Avengers Assemble in 2011

Thursday, July 24th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

avengers.jpg

We already know the Avengers movie is scheduled from Marvel Entertainment in the coming years as he culmination of years of individual character titles.  The big question on every fanboys lips has been, “Will the individual movie actors appear in the team movie?”

According to Den of Geek and Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier, the answer is yes.

Leterrier is reported to have said that 2011 will definitely bring Jackson, Downey Jr., Hulk actor Ed Norton and two other ‘A-list actors’ - presumably whichever A-listers get cast as Thor and Captain America in their respective upcoming movies that Marvel is also producing - together for the Avengers movie.

Could those other two be Brad Pitt and Leonardo DeCaprio?  Those are the rumors of who would play Thor and Cap respectively.  Of course with nothing announced, this story will have to be filed in the Rumor Mill, but it makes perfect sense; if you are going to build a franchise of films that lead to the big enchillada, you better be able to bring the original actors back to the flick.  As cool as the Avengers cast sounds, I know there are those that say it will never happen because of the big names attached to the project.  I would respond by saying watch Ocean’s 11.

DC’s John Nee Resigns

Monday, June 23rd, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

News spilled around the Interwebs on Friday when it was rumored Dan DiDio may have been given his walking paper from the company.  Turns out it was actually DC Comics’ senior vice president of business development John Nee that left the company.

In a time when sales are slumping (how could Final Crisis #1 not outsell Secret Invasion #2), fans are upset in the direction the company is going with its heroes (certain Batman and Crisis titles come to mind), and some general fanboy hate towards the company, it’s no wonder people are calling for Dan DiDio’s head.

Nikke Finke from Deadline Hollywood Daily attempts to put it all together.

The problem isn’t just that, under DiDio’s leadership, fanboys are disappointed with the directions of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and other characters. (How dopey of DiDio to come out with a new series Decisions this September where the superheroes take political stands timed to the election.) Little wonder that fanboys are selling “Dan DiDio Must Die” t-shirts. But also average sales of the DCU line are down more than 20% from a year ago, and DiDio has lost a big chunk of existing readers in a year while deliberately failing to reach out to new ones.

Interesting… Dirk Deppy has a better break down of the situation over at his site.  While I generally agree with most of the arguments people are making across the entire universe, I feel the fault is more in a select group of writer who is forcing his (or her) agenda down the throats of his (or her) editors who don’t have the backbone to stand up to that writer for fear of loosing the company’s golden boy (or girl).  Then there is that whole advertising thing I mentioned a few months ago that seems to be a slam dunk solution for the company.

What are your thoughts on the whole DC situation, should DiDio stay or go?  Will all this be swept under the table when The Dark Knight hits theaters and there is a resurgence of interest in the Batman titles?

Regardless, I’m a direhard DC fan, and if you have seen my latest pull list, it looks like it is me that is keeping the company afloat with my huge DC pull list featuring nearly everything DC has to offer.

Could Lori Lemaris be the love interest to replace Lana Lang in the next Season of Smallville?

Lori_lemaris.jpg

We’ve already been introduced to Smallville’s version of Aquaman, so another underwater character wouldn’t be too much of a shock. But talk about jumping the shark - or mermaid in this case.

If you need further convincing; consider Lori Lemaris is another character with the initials LL.

JLA Mysteries Revealed as Interweb Hoax

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

jlapiconfinal.jpg

Remember how crazy I said the latest rumors from IESB were regarding the JLA movie? Turns out all the BS was in fact complete bullshit whipped up by someone trying to embarrass the IESB site.

the second email i sent IESB is the one they recently posted on the site from “Action Boy!”. the information and story treatment is full of completely ridiculous statements and ideas (unlike the previous scoop who’s info was far more reasonable). roberts response to this email was very courteous and not very inquisitive as to it’s legitimacy nor demanding of any proof that im legit (completely opposite of his response to the other “scoop”). but he was inquisitive for me to get more info for him. he said he’d like to ask me a few questions, and before i even responded to his request the scoop was posted on the site, not even 24 hours after it was sent. clearly, no research was even attempted in order to verify any of the info involved, yet they clearly deemed it newsworthy enough to post.

