Philip K. Dick is one of science fiction’s greatest pioneers, and as BOOM! Studios continues to bring you one of his greatest masterpieces, DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP? in graphic form, New York Times bestselling author Jonathan Lethem brings you his own personal journey into Dick’s writings.
This recent essay by Lethem, titled “Crazy Friend”, makes its U.S. print debut in the pages of issues #9-12 of DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP? The essay tells of Lethem’s journey as a Philip K. Dick fan—from first discovering Dick’s novels, to eventually becoming a contributor to the estate run Philip K. Dick newsletter.

It’s odd that in the last five years Philip K. Dick has experienced another resurgence in popularity. With Boom Studio’s “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” it was only a matter of time before other comic publishers started offering their interpretations of PKD stories. Marvel Comics landed the rights to Electric Ant, and sent Major Spoilers a sneak peek of the first issue.

This should be a really good week for Boom! Studios. In stores today is the prequel to the Die Hard franchise, the first Mickey Mouse comic published in three years, the fourth installment of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, and the start of a new Unknown arc. You can see all the sneaks after the jump before you head down to your comic book store to pick them up.

Boom! Studios has to be feeling rather euphoric going into the weekend. First it was news that the latest issue of Irredeemable sold out in a single day, now the company is letting everyone know that the second issue of its take on the Philip K. Dick Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep story has also sold out at the distributor level.
If you haven’t picked up the first two issues, and you like PKD’s work, then I suggest you get out to your LCS and pick up DADOES as soon as possible. And if your LCS has sold out of its copies, reprints of the second issue can be ordered now, and will be arriving soon.

Boom! Studios has announced its adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? #1 has sold out at the distributor level, prompting Boom! to send the issue back to press.
DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP? takes place in a world where San Francisco lies under a cloud of radioactive dust. The World War has killed millions, driving entire species to extinction and sending mankind off-planet. Those who remained coveted any living creature, and for people who couldn’t afford one, companies built incredibly realistic fakes: horses, birds, cats, sheep… even humans. Rick Deckard is an officially sanctioned bounty hunter tasked to find six rogue androids — they’re machines, that not only look, sound, and think like humans, but are clever, and most of all, as dangerous as any human.
I had a chance to read this earlier this week, and was very impressed with what is going on with this issue. Boom! is trying to get the issue into retailer’s hands as soon as possible, although at this time it does not have an expected ship date.

Ever since Boom! Studios announced it was adapting Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? into comic book form, it has been on my radar as something I really want to check out. Boom! apparently senses my desire to dive into the first issue that arrives next week, as it sent a sneak peek of the first issue for all to enjoy.
If you were here, sitting next to me right this instant, you would hear an audible sigh as I read news about Total Recall getting a remake. Not because it is a stupid story, it’s one of my more liked Philip K. Dick stories, but because the movie has already been made into a fun action movie that has Arnold dressing in drag and having his eyes almost sucked out of his head on the the terraformed Mars.
Columbia Pictures is the latest studio to jump on board the whole, “Let’s remake every movie ever made, because we don’t have an original thought” bandwagon, but is keeping mum on how it will make this version of We Can Remember It for You Wholesale contemporary enough to draw audiences in.
What we do know is Kurt Wimmer is writing the new version, with Neal H. Moritz producing. No word on who will star, or when the remake will hit theaters.
