Sometimes you are lucky in life, and two of your most loved interest crossover.  For the last 18 years, Dark Horse Comics has been giving Star Wars fans a reason to read comics and comic fans a reason to read Star Wars.  This past July, they released another reason in the form of the new series, Star Wars: Invasion.

A little background on the Invasion series: it takes place during the series of prose novels known as The New Jedi Order.  The New Jedi Order (or NJO for short) was a massive series that was comprised of 19 novels. Don’t be afraid though, you don’t need to have read all of them to enjoy this series, although a passing knowledge might help. I am going to refrain from giving much information that from the novels, as the comic may actually be more enjoyable without an in-depth knowledge of the Star Wars Expanded Universe.

On to the review.

We’ve all seen the Hasbro Mighty Muggs based off the Star Wars univers – heck my son has a couple in his room right now – and now you have a chance to win an original Star Wars Mighty Mugg and help out a good cause.  Lucasfilm asked artists, comic book creators, toy designers, and celebrities to create their own Star Wars Mighty Mugg and put them up for auction to help the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Take the jump for a peek at some of the items you can bid on, but you better hurry – the auction ends August 14, 2009.

This is not the first time something like this has been done, and I always get a kick out of a live concert performance matching up with media.  I did something like this with my university orchestra back when I was in college, and have been hooked ever since, so Star Wars getting in on the deal is a win/win for me.

From the Press Release

Star WarsTM: In Concert, a unique multi-media event featuring music from all six of John Williams’ epic Star Wars scores, begins its worldwide arena tour on October 1, 2009 at Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Narrated live by Anthony Daniels (the actor who portrayed C-3PO in all six films), the production features a full symphony orchestra and choir, accompanied by specially edited footage from the films displayed on a three-story-tall, high-definition LED super-screen – one of the largest ever put on tour.  The live music and film elements are synchronized in order to create a full multi-media, one-of-kind Star Wars experience.

Hasbro has announced a contest for Star Wars fans where they can enter for a chance to win $1,000.  The Star Wars: The Clone Wars Diorama Contest kicks off today and runs until September 25, 2009.
