If you missed out on the very cool battle between Invincible and Cecil, you missed out on a great landmark, oversized issue.  Image has announced the issue sold out at the distributor level and will be going back to print with a variant black and white cover.

“Fans sure do love it when the book hits the fan,” said Kirkman. “Issue fifty altered the series in a way we haven’t seen since Omni-Man’s true nature was revealed and people have really taken notice. I think a lot of people will be even more surprised by what’s next.”

Hulk_04_SecondPrinting.jpg

Issue #4 of Hulk featuring Red Hulk bitch-slapping the Watcher sold out at the distributor level, probably because of the aforementioned bitch-slapping, prompting Marvel to go back to press with that very same image as the new variant cover.

“Whahooo!” said writer Jeph Loeb. “Ed and I and Jason and Rich are thrilled that the newest Hulk in the marvel universe has made red turn to green for our retailer friends!  And just in case anybody thinks we’re slowing down, next up is the Red Hulk vs. THOR in Hulk 5 and then in Issue 6 it’s GREEN VS. RED — The Rematch of the Century!  And we can promise you, there’s more and more surprises galore!”

The Hulk #4 reprint arrives July 30, 2008 for $2.99.

Marvel Announces Avengers/Invaders #1 Director’s Cut

Friday, June 27th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

AvengersInvaders01_DirectorsCutPicon.jpg

I think Marvel has done a pretty good job with its Director’s Cut reprints.  I read through the Kick-Ass Director’s Cut and was pleased with all the bonus content - which I’m sure will appear in the collected trade.  Those who want a better behind the scenes look at what goes into a comic might want to check out the Avengers/Invaders #1 Director’s Cut coming from Marvel in July.

The first printing sold out at Diamond Comic Distributors - a statement that seems to have caused many a website to launch into a overprint policy argument - but as always, you might be able to find a copy at your LCS (local comic shop).

I like the new cover by Alex Ross, very Marvels #1.

1985 #1 Sells Out, Back to Print

Thursday, June 5th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

Marvel1985_01_SecondPrintingPICON.jpg

Marvel Comics has announced the first issue of 1985 has sold out at the distributor level prompting the company to go back to press featuring interior art on the cover.

Anyone like this idea? I would much rather have original art on the cover (such as the art for the cover of 1985 #2 - after the jump, take it won’t you?) than something I’m going to see on the inside of the issue. Also, it seems the art being used on the cover seems to give away some of the joy found on the inside. Take for example the reprint cover image from Secret Invasion #2 that featured the massive Super Skrull invasion from the last page on the wrap around cover. I know it takes time to get new art created and to the printer in time to satisfy reader demand when a reprint is called for, but it makes the second printings less special in my opinion. Oh well, I guess that’s what you get for not purchasing the first printing when it came out.

In any case, following the jump, you can see the final page from 1985 #1, and the cover to 1985 #2.

Monday, May 19th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher

ThorAgesofThunder_Picon.jpg

I’m still catching up from last week, so forgive all the announcements from Marvel hyping its multitude of sold out issues. The latest is Thor: Ages of Thunder that will be going back to press with a variant cover with interior art by Patrick Zircher on the cover.

“All of us here on Team: THOR - AGES OF THUNDER are pleased as punch to discover that America enjoys the sight of Ice Giants getting brained with giant hammers as much as we do,” said Fraction. “We look forward to carrying that momentum forward through this upcoming time of transition, where we will continue to deliver the big hammer brainings America demands under the new guise of Team: THOR - REIGN OF BLOOD. Thank you.”
