The show has been off the air for a couple of years, but that hasn’t stopped Mattel from continuing to crank out action figures based on the series. The next in line to get the ‘tooned up treatment is none other than the Doom Patrol, and the figures look mighty sweet.
Perhaps not as well-known as the Justice League, the Doom Patrol stands ready to defend the world from those who would destroy it, and now, for the first time ever, it’s offered in the fan-favorite JLU style! This 4-pack includes the essential characters Negative Man, Robot Man, Elasti-Girl, and Mento, all making their debut in action figure form. Available only at MattyCollector.com!
The set is not available for pre-order yet, but it does look like you can order up to 10 sets, when they are available for sale. At $30.00 a set, you can bet there will be those buying their full allotment to sell on eBay.

Take 40,000 LEGO bricks, and a bit of time stacking, gluing, and shaping, and you’ve got LEGO Mario. The LEGO creation was unveiled at the LEGO World Fair in October, and sold for $5,000 on eBay. The money didn’t go to the Danish company, but rather the Ronald McDonald House Charity in The Netherlands.
For the record, though Mario is close to six feet tall, he only weighs 110 pounds. The LEGO statues usually go for big money, but I hear if you know the right person at your local Toys R Us, you might catch a break.
Those who really want to be completists when it comes to their action figure line, will want to pick up the Adora figure when it becomes availabe in January 2010. Mattel posted several images of the figure over on the Mattycollector Facebook page.
Mattel is showing off the battle damaged He-Man variant, that allows players to change the chest plate to reflect any damage the protector of Eternia may suffer.
This toy does not feature a spinning tumble, but does include all three chest plates – standard, one smash, and my personal favorite, two smashes!
He also comes with his heroic Battle Axe just like in the famous painting of Battle Armor He-Man on top of Battle Cat. (anyone have the art book?)
Battle Armor He-Man goes on sale January 15, only at the MattCollector.com website.
If you are a fan of the NECA Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle action figures, which were modeled after the original Eastman and Laird comics, you’re probably going to be a little upset over the news that Playmates will now be the exclusive creator of TMNT toys. It all has to do with a new deal struck between Playmates and Nickelodeon, the new owners of the sewer dwelling ninjas.
“We are very excited about our new partnership with Nickelodeon, which broadens the scope of creative inspiration for Playmates,” said Lou Novak, President, Playmates Toys. We are proud to continue our long-standing commitment of making innovative, fun toys based on the beloved Turtles that have entertained generations of kids around the world,” said Lou Novak, President, Playmates Toys.
“Our partnership with Playmates Toys adds another layer of excitement for us as we build upon the Turtles’ great, funny stories and characters which have withstood the test of time,” said Leigh Anne Brodsky, President, Nickelodeon & Viacom Consumer Products. “The characters have resonated around the world for 25 years, and the toys based on them are part of pop culture and continue to be relevant to today’s kids.”
I’m not a huge fan of TMNT action figures, but I did really like those NECA figures, which are probably now going for thousands of dollars on eBay right now. What about the rest of you? Is this good news, or bad?

Japanese character Domo is taking the United States by storm. First appearing in the U.S. specialty marketplace as an import item, the fuzzy, sharp-toothed cartoon character has become quite visible as the star of a program of merchandise, food tie-ins, animation, apparel, and more.
Currently, Domo is the centerpiece of a chainwide promotion at 7-Eleven, with his own Slurpee flavor in collector cups. A component of this rollout is a group of four custom Domo Qee toys in unique packaging, including a Slurpee cup, and this assortment has flown off of shelves all over the country!
In addition to showing off the Wave 12 series of DC Universe characters, Mattel also unveiled the variant figures for the series.
Mattel has unveiled a few new shots of the chase variant Deadman action figure from the DC Universe Classics wave 11 collection. The ghostly figure of Boston Brand has semi-transparent hands and feet that glow in the dark. If you’re going to scare the crap out of your young one, this figure just might do the trick.

Cool!

Triad Toys has announced it has acquired licensing for the Zorro brand. From the company’s other line of action figures, a potential Zorro figure will be highly articulated with a lot of detail. Not a lot of information is available at this time, but we did discover the Deja Toris action figure from the Princess of Mars line, and if you are into girl action figures, you can see those pictures after the jump.

Yes, it’s true – Art Asylum has put its own spin on Marvel’s Secret Wars, by unveiling a Toys “R” Us exclusive Minimate set that arrives in November. Take the jump for the first four figures to be released, plus a closer look at that very cool promo poster.

We’re dumping a lot of DC Universe action figure news on you today – we probably would have been able to space them apart if Mattel would actually send us an email once in a while (hint, hint). Anyway, according to the Matty Collector Facebook page, the latest wave of Crisis figures goes on sale today (August 17, 2009) that feature Barry Allen, the Psycho Pirate, Monitor, and Supergirl ready for her closeup.

The Mattel DCU Classics line has drained by wallet over the last couple of years, and for good reason – these figures have great articulation, and the desire to end up with a build a figure is pretty appealing too. Unfortunately, Mattel has also released a line of figures that don’t contain the Collect-and-Connect figures, and that may cause confusion among toy fans.
Wave 10 of the DCU Classics line has been introduced that features another Batman figure (the first one appeared in the original C-n-C assortment), but the good thing is, you don’t have to get the Batman figure if you don’t want to as it only contains the stand for the Collect and Connect Imperiex figure.
Take the jump for a look at all the figures. My bet is Powergirl is going to be a hot item.
