Did you miss the first appearance of Mary Jane Watson on Saturday’s The Spectacular Spider-Man on the Kids’ WB!? Fear not Dear Reader, we have a snap of her debut as well as Mr. Big’s big reveal.
Don’t forget, this weekend on The Kids’ WB! the Rhino makes his debut on The Spectacular Spider-Man. I’m glad the TiVo is still recording this show for me as I’ll want to watch this one to see/hear Clancy Brown in the role of Rhino.
The CW was kind enough to send along a couple of extra shots of Rhino all glammed up.
Clancy Brown has crafted an impressive career within both the mainstream and the fanboy arenas. He has balanced acclaimed performances in the Academy Award nominated “The Shawshank Redemption” and HBO’s “Carnivale” with memorable roles in numerous fanboy classics, including “Highlander,” “Starship Troopers” and “The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai Across the 8th Dimension.” Brown’s lengthy list of animated voiceovers is topped by his quintessential evocation of Lex Luthor in “Superman: The Animated Series,” and “Justice League,” as well as Mr. Freeze in “The Batman” and, of course, as Mr. Krabs in “SpongeBob SquarePants.”
Now you can add a new credit to that ever-expanding animation career as Brown provides the voice of Rhino in “The Spectacular Spider-Man” television series. The episode, entitled “The Invisible Hand,” premieres Saturday, April 12 at 10 a.m. ET/PT on Kids’ WB! on The CW.
Beginning this weekend (Saturday April 12), The Kids’ WB on The CW will broadcast a full hour of The Spectacular Spider-Man animated series. The first half hour of the double dose block will be a repeat airing of older episodes.
The complete schedule through the rest of April and a shot of J.J. getting strung up.
Rhino makes his official appearance this weekend on the Kids’ WB! on the CW. Best of all, Clancy Brown provides the voice for the big guy in a rhino suit.

Here he is beginning to turn. Not much Sandman action going on (take a close look at that sandy fist), but we’ll have more images later this week courtesy of The CW.
If you’ve been watching The Spectacular Spider-Man on the Kids’ WB! you’ve seen Flint Marko foiled time and time again by Peter Parker. This weekend, Marko gets the bump from minor league thug to major league villain.
Take the jump for a peek at the transformation that takes place this weekend.
No, not that shocker, rather the Spider-Man villain who makes his debut on the Spectacular Spider-Man animated series. Jeff Bennett, who you’ve heard on the New Frontier, The Boondocks, the Land Before Time, and other popular animated shows voices the “electrifying” role.
Take the jump for you first look at the villain, and the rundown for the episode.
According to Nielsen Research Media, The Spectacular Spider-Man scored high for a Saturday morning rating time slot.
The premiere episode scored a 1.2/3 household rating, a 20 percent gain over the same time period a year ago, and marked a 25 percent growth in the Kids 2-11 demographic compared to a week previous. Even more interesting is the second episode in the back to back premiere scored a 1.4/5 mark for the 2-11 demographic.
What does all this mean? The first number (1.4) represents the percentage of all televisions in the nation, while the second number (5) is the percentage of all televisions that were on at the time. While these may seem like paltry numbers for a television show, keep in mind this is a Saturday morning time slot when most people are not watching television, meaning this is a great rating for the Kids’ WB! Overall, there was an increase in all demographics compared to the week previous.
“It’s gratifying to see that viewers have gravitated to an outstanding series that exemplifies what Kids’ WB! strives to give its audience: an engaging hero, great villains, amazing action and timely humor,” said Betsy McGowen, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Kids’ WB!
The Lizard makes his debut this weekend in the episode entitled Natural Selection.
Peter Parker and Spider-Man both must learn to own their choices when decisions made by Dr. Curt Connors transform Pete’s mentor into the Lizard.

Check out Dr. Connors turned into the Lizard on this weekend’s The Spectacular Spider-Man on the Kids’ WB! on The CW.
In “Natural Selection,” Peter Parker and Spider-Man both must learn to own their choices when decisions made by Dr. Curt Connors transform Pete’s mentor into The Lizard. The episode is written by Matt Wayne and directed by David Bullock.
Interestingly the voice of Curt Connors/The Lizard is voiced by Dee Bradley Baker, who also voiced the character in the Activision Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro video games.
It only too three issues for the build up and reveal of Connors as the green reptile. The Major Spoilers Podcast Panel discussed the build up to the Lizard last weekend after watching the first two episodes, and while I can understand the need to get the Lizard out there as quickly as possible (The Spectacular Spider-Man has only 13 episodes this season), I kind of wish the build up lasted a bit longer. Perhaps if the first season were devoted to developing the relationship between Peter and Dr. Connors, and the relationship between Dr. Connors and his family, the transformation would be even more tragic. I remember it took quite a while for Harvey Dent to become Two-Face in Batman: The Animated Series, and would like to have seen it here.
Regardless, the third installment of The Spectacular Spider-Man airs Saturday, March 15 at 10:00 AM.
In this week’s Major Spoilers Podcast, Stephen, Bryan, and Rodrigo review the first two episodes of The Spectacular Spider-Man. There we speculate how long it will take for the Lizard to show up. The answer? Episode Three.

When not doing voice work for such video games as Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, Crispin Freeman makes time to do voice over work for animated features and television shows. You can catch his latest work this weekend on The Spectacular Spider-Man animated series.