So there you go. IESB was trying to get a lot of link love by posting crazy rumors and ended up losing all credibility over it. Don’t worry Spoilerinoes, you won’t be see any more links to IESB anytime soon.

WTF is going on with the JLA?

Friday, August 31st, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

jlacrazyassshit.jpg

IESB has either gone full scale bonkers, or has really been doing its work on digging into the JLA film.

Would you believe not only will the film have Martian Manhunter, but also the OMACS, the killing of Max Lord by Wonder Woman, Checkmate, and Darkseid killing Superman? Yeah, I don’t believe it either, it’s just way over the top, and from the plot summary by Action Boy, seems rather lame; jam packed with waaaay too much story than could reasonably be contained in a two hour movie and still make sense. Mr. Action’s description actually makes me want to see David Goyer’s Super Max over this film.

You can read the whole thing over at the site, but it sounds like someone was watching an early copy of Death of Superman DVD, reading Infinite Crisis, and the OMACS series simultaneously, while smoking a bit of the holy herb and started tripping. Seriously, if this is the real film summary, Warner Bros. should have dropped the $20 million paycheck at my door, and I would have whipped something up (free tip #2: Make Lex Luthor a reluctant good guy).

Oh and apparently this fast-tracked film will feature a bunch of not well known actors and Leonardo DiCaprio as Aquaman - the lamest character on the team. Since Routh and Bale (and now apparantly Tom Welling) won’t be playing any of the major roles, why would Leo go for King Lame of the Sea?

Is it sounding crazy messed up to you too? Everything seems so far fetched, that I wouldn’t be surprised if all this stuff is being made up for Link Love Friday.

Well here you go gents: via IESB.net

(free tip #3: Start the film with The Question tracking a mystery).

Latest Crazy JLA Movie Rumor

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

laurencefishburne.jpgYes, the rumors continue from the IESB.net website. Today the gumshoes of comic filmdom are spreading gossip that the OMACS and white Martians would be playing heavies in the Justice League of America film (you know, the one that Tom Welling is supposedly in).

And speaking of Martians, Martian Manhunter may be played by Laurence Fishburne.

The rumoring goes on to say Ryan Reynolds is still on for the Flash, Maxwell Lord makes an appearance, and George Miller has been watching a lot of the Justice League cartoons.

I love rumors, they get the Interweb community’s panties in such a bind with trolls coming out of the woodwork proclaiming their own truth or debunking the rumors with, “suchandsuchsite.com says those rumors are false! It said so on that other Internets site so it must be true!”

Take it for what it is worth true believers, a rumor is just that, a rumor.  I still think a JLU all CGI movie done in the vein of Final Fantasy would rock everyone’s balls to the wall, and I would personally see that flick in the theatre five times (maybe even back to back).  But I don’t think that will happen, as I’m sitting here in the middle of nowhere, and not in an expensive Hollywood home’s hot tub with two hot girls named Jessica, while telling Charisma Carpenter why she can’t come over tonight. In other words, until Warner Bros. offers me a big check, I’m keeping my ideas to myself (free tip #1: hire Paul Dini and Bruce Timm before proceeding).

Megan Fox is Cassie Hack?

Friday, July 27th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

meganfox1.jpg

Hot on the heals of the Transformers movie, is the rumor Megan Fox is interested in the role of Cassie Hack in the Hask/Slash movie directed by Todd Lincoln.

In every slasher movie, there’s one girl who makes it all the way to the end. She’s the survivor…the last girl. Meet Cassie Hack, the lone survivor of an attack by a vicious slasher called The Lunch Lady. Now Cassie, along with her monstrous partner, Vlad, travel the country, hunting down other slashers before they can leave a trail of blood and terror.

Looks like a match made in heaven (so to speak). What are your thoughts? Does Megan have the acting chops to play in the movie?

