I’ve enjoyed the cheesecake Return to Wonderland and related tie-in series from Zenescope Entertainment.  The CS Moore Studio Ltd. has announced a deal with Fantastic Realm to create a statue based on Billy Tucci’s Carroll Ann “Callie” Liddy from the series (that’s the one above if you haven’t figured it out).

The story follows the now grown Alice Liddle as she travels back to Wonderland – this time with her 18 year old daughter Calie in tow. With stunning art and a new take on the Alice in Wonderland fairy tale, Zenescope’s stories have riveted readers and garnered critical acclaim.

No price has been set, and orders aren’t being taken right now, but the statue is expected to arrive in the Fall of 2009.

Originally Zenescope Entertainment had planned to raise the price of all its Tales From Wonderland one-shots to $3.99 due to an expanded story with additional pages, but to keep confusion from running rampant, the company has decided to keep Queen of Hearts at the original $2.99 price.

“We had meant to let retailers know ahead of time about the higher cover price for the one-shots in case they didn’t notice the price increase when placing their orders but realized that we didn’t get the information out in time. Instead we decided to keep this first issue at $2.99 to avoid any confusion.” said Zenescope President Joe Brusha. “We take pride in the relationship we have with retailers and consumers and we want to make sure they’re kept in the loop as much as possible.”

The other two Tales from Wonderland titles will see the price bump to $3.99.

Zenescope Entertainment has announced the thirst three issues of Return to Wonderland (that would be issues 0, 1, and 2) have sold out. And in the case of issue 1, its second printing has sold out as well. The company has announced it will go back to press for another reprint run very soon.

If you are interested in the series – it is very intense, and not for the young’uns – check with your retailer.

Fortunately, I’ve been able to get my issues when they are released, but a quick check on eBay show the issues running between $2.99 and $138.

Return to wonderland #1 hits stores today. If you haven’t read the preview issue released a couple of months ago, then you might want to flip through the issue in the stores, or read this sneak peek of issue #2.

Personally, I like the Grimm Fairy Tales stories as they are retellings of the classic tales with a Twilight Zone twist to them. With the exception of one or two of the stories, I think the series is a good one. Return to Wonderland looks to be a really twisted visit to the land of yesteryear – I like it.

Zenescope Entertainment sent me one of the collected trades of Grimm Fairy Tales, and I have to say I really like it. From the fantastic covers by Al Rio to the Twilight Zone-ish stories, Zenescope has a hidden gem you really should check out.

Last weekend, the company released Return to Wonderland #0 for a mere 99 cents and it completely sold out at Diamond, prompting Zenescope to order a 2nd printing of the issue.

Everytime I have posted the cover image to the first printing, there are a ton of hits and downloads from those digging on the Al Rio artwork. There is a new cover to the 2nd printing that features a wrap around cover, and it looks awesome. Our servers are prepared for the fan onslaught.

Return to Wonderland follows the story of Calie Liddle, daughter of the now adult and mentally ill Alice, as she journeys to the twisted realm of Wonderland to uncover the mystery behind Wonderland’s origins and her mother’s sickness.

The monthly kicks off June 13th.
