A Different Take on New York Comic Con

Man, I think I missed a fun show.

The House of Ideas announced this past weekend that Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game will get the comic book treatment as part of Marvel’s Author’s line. The adaptation will be done by Christ Yost (writer), Pasqual Ferry (art), with Mr. Card overseeing the project.
The comic series will mark the first visualization of the best-selling sci-fi epic in which the world’s most gifted children are taken to Battle School to prepare them for the fight of their lives—and to save humanity from its greatest threat! It is the tale of an unassuming young boy named Ender Wiggin, who will rise up to be the greatest warrior and leader that the human race has ever known. This saga follows Ender and his friends as they grow to become the last hope and line of defense for all of mankind.
“ENDER’S GAME and ENDER’S SHADOW are my most popular novels, and for many years I’ve withheld them from adaptation until the conditions were exactly right,” says Orson Scott Card in a prepared press release. “I’ve worked with Marvel for several years now, beginning with the ULTIMATE IRON MAN series, and I trust them to do superb work. They understand the stories; they know how to translate them into graphic-novel form; and nobody has higher standards of professionalism. In short, now is the time, and Marvel is the publisher to bring Ender and Bean to life in the visual media.”
Marvel will also concurrently publish Ender’s Shadow.

Okay, so it is more like the Kara clone Galatea from the Justice League Unlimited, but it is probably the closest thing we’re going to get to a JLU figure based on the busty heroine.
There are a lot more photos of the new JLU figures (including Captain Atom and a well done Giganta) over at Action Figure Insider.
All of the photos were taken by con attendees, which reminds me; Did anyone go to the show and want to share their photos? Contact Stephen Schleicher and we’ll get them up for all to see.

If Marvel had a lot to talk about, DC was right behind with many announcements and exclusives.

There were a lot of big announcements made at the New York Comic Con that took place this weekend.

It’s been announced at the New York Comic Con and over at the Myspace Comic Books page that Mark Waid will be taking a crack at the web head in Amazing Spider-Man.
Says Joe Quesada:
That is the beauty of [Spider-Man Editor] Steve Wacker. Steve and [Executive Editor] Tom Brevoort reached out to Mark, and I’ve always been a fan of his work. And I really loved the House of M: Spider-Man issues he did. It’s just a natural match, a natural pairing, to put him on that book if the timing and schedules work out. And they did.
I think what Mark brings to the book is a great sense of humor, and his ability to write young characters. Mark has a great “range” he can write in. He’s very well-rounded. But he has this light, airy style he brings when he writes young characters that’s great to read.
This is certainly an interesting turn of events. Looks like we’ll be seeing a younger Peter Parker, and with Mark Waid at the controls, the tales being spun should be “spectacular”. Lots more information can be found at the Myspace site.

One more day! I sure wish I was going (sad-face). Archie fans take note of the signing schedule and panel appearances from Archie Comics (booth #1821).

I told you you wouldn’t escape the seemingly never ending list of exhibitors and their schedules. Marvel has a big line up events happening at the New York Comic Con. With Skrulls running around willy-nilly, you might want to check out what they have to offer.

You can not escape the myriad of schedule and booth signing posts on this site!
Next up - Image Comics!
“For whatever reason New York has been a tough city to hold a convention, but the folks behind the New York Comic Con have pulled it off better than anyone could imagine,” said Image Comics Publisher Erik Larsen. “I’ve really enjoyed every year I’ve attended and thought it was long past time Image Comics had a complete set up, including one of our now famous Image Comics Shows!”

I’m growing more and more restless as we crawl ever closer to the weekend and the New York Comic Con. I’m also growing more and more jealous of those who are going to the New York Comic Con. One of the things I like most about these shows is getting to see the prototypes and exclusive toys coming from the various manufacturers.
Diamond Select Toys has sent Major Spoilers the rundown for the panels the company will appear on, as well as some of the exclusives at the show.

EW.com has the first images of the Watchmen action figures based on the upcoming Zack Snyder movie from Warner Bros.
The figures look spectacular, I just hope they are truly action figures instead of nicely molded pieces of plastic that end up as inexpensive maquettes for those who can’t afford the real deal.
If you happen to be in New York and are attending the New York Comic Con, DC Direct will unveil the first four prototypes on Friday, April 18.
BTW: Both figures will arrive in stores in January 2009 with a price tag of $14.99.

Top Cow Entertainment has announced its signing and panel schedule for the New York Comic Con taking place this weekend.

If you are one of the lucky thousands to be able to attend the New York Comic Con this weekend, and you want to meet and greet some of the creators from Boom! Studios, check out the company’s signing schedule for the show.
Complete schedule after the jump!
It’s just too bad DC didn’t give the okay to use its characters…
Silent Devil has announced attendees of the New York Comic Con can enter a contest to win original pages from the company’s Division 18 series.
Entering is easy — every issue of Division 18: The Union of Novelty Costumed Performers #1 purchased at the Silent Devil/Little Foot booth #2353 will come with a raffle ticket. One winner will be announced on Saturday, April 19th, and another on Sunday, April 20th.
