Or – “Hey, Vent! You Ready To Move Out?”

When you read monthly comic books the way that I do, often times you get to the point where you feel like you know what’s coming, when every title feels like you’ve read it before. On the other hand, you have the odd experience where you read a title or issues that you KNOW you’ve read before, but you cannot for the life of you remember how it’s supposed to end. With over a hundred monthly titles coming out, sometimes you need to play catchup, you need to go where everybody knows your name to the land of the Rapid Fire Revieeeeewwww!
Or – “Sir, I Protest! I Am NOT A Merry Man!!!”

Once again, we’ve come to the situation where Stately Spoilers Manor contains far more comics than there are days to review ‘em, leading once again unto the Final Frontier… NUQNEH – NOOKNEHH! Phasers on summarize!
While not a huge crossover event, Secret Warriors #7 and #8 are crossing over into issues #135 and #136 of the Thunderbolts series as Nick Fury takes the fight to Norman Osborn.
Editor Bill Rosemann explained, “Nick Fury vs. Norman Osborn? The Secret Warriors vs. the Thunderbolts? Andy Diggle and Jonathan Hickman trying to one-up one another? Miguel Sepulveda and Alessandro Vitti out for blood? Something tells me this is going to get messy”
Or – “We Hold These Comics To Be Self-Evident…”

Today is American Independence Day, commonly referred to as July 4th, as it takes place on the 4th of July, hence the name, and that’s why the song is called Alice’s Restaurant… To all the faithful Spoilerites of the United States, Happy 4th of July. For those of you who are from elsewhere, sorry about all the hegemony and stuff. Either way, it’s time for another bout of our Rapid Fire Reviews, bite-sized chunks of comics that I either couldn’t write three paragraphs about, or ran out of time to cover. Give us your tired, your poorly drawn, your huddled masses of comics, yearning to be bagged in mylar…

The Mighty Avengers and the Thunderbolts meat Riplclaw and the rest of Cyberforce. It all happens next week in Top Cow’s Fusion #1.
Take the jump for a sneak peek.

Yup, another announcement from Marvel about one of its comics selling out at the distributor level (although copies may still be available at the retail level). This time it is Andy Diggle’s Thunderbolts #129, which is the third Thunderbolts issue in a row that has sold out.
The $2.99 reprint arrives April 1, 2009 and features a variant cover that uses the interior artwork by Roberto De La Torre.

The four part Magnum Opus storyline from Marvel Comics will jump between Deadpool and Thunderbolts, and promises (according to Marvel) to be the fight of 2009! The company has sent Major Spoilers a sneak peek of Deadpool #8 that kicks off the battle royale that arrives March 4, 2009.

Marvel has announced Thunderbolt #128 has sold out at the distributor level and is heading back to press featuring the above variant cover by Roberto De La Torre. The new printing arrives February 18, 2009 for $2.99.
Or – “What Happens When I Continue To Fall Behind On Everything?”

What’s the scraping noise? Looks like the raccoon done busted out the heavy weapons, which means it’s time for another look at some of the comics that were too esoteric, too weird, or too numerous to look at individually: RAPID FIRE REVIEWS! BRAKKA BRAKKA BRAKKA! Make sure that the release lever is elevated, and that the debris shield is down, put on your safety goggles and PREpare… to REview!
Or – “I Honestly Have NO Idea When These Books Came Out…”

Welcome back, my friends, to the show that never ends… much like the harassment you get when you wear the pizza suit and dance on the corner in front of a Cici’s. Even when you’re cutting back on comics purchases, like I have, the urge to review more comics than there is time to review them is strong. Makes me with there were 8 days a week, actually. Thus, we at Stately Spoilers Manor have created this handy, dandy method of touching upon things going on at Penny Lane, down the long and winding road, even across the universe. So why don’t we do it in the road, throw some Norwegian wood on the fire, cause it’s a helter skelter ride through a day in the life of comics!

What happens to Marvel heroes that didn’t register or have had their registration revoked? You are about to find out in Moon Knight #21, and it doesn’t look good for Marc Spector, especially when the Thunderbolts show up.
Marvel has sent Major Spoilers a sneak peek of the issue, that not only features art by Mark Texeira, but als a variant Marvel Apes cover! YES MORE MONKEYS!
Or – “There Is NO Escape From Ellis! You Will Be Assimilated!”

I was going to make the Sonny Corleone joke about being “pulled back in,” but I think I’ve leaned on that particular chestnut a bit too often. Quitting Thunderbolts has been a lot like quitting smoking for me, repeatedly enjoying that “last one” before giving up the habit altogether. The problem is that the last one tends to be an enticing thing, and before long, you feel the urge to pick up another, and another, and by that time you’re realizing that you haven’t quit at all, and have to rebuild your resolve from the ground up… So, the question becomes, if it’s all going to boil down to a matter of willpower, why did I ever drop the book in the first place?
Or – “Radioactive Man, Radioactive Man, Doing The Things An Active Radio Can…”

When Warren Ellis and Mike Deodato took over Thunderbolts last year, I had my reservations. After all, most of the original cast was going to be gone, replaced with characters who seemed chosen for their popularity, and Mike’s art has done little to nothing for me since his Wonder Woman stint (during which Wizard tried to force him down my throat as the ‘Best Thing Ever.’) Now, don’t get me wrong, the series started off strong, with amazing interplay between the characters, some entertaining Norman Osborn bastardry, and muted cheesecakeyness in the art. But then the shipping delays began, and then we started seeing the one-shot filler issues by other teams (of varying quality) and I was wavering on dropping the series entirely. Then, this issue came out, and made my decision for me… Wanna know which side I fell on? Click ‘er and weep.

The fallout from Marvel’s Civil War forced every power to register or be considered a target for capture. But what happens when the powers come hail from a different country, and they are doing work in foreign lands? That is the question the Thunderbolts face as Radioactive Man (hailing from China), and the Swordsman (all the way from Germany) must head overseas to follow a scientist who has attacked Atlanta.
Marvel has sent Major Spoilers a sneak peek of the one-shot that arrives February 27, 2008.
