Transformers The Movie Sneak Peek

Monday, November 20th, 2006--by Stephen Schleicher

Michael Bay has posted a QuickTime movie hyping the heck out of this summer’s Transformers flick.  Lots of explosions, but not a transforming robot in sight.  Still pretty cool to watch.

Transformers the Sequel

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006--by Stephen Schleicher

While it is no surprise that many movie franchises today are set up in three picture deals (Spider-Man for example), it is interesting the studios would sign a three picture deal on Transformers based on fan love.
According to an interview with Shia LaBeouf, who plays Sam Witwicky, the thespian is under contract for Transformers 2 and 3.

It’s pretty much a sure bet your audience will follow you to Transformers.

Shia LaBeouf: “Yeah. The biggest movie in Hollywood. You don’t get bigger than $250 million robots blowing up the world. I don’t plan on making any other – I mean, I’m going to do Transformers 2 and 3 so that will be my Lord of the Rings.”

You’ve signed on to 2 and 3?

Shia LaBeouf: “Yeah, I’m gonna do it. That will be my Lord of the Rings and then I’ll just make indies the rest of my time, for a long time. Elijah [Wood’s] straight.

The movie will be released this summer with a reported $250 million budget.

Slow Day = Transformer Pic

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006--by Stephen Schleicher

It’s a quiet day in the world of comics.  Matthew has posted a review, and I’m working on one now, but other than a few tidbits here and there, the net and the comic companies are pretty much dead.  So to spice things up, here’s a shot of Optimus Prime in rig mode from the new Transformers movie.

Frank Welker Still in the Running

Monday, October 9th, 2006--by Stephen Schleicher

According to an interview with Tom DeSanto, Producer on the Transformers movie, Frank Welker is still in the running to play the voice role of Megatron in the upcoming flick.  Fans of the cartoon series will be super happy if this happens, as the original duo (Welker and Peter Cullen) will be reunited in this tale of good versus evil - all in tranforming robot fun!

While Producer DeSanto is saying Welker is still in the running, it is interesting to see that IMDB.com has already cast him in the role.

Peter Cullen Interview

Monday, October 2nd, 2006--by Stephen Schleicher

peter_cullen_140.jpgUSA Today has an interview with Peter Cullen, voice of Optimus Prime. As many of us already know, Cullen was not the first choice to play the part.

I (heard) the movie was going to be done, and then I heard rumors that big actors … were being considered for the role. And that’s when I found out about (my) fan base — I was very, very surprised. That’s when I started thinking, “Gee whiz, I hope these guys get what they want. Then I started saying, “Boy, I hope I get it, too!”

I finally got a call from my agent. I met with Michael Bay, the director, and I didn’t hear anything for a little while. And then when I met with Michael again. I guess he had a few feelings that he wanted to rectify in his own mind, and then go over a couple of scenes, and then he realized that, yes, I could in fact act.

I for one am glad Bay and company finally came to their senses and listened to the fans for a change.  Now let’s just hope the rest of the movie doesn’t stink and is a fan boys wet dream.

Optimus_Drawn.jpgIn today’s Yahoo live web chat, the main characters for the Transformers movie were announced.

Autobots

  • Optimus Prime
  • Bumblebee
  • Jazz
  • Ratchet
  • Ironhide

Decepticons

  • Megatron
  • Starscream
  • Brawl
  • Bonecrusher
  • Skorpinok
  • Frenzy

  • Barricade

The only actor confirmed to do a voice of the transforming robots is Peter Cullen, who will be reprising his role as Optimus Prime. Frank Welker, the original voice of Megatron is rumored to be cast in the film as well.

As far as the images go, the concept sketch above is an unconfirmed authentic rendering of Optimus Prime. However, considering the following images have been confirmed by Paramount as the real deal, the concept sketch looks pretty right on.

Wanna See a Transformer?

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006--by Stephen Schleicher

transformerstoryboard.jpgThe other day Access Hollywood ran a piece on the new Transformers movie that included quick shots of animatics (animated storyboards) to aid Michael Bay and crew when shooting the movie. Ain’t It Cool News has a short clip of the video, and if you look closely you can see a very blurry Transformer running around the screen. The QuickTime movie isn’t as large as other sites have lead you to believe (1.65Mb), but the clip is very short. Your best bet is to foward one frame at a time. Click the link for the goodness.

Transformers Teaser Posters

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006--by Stephen Schleicher

Here is a look at the two mini teaser posters handed out at the SDCC.  Nothing too spectacular here folks, at least Michael Bay hasn’t messed with the logos.  Still, “Their War. Our War”? I was half expecting “More Than Meets The Eye”.

Optimus Prime Has a Voice

Sunday, July 23rd, 2006--by Stephen Schleicher

It was announced both on G4 Comic Con Live show and by Michael Bay that Optimus Prime’s voice for the upcoming Transformers movie has been cast. Fans will be happy to know that Peter Cullen, who voiced Optimus Prime during the 80s cartoon, will be reprising his role for the feature flick.

Mum was the word when producers were questioned on the voice of Megatron, but if Cullen is a clue, we may get Frank Welker back as well. Word on the street is Welker has sent in an audition tape for the role of Megatron. In the animated series Cullen also voiced the characters Ironhide, Slugslinger, Streetwise, Wingspan, and Nightstick.
