What happens when you take Eric Powell’s popular The Goon and turn it into a CGI feature?  Ain’t It Cool News has the first look, and I like what I’m seeing.  If you are going to translate an artist’s style into 3D, it’s always best to follow it as closely as possible.  Click the link to access the super hi-res versions of the image.

goonjonessoda1.jpgWhen you’ve had a really long day, and you come home wanting to down a cold one, what could be better than reaching into your icebox (that’s a refrigerator for you young’uns) and pulling out a cold soda with your favorite Dark Horse character featured on the label.

Dark Horse has announced a deal with Jones Soda to produce a limited edition six-pack featuring Eric Powell’s The Goon and Emily the Strange.  The Goon collection is available now, but only until the first 100 six-packs sell out, with Emily the Strange collection arriving on October 14, 2008.

“This is a really fun way to expose our characters to a whole new market,” says Dark Horse President and founder Mike Richardson. “We have a lot of great ideas on how to make this partnership an exciting one and the flexibility and creativity of the Jones staff make them the perfect company for us to work with. Most importantly, we love the soda!”

goon.jpgDark Horse Entertainment is bringing Eric Powell’s Goon to the big screen as a CG animated movie.

Created by Eric Powell in 1999, the comic follows the adventures of a muscle-bound brawler who claims to be the primary enforcer for a feared mobster. The stories have a paranormal and comedic edge to them and concern ghosts, zombies, mad scientists and “skunk apes.”

While no studio has been signed for distribution, Blur Studios will be doing the CG work.  There’s also no word if this will be an original tale, or an adaptation of one of the existing story arcs.  I personally would vote for Chinatown.

goonchinatown.jpgEric Powell is back on the Goon, and in November fans will get the entire backstory on who is the Goon. The Goon: Chinatown and the Mystery of Mr. Wicker tells the story of the Goon’s formative backstory in a trade paperback.

I put my heart and soul into this book, says Powell. If you people dont buy it and love it . . . well, youre soulless animals. Thanks for crushing my dreams.

The Goon: Chinatown is due November 21 for $19.95.

Eric Powell has been a busy guy, spending a lot of time working on The Goon: Chinatown and the Mystery of Mr. Wicker graphic novel. Dark Horse Comics has announced Powell will return to regular writing and art duties on The Goon series, starting with issue #19.

The brand-new story is the beginning of major upheavals in the Goon universe. The Zombie Priest and his latest abominations continue to plague the streets, but his madness and use of forbidden magic is drawing forces to Lonely Street that he may not be able to control. Plus the Goon comic is now offering 50% more poop jokes than all the Marvel and DC superhero titles combined. Suck on that, X-Men!

The Goon #19 hits stands July 17.
