One of the commenters was lamenting the fact that we haven’t seen a Marvel “Who Do You Trust?” ad featuring the ladies of the Marvel U.

Well Jon, this ad is for you.

For those of you who would like to argue the Who v. Whom usage, check out this entry from Grammar Girl.

OK, here’s the quick and dirty tip. Like whom, the pronoun him ends with m. When you’re trying to decide whether to use who or whom, ask yourself if the answer to the question would be he or him. That’s the trick: if you can answer the question being asked with him, then use whom, and it’s easy to remember because they both end with m. For example, if you trying to ask, “Who (or whom) do you love?” The answer would be “I love him.” Him ends with an m, so you know to use whom. But if you are trying to ask, “Who (or whom) stepped on Squiggly?” the answer would be “He stepped on Squiggly.” There’s no m, so you know to use who. So that’s the quick and dirty trick: if you can’t remember that you use whom when you are referring to the object of the sentence, just remember that him equals whom.

So, it does look like Marvel needs a better copy editor.

DC Comics has announced the promotion of David Hyde to Vice President of Publicity of DC Comics. Hyde joined DC in 2003 as Directory of Publicity overseeing the campaigns for the graphic novels, trades, and monthly titles from DC, Vertigo, MINX, WildStorm, CMX, MAD Magazine, and Zudacomics.com.

In a prepared statement Paul Levitz, DC Comics President and Publisher said, “David has played an important role in raising the profile of DC and of graphic novels, and I look forward to his increased opportunity to build our business in his new position.”

Sounds like good news all around! Hopefully David will get us on the PR list for all the Warner Bros. movie, television, and video news coming from the company too!

DC Comics has sent Major Spoilers changes and updates to many of its titles shipping soon.

• Jonah Hex #21 will feature a different story than the one originally solicited.
  • In issue #21, a notorious gang of bank robbers burns a small town to the ground, killing several Pinkerton detectives. As bounty hunter Jonah Hex stalks them across the desert, the trail leads to a mysterious Native American stronghold — a damned place where no one gets out alive!
• Wildcats #2 has been canceled and will be resolicited at a later date.
• Wonder Woman #11 will be written by J. Torres.
• The Superman/Batman #38 variant cover will be done by Claudio Castellini
• The Women of the DC Universe: Batgirl Bust will arrive in stores on July 5

Overdue Media has announced it has hired Jim Demonakos as its Senior Business Strategist. Demonakos was previously my man on the inside at Image Comics, and is also the organizer of the Seattle Emerald City ComiCon. If that doesn’t sound like he has a busy dance card, he is also the owner of the Comic Stop chain of stores in the same area.

Overdue Media is the publisher of the daily comic strip Unshelved a daily strip about the ongoings of librarians created by Bill Barnes and Gene Ambaum. The strip has over 35,000 readers.

“I’m very excited to be coming on board with Unshelved,” Demonakos said in a prepared statment. “I love its dry wit and spot-on observations about people, books, and retail environments. The characters and the library setting have a very broad appeal, and I look forward to helping tap into its mainstream potential.”
