GET READY TO RAQ! It’s Black Hawk Upside-Down!

EISNER award-winning Kyle Baker brings you SPECIAL FORCES the wackiest boot camp since “Stripes”! SPECIAL FORCES follows a small-town autistic teen from his recruitment, through basic training, and then off to war in Iraq. With violent felons, mental patients, a violent mental hot chick felon and at least one “Don’t ask don’t tell”, his unit is composed of the military’s last line of defense. The very last line!

What happens when desperate army recruiters fall below quota at the same time the President calls for additional troops? Find out in SPECIAL FORCES!

Inspired by a true 2006 incident in which an 18-year-old autistic Oregon boy was recruited into the army.

PvP Gets Own Booth at Comic Con

Tuesday, October 17th, 2006--by Stephen Schleicher

Scott Kurtz has posted infor about his appearance at the 2007 San Diego Comic Con.  We already posted info on who are honored guests, but Scott is taking it a step further and getting his own booth.

We’re going to have our own booth (we won’t be set up with Image) and we are planning to make it our biggest splash in San Diego ever. We can spend more on the booth and stuff since we don’t have to worry about paying for airline tickets and hotel rooms.

It’s a real honor and we’re very excited about next year. We’ve been planning San Diego 2007 since before San Diego 2006 even started.

2007 is going to be wicked cool, guys.

Right on Scott!  Congrats, and looking forward to seeing you there.

Scott Kurtz Does Batman

Monday, October 9th, 2006--by Stephen Schleicher

Scott Kurtz, the genius behind PvP, kind of participated in the 24 Hour Comic Book Day.  I say kind of, because he did take a break to go home and sleep before continuing.  In years past, he workd on PvP strips only.

So this year, I was up for about 10 hours, went home and slept, then got up and returned to the store to hang out for another 4-5 hours. I didn’t get as much done, but I’m much happier this year for having taken the break.

This year he made an attempt at doing a long Batman story.  In 12 panels, he pretty much sums up Batman’s anger in the story “My Parents are Dead”.

I like Kurtz’s styling of Batman, and wonder what he would have come up with had he had a long time to dwell on it.  Regardless, me likey… It is too bad, DC ended their run on Solo, would have been fun to see what Scott would have come up with.
You can read Scott’s attempt here.

Paul Taylor Benifit Auction

Thursday, September 21st, 2006--by Stephen Schleicher

I’m a huge fan of Wapsi Square by writer/artist Paul Taylor. I came across the online comic about three years ago, and have been hooked ever since. Great deep plot lines, interesting characters, and wonderful fun art. Recently Paul and his wife had a baby boy. That’s the good news. The bad news, he was born a month premature and has had several complications that require extended hospital stays. Extended stays mean high medical bills.

To help out Blank Label Comics is announcing a fund raiser to help the Taylor family out.

Several BLC members and friends are auctioning off original art and other amazing items over the next two weeks. The money made from these auctions will be donated directly to Paul Taylor and his family.

If you don’t want to bid on one of the auctions, you can donate directly at the Wapsi Square (www.wapsisquare.com) through the online Paypal Donation button.
