Probably the best first week news of 2009 – Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegener are working on getting the third and fourth volumes of Atomic Robo in our greasy little hands this year.
Beyond that we’ve got Volume 3, Atomic Robo and the Shadow From Beyond Time coming up for pre-order in…uh…weeks? Months? Not 100% on that one. It’s soon though, I promise you that! And, yes, we’re doing another story for Free Comic Book Day this year. Look for that at your local retailers in May.

If you thought the second volume of Atomic Robo was spinning its wheels, you might want to pick up the fifth issue and give it a read. The Sparrow is out, Milligan is in, and Robo has to stop the greatest weapon ever developed.

When last we left the title character and his British secret service companion, they were stuck on a train, headed for a cliff, and battling some horrific scientific Nazi experiments gone wrong. If you thought Robo and Sparrow were doomed, then you probably haven’t been reading comics that long.
In which Robo meets the Sparrow, and all hell breaks loose

Can you believe it’s been a full year since the first Atomic Robo issue hit the stands, rocking the world of Major Spoilers, and making us fans of the snarky robot with a past that goes all the way back to Nikola Tesla? Can you believe this is the second review in a row, Tesla has made an appearance? Did you know I still can’t afford the Tesla automobile (ahem – tip jar to the right)? Did you know Atomic Robo once had a fellow espionage agent in Europe? Should I stop asking questions, and get to the damn review?

Red5 Comics let Major Spoilers know it has a brand new mini-series coming our way this July that features everyone’s favorite undead brought to life (no pun intended) in a whole different way – Zombies fighting our battles.
Air-dropped into the deadliest hot zones, the walking dead of ZMD: ZOMBIES OF MASS DESTRUCTION indiscriminately infect every last warring insurgent — on either side of the conflict. Specifically engineered to be photosensitive, once enemy infection becomes complete by dawn, both the originals and newly created zombies dissolve as a means to control widespread and accidental zombification. This allows live soldiers to enter and safely occupy the now-combatant-free territory. However, this plan takes a deadly turn when one of the U.S. zombies, dubbed — ZOMBIE ZERO — fails to dissolve at the expected time, and begins to wreak havoc in the Middle East by creating others like him. This leads the U.S. military brass to send in a special operative to quietly take out Zombie Zero and his minions before their existence becomes known to the rest of the world.
YES! If you are going to compete in the zombie genre, this is a great take on the theme.
ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction (code MAY084097) is written by Kevin Grevioux with art by Geraldo Borges. Red5 Comics sent us a peek at the six part bi-monthly series that kicks off in July.

Good news for those of you that came late to the Atomic Robo party – the series is getting its first trade this June. Take the jump for the other titles shipping from Red 5 Comics in June 2008.
Red 5 Comics has sold the rights to their new series Afterburn to Ryan Kavanaugh’s Relativity Media. Tobey Maguire and Neal Moritz are teaming up to produce the adaptation.
Afterburn is a sci-fi adventure set against the backdrop of a postapocalyptic Earth, whose Eastern Hemisphere was destroyed by a massive solar flare, leaving what life remains mutated from radiation and fallout. The story revolves around a group of treasure hunters who for the right price extract such objects as the Mona Lisa, the Rosetta Stone and the Crown Jewels while facing rival hunters, mutants and pirates along the way.
At this time, no writer has been signed to adapt the story.
I’m a robot, and you’re a brain in a jar…

The final issue of the adventures of the Tesla created robot sits before me – a culmination of a story that has been building for over 70 years as Atomic Robo faces his most diabolical foe. As this is the last issue in this series, it begs the question, “Does Atomic Robo rock, or should he be left to rust?”

As we mentioned in the Alpha episode of the Major Spoilers podcast, Atomic Robo is getting an ongoing series this fall. Fans of the Tesla created automaton can get a peek at the new adventures this May during Free Comic Book Day with Red 5’s Atomic Robo/Neozoic offering.
If you can’t wait that long, take the jump and get a five page sneak peek now.
Turbines to speed!

Every once in a while you have the chance to get in on the ground floor of something big. I think Atomic Robo from Red 5 Comics is one of those titles just waiting to bust out. Atomic Robo has Nazis, explosions, and a robot that wears pants and cracks wise. What’s not to like?
