Or – “There Are Old Pilots And Bold Pilots, But Few Old, Bold Pilots…”
RFRBOB.jpg
I saw recently that a clinical study proved that January 25th is the most depressing day of the entire year, scientifically and unequivocally.  While I don’t disagree with that sentiment (especially as it regards the attendance of employees in Midwestern United States call centers) I find it fascinating that somebody actually got paid to try and figure out something that silly and (let’s be honest, here) banal.  Still and all, it’s the kind of story that you read and go, “Yeah, I can see that.”  Thus, to ease your slowly-receding ennui (and Stephen’s not-so-slowly receding hairline) I give you another batch of coverage of comics you might have read, but forgot to laugh at the first time…  Rapid-Fire Style!

Or – “Third #$&*$ing Verse, Same As The #$&*$ing First…”

When we last checked in with Homicide detective Christian Walker, he had lost partner Deena Pilgrim, but gained a girlfriend, a new partner, and a new costumed identity.  Now balancing his double-life as protector of the planet with the day-to-day grind of a beat cop (as well as acting as de facto parent to a teenager who is secretly the latest incarnation of legendary superhero Retro Girl) the nigh-immortal Walker pretty much has his hands full.

Brian Michael Bendis has confirmed that the FX network is actively developing a pilot based on the BMB/Michael Avon Oeming Powers series.

“‘Powers’ is in active development as a pilot at FX,” Bendis told MTV. “I just handed in a draft to the network and we’re getting our notes from the network as soon as this thing is over. So next week I’ll get the notes, and as long as they don’t involve sock puppets and some sort of orgy scene that I’m not interested in, then hopefully it will go in the right direction.”

While active development is a long way from post production, it is good a major cable network is looking at a superhero title for its next gritty crime drama series.

Even though FX hasn’t asked for your input, who would you like to see in the title roles?

Walker.  Deena.  Excrement.  Rotating blades.

This shan’t be pretty.

Hey, what’s an issue of Powers without obligatory cursing, hmm? In any case, my years as a comic geek have lead me to create a few simple rules that define my comic purchasing habits, and make Wednesdays easier to navigate: Mark Waid – Good. Rob Liefeld – Not Good. Buy anything with Stingray. Avoid anything with Bane. Don’t trust Marvel’s covers, the interior art is almost always different (and many times inferior.) Likewise, no matter who appears on the cover, Countdown tie-ins will probably disappoint. And above all, Bendis writing can be a total crapshoot, but Bendis writing his OWN characters is #&$*ing awesome…
