Live Free or Die Hard director Len Wiseman has been tapped to direct Radical Publishing’s movie adaptation of Shrapnel.

Co-created by Zombie Studios’ CEO Mark Long and science fiction novelist Nick Sagan, Shrapnel is an epic 3-part miniseries that unfolds in a dystopian future in which imperialism has laid siege to the Solar System and Venus stands as the last free colony of humanity. Caught in the middle of this interplanetary war is Samantha “Sam” Vijaya, a soldier in self-imposed exile recovering from her service in the military. When the battle once again crashes into Sam’s life, she must choose to either remain on the sidelines and watch a colony’s destruction, or risk her physical and psychological well-being to intervene. The first story arc revolves around Venus, while the second arc rages across Mars and the final climax carries over onto Earth itself.

The movie is being developed as a live action flick, but may swing into 3D if needed.  A video game of Shrapnel is also in the works from Zombie Stuiods’, the company producing the movie.

I hate bad news in the industry, as it seems to tarnish the wonderfulness that is the four=color world.  But, I do understand that deals, contracts, and entities may not always be that fair in the long run, which requires those that feel wronged to seek retribution.  Such is the case with Radical Publishing co-founder David Elliott, who has filed suit against parent company Blatant Entertainment over wages and lost income.

Elliott says he’s the co-founder, co-publisher, and former editor-in-chief of the company and its various publishing efforts, and that it terminated him in April. Elliott alleges that Blatant hasn’t given him his full salary, failed to properly credit him on several projects including Hercules and Aladdin, and is exploiting properties without consideration where Elliott owns a portion of the copyrights.

The allegations go on to say that Blatant may not even have proper documentation to show chain of ownership, which could later put the kibosh  on future movie deals that Radical is currently working on.
