Now he’s back. From outer space… well you get the idea. Silver Surfer returns in Silver Surfer: In Thy Name #1 and Marvel has sent Major Spoilers a sneak peek of the issue that arrives November 7th.

Marvel Comics has provided us with a sneak peek at some of the titles arriving next week. This weekend Major Spoilers brings you Avengers: The Initiative 5, Black Panther 30, Fantastic Four 549, Silver Surfer: Requiem 4, World War Hulk: X-Men 3, and Stan Lee’s The Last Fantastic Four Story. I’ve taken a peek at the full issue of the Last Fantastic Four Story, and it isn’t half bad in a Stan Lee sort of way. It’s an interesting tale that doesn’t end like you might expect it.
On Wednesday you can expect a full review of the latest Initiative installment, but for now take the jump for a preview of things to come.

I like the Marvel Knights series. It’s just a tad more intense than 616, and more mature than Ultimate M. Marvel Comics has sent Major Spoilers a sneak peek at Silver Surfer: Requiem that concludes the arc.

Another haul this week as Marvel released sneak peeks for issues arriving in stores July 25, 2007. Here is part two of the 19 issues Marvel is releasing this week.
Part 2 features Mighty Avengers, Onslaught Reborn, Sensational Spider-Man, and several Silver Surfer issues.
Marvel Comics has announced Silver Surfer: Requiem #1 has sold out and is going back to print with a new variant cover by Esad Ribic.

Marvel Comics has announced Silver Surfer: Requiem has sold-out at Diamond. The company says it has not plans to go back to press on this issue, but with the movie just around the corner, I think we might see a reprint around that time.
Regardless, Marvel also passed along a sneak peek at Silver Surfer: Requiem #2 that arrives June 27, 2007.

As I suspected when I first commented about the Silver Surfer coin contest, altering the coins is in fact illegal.
The U.S. Mint said in a news release Friday that it learned of the promotional quarter this week and advised the studio and The Franklin Mint they were breaking the law. It is illegal to turn a coin into an advertising vehicle, and violators can face a fine.
“The promotion is in no way approved, authorized, endorsed, or sponsored by the United States Mint, nor is it in any way associated or affiliated with the United States Mint,” according to the release. The federal mint did not say whether the studio or the private Franklin Mint would face a penalty.

Well everybody, I was super busy yesterday trying to get my house in order for a big sale, which was followed up immediately by a storm that promptly wrecked said house. This put me quite a bit behind as I scrambled to find some news of interest for you, dear reader, and I failed to get to Marvel’s daily deluge of sneak peeks. So gathered in one giant post I bring you Treasure Island, Cable and Deadpool, the final chapter of the Hulk in space saga, and a bunch of covers from upcoming Silver Surfer tie-in books.
Enjoy!

Twentieth Century Fox and the Franklin Mint are joining forces in what I can only describe as one of the strangest marketing campaigns I’ve seen in a while. The Franklin Mint is turning a 2005 California statehood commemorative quarter into a Silver Surfer quarter.
The 40,000 coins will be distributed in cities across the United States just in time for the Memorial Day weekend. Anyone who finds the Silver Surfer coin will be directed to the Fantastic Four website where they can regisister for a chance to win a trip to London for the June 12th premiere of the movie.
For some reason I always thought defacing U.S. currency was against the law, but I guess I’m wrong – especially when the fate of millions of dollars in box office sales is at stake. It is probably just a sticker that peals off anyway, meaning those 40,000 coins could quickly turn into 10 coins after an hour of jingling around in people’s pockets.
I have seen the trailer for the next Fantastic Four movie, and while it can’t be any worse than the first movie, I like what I see with the Silver Surfer.

USAToday has some exclusive agreement with 20th Century Fox on dishing out the tid-bits of information on the Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer flick. Today, the “news”paper gave us a look at the Silver Surfer.

Looks more like an artist rendering than something we’ll see in the movie. Looks rather plain to me, nothing we haven’t already seen in the Terminator movies. Guess I’ll wait until I see some actual moving shots before I give it a thumbs up or thumbs down.

MTV has posted a Behind the Scenes tour of the Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer movie. The clip is hosted by Jessica Alba, and while we do get to see some production and a tour of the different departments, it is typical MTV fluff – in other words, don’t expect any major revelations.

The USA Today has given the world a sneak peek at the Reed Richards’ Fantasticar. The vehicle has evolved since its debut in Fantastic Four #3 (1962). You’re gonna have to take the jump to see this thing…
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Beau Garrett and Andre Braugher have been cast in Tim Story’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Garrett will play Frankie Raye, while Braugher is cast as a general in charge of capturing the Silver Surfer. Fans of the HBO series Entourage will recognize Garrett from season one as the girlfriend who connect the guys with her sherpa.

Frankie Raye originally appeared as the Human Torch’s girlfriend, but became Nova when she volunteered to be the Herald of Galactus.

Garrett was just so so in the Entourage episode, so here’s hoping she can take it up a notch for this film. I loved Braugher’s Frank Pembleton character from Homicide: Life on the Streets and believe he will bring that intensity to the role of “Military General”. The one thing I see as a problem for the upcoming movie, is it appears they are trying to cram too much into one film. Unless it is going to be three hours long, the complex story arcs and character development could easily be lost. Would be interesting to see if Marvel and 20th Century Fox would allow Story to pull a Quentin and release Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer in two parts. They wouldn’t even need have a full year between releases; four months would be plenty.
Shooting is currently underway in Vancouver for the 20th Century Fox flick.

Director Tim Story has posted an update at his blog on how the shooting for Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer movie is coming along.
So it has begun! The Fantastic Four have been photographed for Rise of The Silver Surfer. Felt like old times. Everyone’s back in the mix and really picking their characters up where we last left off.
We also shot Andre Braugher for the first time. He plays General Hager, an old acquaintance of Reed Richards and one of the major additions to the movie. Jessicas is looking amazing. Chris has his energetic performance firing on all cylinders. Ioan looks great and Chiklis is funny as ever as the blue-eyed Thing.
One of the days was pretty long. Just happened to be one of those locations that we can’t come back to and we had a lot of effects shots. Those things always take forever. The background plates, then the actor buy himself, then the crowd. Blah blah blah. Wish we could shoot everything practically, but then again, I guess stretching Ioan may not go over too well.
