Last week, there was a lot of speculation over an image of Pixar creators at work.  Behind the sculptor is a very pronounced image of a dinosaur and a boy, which many saw as a clue to the next 3D movie project.  The Pixar blog site offered up a variety of clues, and ultimately came to this conclusion:

These facts point to this having been a research trip for an unannounced upcoming film, almost certainly being directed by (Greg) Dykstra. This would undoubtedly be a short since Dykstra hasn’t directed before at the studio.

How trippy would this have been had PIXAR gone ahead and followed this story through?

The film was to see an egg laid by Kevin being a fountain of youth. “Muntz wanted the egg because it was this youth potion that made you grow young,” says Docter. Carl was supposed to be protecting the egg throughout the movie.

Fortunately, the team realized it might have been a little over the top for such a heart-breaking movie, and opted to drop it from the final production.  However, you will get to see the storyboard sequence and director commentary when UP hit’s Blu-Ray this fall.
