Sad news for those who were getting into DC’s Minx line – a line primarily aimed at female readers.  The company has announced it will cease publication in January 2009.

Minx will cease publication beginning January ’09. Minx was an experimental imprint for DC Comics and we are extremely proud of the books we published and the stories we told during the past two years. We thank all of the writers and artists who lent their talents to our endeavor and especially thank readers who came along for the ride. DC Comics remains committed to publishing diverse material for diverse audiences as we continue to welcome new readers.

:(

If DC is willing to slash a whole imprint, look for more titles to get the axe in the near future.

Did you notice Batman was wearing some strange pirate/Arabic costume? Batman #666 looks like it reveals the tie between that mysterious DC image and the Bat. Also, check out the JSA/JLA crossover titles that were the hallmark of the Multiple Earth series from days of old. Second, May will be a month of direct figures from DC Unlimited including the new World of Warcraft action figures and the first wave of Afro Samurai action figures. dc.jpgThis May will see the debut of DC Comics’ new Minx line. DC is confident enough in the line it is offering retailers full returnability of The Plain Janes – providing they meet certain qualifications.

There are several different breakdown scenarios, but is runs something like this; if a retailer with a 50% DC Comics discount orders a minimum of 4 copies of The Plain Janes, it will qualify for full returnability.

This offer is only good through the final cut off date of March 8, 2007.

DC Comics is launching a new imprint called MINX, which will publish original graphic novels for teenage girls. MINX will be the first imprint from a major American comic book publisher devoted to reaching the teenage girl. MINX will launch in May 2007 with the publication of THE PLAIN JANES, a graphic novel written by young adult novelist Cecil Castellucci (The Queen of Cool and Boy Proof) and illustrated by Jim Rugg (the creator and artist of Street Angel). The MINX imprint will be overseen by Vertigo Senior Vice President and Executive Editor Karen Berger and Vertigo Group Editor Shelly Bond.
