It’s rare that we see adults use crayons to create awesome comic art, but Ryan Ottley does it with style, with his rendering of the Hulk.

Over at his blog, artist Ryan Ottley posted the cover to Invincible #72.

Ryan Ottley has announced he is leaving Image Comics’ Haunt and will be replaced by Greg Capullo who has been doing the layouts of the series.
“My main focus has always been ‘Invincible,’ so ‘Haunt’ was more of a side thing that turned into more work than I imagined,” said Ottley. “I’ll probably still do an occasional side project here and there, but to take on another ongoing is something I won’t do again. I did 14 comics in 2009, and I need to keep it at around 10 to 12 a year in order to keep my sanity and keep the books looking as fresh as possible. Not that I think the issues I did look horribly bad or anything, because I did do my best on them, but being able to spend more time on each page and get proper rest would be nice.”
Ottley’s final issue of the book will be issue #5 that arrives in February.
Ryan Ottley has posted the cover image to the upcoming Invincible #70 issue. Looks like we finally get to see what the brain cephalopods are up to.

Image Comics made a couple of announcements over the last couple of days, so once again, here’s your rapid-fire roundup of news from the company. For fans, take the jump to see what’s ahead for Invincible, especially with the announcement that Atom Eve isn’t dead, but is very naked.
Well, we all saw that comin’

For anyone who can pick up and read Previews, I don’t think it came as any surprise that this issue featured the death of a character a lot of readers, including the title character himself, had fallen in love with. Unlike other comic book deaths, this one was turned out to be extremely brutal, and the method in how it happened makes this a huge milestone for the series.

When it was unintentionally leaked through Previews that two of the Black Lanterns in the upcoming Blackest Night storyline were going to be Kal-L and Martian Manhunter, one has to wonder if Ryan Ottley saw the writing on the wall when he sketched this Zombie Superman image way back in June of 2007.
While the image doesn’t match the action figure solicitation exactly, it does make you wonder. Wanna see Zombie Batman? No you don’t…
Now this is more like it

I don’t know what happened in the second part of that two-part crossover issue that began in Invincible #57, and frankly, I don’t care. What I do care about is the intricate universe Robert Kirkman has created in Invincible and the myriad of characters in it. The latest issue returns readers to the good ol’ days of a young superhero and all the people in it.
This week, on a very special Invincible…

What a world of difference a couple of years make. Back in the day, you’d open up a copy of Invincible and see bashing and smashing, intrigue, and teenager trying to live a normal life with super powers. But our Mark Greyson has grown up, and as he comes into his own, he’s got to face a lot of adult situations. Situations like premarital sex, a sibling that needs an intervention, and domestic violence. Heady topics, indeed.

Image Comics is jumping on the crossover bandwagon in March, and Ryan Ottley provides the gatefold cover. It’s pretty intense, so take the jump for the full view.
Wonder no more.

Then I moved on to drawing this wierd guy. Alan Tew said it looked like a real life Pacman and suggested I draw him eating oreos, I then let him draw the eye on top and the ghost trailing behind him. Thanks Alan!
That’s some pretty weird stuff. You’ll have to check out Ottley’s website to see what else he whipped up during Draw Night.

I love comic creators and artists who have their own websites to post work to share with the rest of the world. Ryan Ottley is a great example. Not only do we get to see his awesome pencil work from Invincible, but his noodling around, too. Check out his take on the Muppets, and be thankful these guys weren’t looking back at you through the television when you were five.
