A Major Spoilerite asked what I thought of Michael Turner’s art, so today’s Art Appreciation Moment features the Tomb Raider/Witchblade cover by Michael Turner and Tim Townsend.
Love him or hate him, you gotta appreciate Turner’s work.
The Hollywood Reporter has Transformers hottie Megan Fox signing up to co-star in two additional comic book adaptations. First up is Jonah Hex, where she’ll star opposite Josh Brolin in the DC western.
In “Hex,” being directed by Jimmy Hayward, Fox will play Leila, a gun-wielding beauty and love interest of Hex (Brolin), a scarred bounty hunter tracking a voodoo practitioner (Malkovich) who wants to raise an army of undead to liberate the South.
Then there is the continuing talk of Fox playing the title character in Aspen Comics’ Fathom, created by Michael Turner. Fox certainly has the build to play the aquatic hero, and considering she is helping to develop the property for film it sounds like her heart is in to this one.
Marvel has unveiled the variant covers to the Hulk #6 and #7 done by the late great Michael Turner.
“Living in a world without Mike is something I could never imagine,” said Hulk scribe Jeph Loeb. “He was the greatest guy. The. Greatest. I wanted some way to share my love of his artwork and at the same time give something to the fans — who were more important to Mike than anyone can imagine — and spoke to Marvel about doing these covers. They are pieces Mike did of the Green Hulk (one as a gift to Frank Mastromauro)and Peter Steigerwald of Aspen Comics did the recoloring and remastering. It was terribly important to me that Peter and Aspen got to be part of this as well. They are a celebration of Mike’s enormous talent and in turn, his life. Enjoy.”

Unfortunately it’s with great sadness that I must inform everyone that Michael Turner tragically passed away last night, June 27th at approximately 10:42 pm in Santa Monica, Ca. Turner had been dealing with recent health complications arisen in the past few weeks. More details concerning Turner’s passing, and services, will be given shortly.

Marvel has unveiled the variant covers to the 500th issue of the Uncanny X-Men. This landmark issue is extra-sized and introduces the new writing team of Ed Brubaker and Matt Fraction with art by Greg Land and Terry Dodson.
The future tale of Wolverine is about to kick off in the Marvel title, and for issue #66, written by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven, Michael Turner steps up to do a variant cover for the issue.
Marvel Comics has sent Major Spoilers the Michale Turner variant sketch cover to Brian Michael Bendis’ Ultimate Origins #1.
With the Marvel First Family set to reunite in Fantastic Four #551, Marvel has commissioned Art Adams to create a unique variant cover for the issue.

Dynamite Entertainment has done it again by obtaining another hot property. Teaming up with Pandemic Studios, Dynamite Entertainment will be creating comic books based on the Mercenaries video games. The series will be written by Brian Reed, with interior art by Edgar Salazar, and covers by Michael Turner.
In a prepared statement Dynamite’s Nick Barrucci said, “Writer Brian Reed is blowing comics fans away with his work on New Avengers: Illuminati, Ms. Marvel and Red Sonja, so you can expect more of the same incredible action-packed storylines and intrigue from him on Mercenaries.”
There will be some cross promotion between the two industries as Pandemic will be hyping the 800 Comic Shop Locater Service, while Dynamite will pimp the upcoming Mercenaries 2: World in Flames video game.
