This summer, Top Cow Productions will launch a huge limited crossover series featuring the cybernetic killers of Cyberforce, and the Ultra Sapiens of Hunter-Killers.  While the storyline is being kept a secret, we do know Mark Waid will be writing with Kenneth Rocafort providing all the art.

“I can’t wait to work with Kenneth again,” said Waid in a prepared statement. “He blew my mind when I first saw his Hunter-Killer pages during the first run. To be brutally honest, it’s rare that I see a new artist whose work doesn’t feel redundant or a clone of something else already out there. Kenneth’s energy knocks me out.”

“This is a dream come true to draw one of my favorite teams of all time, Cyberforce,” said Rocafort, who was a fan of Top Cow books well before he started drawing for them. “And to combine that with the characters of Hunter-Killer, which I love to draw, and working with Mark again, this is an exciting project for me.”

Take the jump for a Cyberforce/Hunter-Killer pin-up and character sketches from Rocafort.

BOOM!  I love this image.  It’s a perfect combination of dramatic pose, lighting, and the suspense of wanting to know what this promo is all about.  My guess it has something to do with some of that art we saw a year or so ago featuring Iron Man in a Captain America inspired suit.

We’ll find out when Marvel sends more info, but until then, enjoy the image directly from the Mike Deodato, Jr.

Boom! Studios has announced a new mini-series that delves into a story about a thief with supernatural powers.  The series is written by Michael Alan Nelson with art by emma Rios.

HEXED follows nineteen-year-old Luci Neves, a.k.a. “Lucifer,” a Brazilian thief who specializes in the otherworldy and the enchanted. Ordinary crooks can rob banks. Lucifer’s the girl you call when you need someone to steal a demon’s collar, a feather from an angel’s wings, or the hinges off the gates of Hell itself.  Luci’s life has been plagued by macabre adventures and ethereal encounters, and now that an ill-satisfied client from her past has come back to haunt her…well, there may be no place in any dimension left for her to run!

“This is, honestly, everything I look for in a series and in a first issue,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Mark Waid in a prepared statement.  “Michael’s got his craft down better than just about anyone, and his ideas are terrific. Weird and chilling and compellingly disturbing, but terrific. Okay, actually, the boy clearly needs therapy. But HEXED is great.”

Impaler-spread_1.jpg

Top Cow has announced Impaler will get an ongoing series from the company.  The vampire thriller by William Harms with art by Matt Timson has had success with the first trade paperback, thus more vamp stories are on the way.

“Vampires continue to resonate with people – just look at the success of properties like HBO’s True Blood and Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight books,” said Top Cow’s VP Marketing and Sales Mel Caylo in a prepared statement. “We recognized Impaler is truly a fresh, new spin on the ‘vampire mythos’ and were excited to keep the story going. We think it has the potential to be like Walking Dead, but for vampires.”

In the first story arc of Impaler, a derelict cargo ship is found adrift offshore during a terrible blizzard in New York City. When New York’s Finest is sent to investigate the missing crew, an unspeakable horror is unleashed that quickly spreads all over the snow-covered borough, as a vampire plague quickly moves through the city’s population. The people’s only hope lies in Vlad Tepes, the real-life historical inspiration for the vampire legend, Dracula. Vlad the Impaler arrives to defend the city from the ever-growing vampire horde, but how much can one man do against an army of thousands?

Dynamite Entertainment has announced The Death Defying Devil #1 will be an ongoing series spinning out of the company’s Project Superpowers series.  Joe Casey will write the series with Edgar Salazar will taking on the art duties, with John Cassaday providing alternate cover art.

“We’re extremely happy to be expanding the Project Superpowers Universe that Dynamite has built together with Alex Ross and Jim Krueger,” stated Dynamite’s Nick Barrucci. “Bringing Joe Casey as the scripter was a piece of the puzzle that Joe put together by reaching out to Alex to join our team.  It’s great to know that great talent such as Joe could see what we were building towards in the initial series, and has helped us to showcase the ‘Devil as the next step towards introducing these ‘dynamite’ characters to the world!  We cannot wait to show the fans more information and story art pages with our upcoming press and creator interviews!”

With the new direction Image Comics’ Invincible took in issue #50, one would expect the sales to drop off a little bit, but according to creator Robert Kirkman, that’s not the case.

“It’s tradition for the issue after a milestone like fifty to taper off, but it certainly wasn’t the case here,” said Kirkman. “In fact, the combination of INVINCIBLE’s new costume, new sidekick and the totally kick-ass cover by Jim Lee made this the best selling issue yet. Having this sell so well after we blew through issue fifty showed me the series is healthier than its ever been.”

Image has gone back to press once already on the issue that features interior art by series artist Ryan Ottley and cover by Jim Lee, but there’s no word if the reprint has sold out or not.  Issue #51 arrives in August, and you can see the cover after the jump.
