Who would have guess the great Sherlock Holmes matched wits with the like of a T-Rex and the Kraken, but it all happened…REALLY.  Watson just left those stories out of his journals.

Or at least that is what we are lead to believe in the Asylum’s upcoming Sherlock Holmes movie.

The Los Angeles Times (yes, it is still around) has news that isn’t good for the Platinum Studios Cowboys and. Aliens movie.  Robert Downey Jr. won’t be putting on a cowboy hat and fighting it out with visitors from beyond.  Instead, speculators believe Downey is gearing up for a new Sherlock Holmes film.  While Jon Favreau appears to still be on board, for now the Iron Man team of director/actor won’t be using their six shooters to stop and alien invasion.

While a sequel to Sherlock Holmes would be welcome, with the coming release of Iron Man 2, I can’t help but wonder if Downey isn’t saving himself for a third Iron Man film, or better yet, the Avengers flick.  If Sherlock Holmes 2: Gaslight Boogaloo is greenlit, it would go into production in June.

James Cameron’s Avatar – because that is how it will always be remembered, took the top spot over the weekend, bringing in $75 million over the weekend.  This makes the grand total for the film to date $212 million.  The Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock Holmes came in second with a respectable $65 million.  Being stuck in family mode for the entire holiday, I wasn’t able to travel to the local cinema to catch any movies, so I’ll leave it up the commenters to express their thoughts on the two films.

Of all the upcoming films for the holiday season, this is the one I’m looking forward to the most.

The Hollywood Reporter has Warner Bros. so excited about the upcoming Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock Holmes movie that has already green lit a sequel.  And while that news is an indicator the celebrated sleuth flick might do super good at the box office, the news that Brad Pitt is interested in playing the villain in the follow up movie should have everyone scrambling to lock schedules to get this film made.

Kieran and Michele Mulroney, the writers behind the now shelved “Justice League: Mortal”  project, have been brought on board to pen  the new movie.

Wildstorm has announced the latest in the zombie genre – Victorian Undead.  And before you ask, yes, Sherlock Holmes is involved.

The setting? London, the year 1854. Gas lamps throw long shadows across closed storefronts; a horse-drawn carriage prattles down the cobblestone street, paying no mind to the feral children sleeping in the alley. The only sounds audible at this late-night hour are a bit of music rising from the pub on the corner and the low moan of a zombie shuffling over the sidewalk.

The six-issue mini-series will be written by Ian Edginton with art by Davide Fabbri.

Take the jump for a peak at the full cover and gruesome variant.

The problem with many comic book story arcs is once you hit issues three and four in a six issue arc, the story starts to stall as the writer attempts to fill the time before the turn and final denouement that wraps everything up. Fortunately, this is not the case with Leah Moore and John Reppion as the title character remains on the run.
