After over fifteen years, Todd McFarlane and Dave Sim’s highly acclaimed collaboration in SPAWN #10 guest-starring CEREBUS returns to print in the upcoming SPAWN ORIGINS COLLECTION: DELUXE EDITION VOL. 1 HC!
“It hasn’t been reprinted since it first came out,” SPAWN #10 writer and CEREBUS creator Dave Sim said. “I’m very glad that’s all over with after 14 years. Todd sent me black and white scans of Spawn 10 which will be published in a Cerebus Miscellany volume someday and, hopefully, Spawn 10 will be included in any and all future collections if the Toddmiester decides to make that official McFarlane policy.”
The SPAWN ORIGINS COLLECTION: DELUXE EDITION VOL. 1 HC features the artwork of Todd McFarlane, which laid the groundwork for the most successful independent comic book ever published. This limited edition hardcover includes classic SPAWN stories written by Sim, Alan Moore, Frank Miller, Grant Morrison and McFarlane himself in one massive slipcase collection. It will mark the first time Sim and McFarlane’s collaboration has seen print since it first appeared in 1994.
SPAWN ORIGINS COLLECTION: DELUXE EDITION VOL. 1 HC (SEP090283), a 620-page full-color hardcover for $100 will be in-stores soon.
A signed and numbered edition (SEP090284) will also be available for $150. Cerebus is ™ and © 2009 Dave Sim.
For the past year, SPAWN: ENDGAME has riveted readers with its game-changing story line featuring the death of Al Simmons and Todd McFarlane’s return to illustrating his seminal creation. In November’s SPAWN #196, ENDGAME concludes with a bang as McFarlane shares art duties with fellow Image Comics founder Rob Liefeld.
Fans of the first Spawn movie, or the original comic book, or just a fan of Todd McFarlane, will get a kick out of the news that McFarlane has started worked on the screenplay for a new Spawn movie.
“The story has been in my head for 7 or 8 years,” McFarlane said. “The movie idea is neither a recap or continuation. It is a standalone story that will be R-rated. Creepy and scary.”
According to SuperHero Hype, the McFarlane is targeting older audiences for this film.

SPAWN, the long-running superhero saga recently relaunched by series creator Todd McFarlane and fellow Image Founder Whilce Portacio, kicks off the second half of its series altering storyline ‘Endgame’ with a distribution-level sell out making way for the upcoming collection.
“Our goal is to slowly build up momentum and the sellout of issue #191 is another indication that we’re accomplishing that goal,” McFarlane said. “With a majority of our single issues out of print, the release of the first Endgame collection couldn’t be more timely.”
Check out these elements from the upcoming Spawn Origins, Volume 1 collection arriving next week. There is a new trade dress, that gives some indication as to the direction all of Image Comics trades will take.

With the sudden death of Al Simmons in the pages of Spawn #185, Todd McFarlane and Whilce Portacio are taking the series in a new direction – or giving us one heck of a swerve. Regardless, the issue sold out as did issue #186, which hit stores last week.
While reprints are on the way, Image Comics is taking Spawn online to MySpace, allowing fans to read issue #185 in its entirety.
“Todd McFarlane Productions is excited to be partnering with Myspace Comics to bring the fans Spawn #185,” McFarlane said. “Myspace Comics is the wave of the new generation. Many fans have turned to this form of modern communication. I hope you enjoy looking at a medium that is challenging how things have been traditionally done.”
You can read the issue online at www.myspace.com/comicbooks

Actually, they sell out in a good way, as the duo’s return to Spawn caused issue #185 to sell out immediately at the distributor level.
“Obviously it’s good news to have the initial issue sell out so quickly, but now the bigger task is to continue that momentum in the issues going forward,” Spawn creator Todd McFarlane said. “As a reminder, the first few issues will be a lot of setup before we kick this into high gear. Each issue isn’t meant to be its own stand-alone book.”
A second printing will arrive in stores soon, with a cover price of $2.95.

If you ever wanted to dive deep into the secrets of Image Comics Spawn, check out Spawn: Book of the Dead from Steve Niles, and David Hine. The tome is 104 pages in length, and arrives December 3, 2008.

This November, The Adventures of Spawn will wrap up the Awaking War storyline written by Jonathan David Goff and illustrated by Khary Randolph.
In ADVENTURES OF SPAWN, Al Simmons, now known as Spawn X, teams up with fellow heroes Omega and Redeemer in the never-ending battle against the forces of Darkness and its vicious leader, Mammon! While ADVENTURES OF SPAWN made its debut online as SPAWN.COM’s very first web comic to coincide with McFarlane Toys’ own toy line (Spawn: Series 30 & 32), this one-shot is the only place to read the story’s conclusion in its entirety.
The 48-page one-shot will sell for $5.99 when it arrives on November 19, 2008.

Image Comics has come through with another sneak peek appearing next week. Take the jump for a look at Spawn #181.

Image has announced two of its founds, Todd McFarlane and Whilce Portacio, will return to Spawn this October. Beginning with issue #185 the title character will return to its roots.
“While I’m very happy with where Spawn has gone, it’s long past time to inject some new blood into the series while also returning to its roots,” said McFarlane. “I feel what Whilce and I are doing with our co-writer, Brian Holguin, combines the old and the new in a way no one would have expected. That’s a claim which gets tossed around quite a bit in the industry, but this one really changes everything.”
More details of the changes will be announced by Image over the next couple of weeks.
