seems like forever since the last Ultimatum issue, and we still have to wait until the end of May to see what happens.

Let’s kill Daredevil this time…

The carnage resulting from Magneto’s attack on the world continues to tear New York City apart as hero and civilian alike try and make sense of what is going on. Brian Michael Bendis continues to maim and kill those Ultimate characters we’ve come to enjoy, and while there may be some gut reaction from readers over these changes, no one is more affected than Peter Parker. At least he makes a friend.

Here’s our bullet list of items from the Marvel panels held on Saturday at the New York Comic Con. The fate of Ultimate Spider-Man and the rest of the Ultimate Universe is revealed after the jump.
If Parker Won’t Go to Ultimatum, Then Ultimatum Will Come to Him

Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! WOW! While I may not like what is happening to Marvel’s Ultimate Universe – namely killing everyone and everything – Marvel has done one thing in the Ultimatum event that DC didn’t do in Final Crisis; creating the feeling of an epic disaster where the fate of the world is at stake.

February 18, 2009 will wrap up the Ultimate X-Men series with issue #100. The same day sees the end of Ultimate Fantastic Four which had a mildly interesting 60-issue run. The end of the series ties directly into Ultimatum from Marvel, which seems to be hell-bent on destroying the Ultimate Universe that spawned the whole Marvel Zomibe craze. I’ve done a little digging, but after the last round of solicitations from Marvel, I’m more convinced all of Ultimate U is ending when Ultimate Spider-Man reaches issue #133.

Despite the Ultimatum banner, there’s no Ultimatum story here (sorta)

If readers were wondering how Ultimate Spider-Man would make the transition from the Return of Gwen Stacy story last issue, into the Ultimatum story line this issue, fear not, as nothing that takes place in Ultimatum appears in this issue. Instead, this issue serves as a lead up to the crossover series, even though the crossover series has already begun. Ah mega-events! You gotta love ‘em!

If you’ve read the latest issue of Ultimatum #2, you know that someone else on the list got his neck broken on the last page. Let’s see, Wasp starts with W, and what letter comes after W?
The $3.99 issue is still on sale, and is worth checking out if you are even remotely familiar with the characters in the Ultimate Universe.
