Brainiac Returns to Smallville

Thursday, September 27th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

brainiac.jpg

E! Online is reporting James Marsters will be returning to Smallville this season to reprise his role as Brainiac.

While it’s unclear exactly how James is returning, I can tell you he’s reprising the exact same character, he’s returning to set very soon and his episodes begin airing in January.

I do like the way Braniac was introduced and handled in Smallville, although I still prefer the I’ve come for knowledge and will then destroy your planet Brainiac from Superman: The Animated Series.

And don’t forget the new season of Smallville featuring the introduction of Supergirl airs tonight!

Smallville Season 7 Trailer

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

With all the chaos that occurred in my life last spring, I didn’t have a chance to finish Smallville: Season 6. Now Season 7 is upon us and with Bizarro Tom Welling and the introduction of hottie Laura Vandervoort as Supergirl, you can bet I’m going to be front row center in my home theatre when the it airs.

To get you excited too, “someone” posted the teaser trailer up on YouTube.

Tom Welling in JLA?

Monday, August 27th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

tomwelling.jpgWow, IESB has been doing a ton of research and lead following to get to the bottom of the Justice League of America movie. The latest gossip is the movie will not be all CGI after all, but rather will incorporate motion capture where necessary.

The other big surprise ISEB’s reporters have dug up is that Smallville’s Tom Welling has been approached to don the supertights.

We contacted Tom Welling’s reps over at CAA and were quickly (and I mean quickly!) transferred to the PR department of theatrical releases for comment, we are waiting on an official comment at this time.

But what about the shooting schedule of Smallville that is supposed to go through around April you ask? Word is, the production of Smallville in Vancouver is even willing to work around whatever Welling’s schedule may be in order for their small screen superhero to make the jump to theaters. Or my thought is, maybe they will continue and completely turn the show over to the new girl in town, Kara, aka Supergirl.

As we updated in the Tom Welling article, Supermanhomepage.com is saying Al Gough says no, Welling is not involved in the JLA movie. But, I am telling you, we have triple checked this out and all indications are that Tom Welling in fact is a go on the WB side. I rechecked with my sources and they are all still saying yes, yes Tom Welling, yes Justice League, yes production starts early next year and yes Smallville will have to work around it. Believe me, the IESB will be the first to post a retraction on a story if we are proved wrong, but right now, this is what we are hearing. We have been sitting on the Tom Welling info for almost a week and finally felt we had gathered enough back-up to post it. Currently, we’ve got a lead on who is being looked at for Batman but we need some further info and confirmation before we announce it!

Well, if this is the truth, then why not take the Junior Lifeguard Association from Smallville and put them all in the movie?

Supergirl Slater to Appear on Smallville

Monday, August 6th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

helenslater.jpgVariety is reporting Helen Slater is scheduled to appear in the sixth episode of Smallville this season. The former Supergirl: The Movie star will play Lara (Superman’s mother).

Yet another Superman veteran appearing in Smallville? Cool - although I’ll be really happy when they bring in the more obscure actors who played Superboy in the 80s.

Confirmed: The Cain on Smallville

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

deancainpudge.jpg

Variety this morning confirms the Lois and Clark star will be heading to Smallville this fall. He is set to play Dr. Curtis Knox - a villain.

He is scheduled to appear in episode four of Smallville’s 7th season, which begins September 27.

Well, I’m sure there are a lot of Dean Cain fans out there who are going to love this. Of all the Supermen to don the tights, I always thought Cain in his prime fit the part near perfectly. Of course now he’s looking a bit pudgy, so playing a villain is probably the best way to go. It’s also too bad he’s only scheduled - for now - for one episode.

Pop Culture Hits Land Emmy Nods

Friday, July 20th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

emmys.gifEmmy Nominations were announced this week, with several comic fan favorites making the list.

Under the category of Drama Series, NBC’s Heroes, the surprise hit of the year makes the list, as does Masi Oka as Hiro Nakamura for Supporting Actor in a Drama. The series also received a nod for Art Direction, and editing for the Heroes: Genesis episode.

While not comic-specific, Entourage, which featured series star as Aquaman in the Season 1 arc, made the list all over the place - and if you aren’t watching the HBO series, what’s wrong with you?

Battlestar Galactica also had several nominations including Felix Alcala in the Director for a Drama category, Ronald D. Moore for writing the two part Occupation/Precipice episodes. The series is also up for Sound Editing For A Series, as is the CW’s Smallville.

Superman Arrives in Smallville?

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

dean_cain.jpgRumors on the Internet this morning have Dean Cain in talks with the producers of the CW’s Smallville seiries.

There’s no word on what role Dean Cain would play on the show. For those not in the know, Cain played Clark Kent/Superman in the ABC series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.

Back in the 90’s I really enjoyed watching Lois & Clark, one because it was a Superman related show, and two because Terri Hatcher looked soooooo much better back then. The first two seasons were really good, but the show seemed to go downhill after that. The only thing I’ve seen Cain in recently has been the Ripley’s Believe It or Not show on TBS.

What do you think? Should Cain be on Smallville? After all, they did bring in another Superman not too long ago, and other semi-famous actors have been popping up on the show in the last couple of seasons. It’s too bad George Reeves isn’t alive, they could have him on too.

Supergirl Arrives in Smallville

Thursday, July 12th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

is18.jpgPeople Magazine has learned, and subsequently spilled the beans, that Canadian actress Laura Vandervoort has been cast as Supergirl for next season’s Smallville.

“She’s a combination of beauty, intelligence, a certain warmth, and great attitude,” Smallville co-creator Al Gough tells PEOPLE. “We’ve wanted a character to shake things up. She may be Clark Kent’s cousin, but that doesn’t mean she’s going to be the obedient one!”

And yes, Supergirl will be introduced as cousin Kara from Krypton, who will have all of Clark’s powers and can fly.

More pics of VanderV after the jump.

Supergirl Lands in Smallville

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

supergirlsmallville.jpgWe’ve already seen a version of Supergirl in the CW series Smallville, but this fall, Supergirl will join the show for real. The seventh season will kick off with the arrival of the 19-year-old Kara. While she will have all of Clark’s powers, there’s one that will stand out among fans of the show - she can fly!

“One of the joys of creating Smallville has been our ability to reinvent and reinterpret classic DC Comics characters,” said Smallville executive producer Al Gough. “Miles and I believe that Supergirl will give our series the mythic jolt that it needs as we head into our seventh season.”

Casting for Supergirl is currently underway.

Personally, with all of the other DC characters that have made an appearance in the show, I think they need to change the name from Smallville, to Justice League.