And just because it is Friday, take the jump for a hot FHM picture of Megan and a cover from Hack/Slash (purely for comparison purposes).

Is Veronica Mars Season Four Taking the Buffy Route?

Friday, June 15th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

veronicamarscomic.jpg

Fans of the Veronica Mars television series were very dissappointed to learn it had not been picked up for another season on the CW. In an interview with the Toronto Star, series creator Rob Thomas said he has had meetings with DC concerning Veronica Mars as a comic series.

Makes sense to me, after all, Buffy Season Eight has been a huge hit for Dark Horse, so why shouldn’t DC jump on the band wagon?

SuperMax Rumor

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

Matt_Damon_with_Mike.jpgComicbookMovie.com has posted a rumor that Matt Damon may play the role of The Green Arrow in the currently in pre-pre-production SuperMax movie penned by David Goyer. The film tells the story of a falsely accused Ollie Queen stripped of his hero gig and thrown into a super maximum security prison where he has to make a prison break with a bunch of B and C-list DC villains.

I met Matt Damon yesterday in the city during his break from the 3rd installment of The Bourne Identity series and I asked him if he was doing any comic book movies. He told me he was in the middle of negotiating the starring role in The Green Arrow movie!!

Supermax is Real

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

greenarrowsupermaxconfirmed.jpg

Well I called BS yesterday in regards to the Goyer penned Supermax movie. Late yesterday, Goyer posted the following on his website:

SUPERMAX

Is it real? The answer is “YES”, it’s a real project. It’s just in the early stages of development, but amongst the tidal wave of super-hero movies hitting the screen, this more classically post-modern take could be pretty damn fun.

The basic concept actually came about through Justin Marks, a terrific young writer my wife Jessika (a producer) had previously worked with. They thought the idea of a prison-break story set in a jail designed exclusively for super-villains was a cool one. And I heartily agreed. After some discussion, we decided it would be fun to frame a super-hero and toss him into the meta-human mix.

From that point, it seemed like the next logical step was to set the film in either the Marvel or DC Universe. That way, we could populate the movie with all sorts of cool B and C-character Easter Eggs. We eventually landed at DC. Green Arrow, given his hard-hitting, moralistic tendencies, seemed like the most interesting hero to put through the institutional wringer.

I’ll keep you posted as things develop.

If they want to make a prison-break movie, why does it have to be Marvel or DC? And again, who cares if it is B or C level characters who have no connection with the audience. This could easily be done with totally new characters that have no relation with any comic company.  Goyer says this is in the early stages, and often early stage projects fall off the face of the Earth. If it is made, and actually looks like a well done movie, I’ll more than likely check it out.

Anyone still interested in seeing News Boy! ?

Goyer Green Arrow Movie I Just Don’t Get

Monday, April 9th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

greenarrowsupermaxpicon.jpg

The Interwebs is a buzz today over an article posted at Wizard Universe that “claims” David (Batman Begins, but got punted from The Flash) Goyer has sold Warner on the idea of doing a DCU villain movie. But this isn’t some Secret Six retelling, instead it is about Green Arrow. Or at least it has Green Arrow in it for about 10 minutes.

Come on you really want to believe that?

Regarding That Jake Gyllenhaal Rumor

Monday, March 19th, 2007--by Stephen Schleicher

johnaugustrumor.jpg

Looks like the Jake Gyllenhaal playing Captain Marvel rumor, was just that - a rumor. At least according to John August, screen writer for the flick.

But the thing is, he’s not considering. I can pretty much assure you he’s never heard of the project. And we’ve never discussed him. We’ve never seriously discussed anyone.

After several months of meetings, casting has come up exactly zero times. There’s no casting list. If there were a list, Gyllenhaal’s name would probably be on it, but trust me: there is no list. There’s no start date, no release date, no movie whatsoever. There’s just a script to be written. Which I should probably get back to.

But there is an out in Augusts comments, IF there were a list, his name would probably be on it. For now we’re going to call this rumor debunked, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it resurfaces again in the future.
